The picturesque and high conservation value thermal landscapes of the Valley of Geysers feature endothermal (heated by endogenous fluids) soils which support endangered and unique species. However, such soils have not been distinguished as a separate taxon within most classification systems. In this study, we described the soil morphology at macro-, meso- and micro-scales, chemistry, mineralogy and vegetation of these landscapes as they are affected by the steam-heated acid-sulfate waters. The studied catenary sequence from exothermal (non-heated) to endothermal soils was characterized by decreasing contents of soil organic carbon, sand fraction, essential nutrients (Ca, K, Mg, Mn and Si), increasing soil acidity, amounts of fine particle-size fractions and contents of trace elements (Al, As, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Pb, Ti and V) as well as the development of sodium-sulfate salinity, kaolinization and ferrugination. In phytocenoses supported by endothermal soils, species of order Rosales and Asparagales were overrepresented among obligate and facultative thermophytes respectively, and species of order Poales were underrepresented among facultative thermophytes in relation to the flora of the Valley of Geysers. Phytocenoses on the non-heated Andosols were enriched in Polypodiopsida species. The results of our comparative analysis of the thermally-induced variability in the soils and vegetation contribute to the general understanding of mineralogical, bio-abiotic and biological systems affected by steam-heated acid-sulfate waters. We hope that our findings will provide a basis for future transdisciplinary studies of the influence of steam-heated waters of a hot spring on the thermal landscapes.

At 124 patients who have rectum cancer made computer tomography of a abdominal cavity, retroperitoneal space and small pelvis with the purpose of definition of prevalence of a tumour. Was used computer tomograph "Somatom CRX", "Siemens". Remote metastasis are revealed at 26 patients, their most often localization--liver (45.8%). Are described CT-attributes of organs remote metastasis: hypodense spherical formation from 1.0 up to 4.0 CM in a diameter. Pathology changed lymph nodes were characterized by increase of a diameter more 1.5 CM, illegibility of contours, merge in a conglomerate. This changes have not specific character and also can be in case of hyperplasia of lymph nodes. At 14 patients is made puncture biopsy of focal formations under the CT-control. Diagnostic efficiency CT with puncture biopsy have made: accuracy--0.92, sensitivity--0.77, specificity--0.96. Is judged high efficiency of a method.

The article describes the design of the experimental prototypes of the lightened portable collapsible photoroentgenograph and mobile photoroentgenograph on the basis of the automobile with a higher cross country travel capacity, uAz-452-A, equipped with the chamber PK-110 (GDR). The test results showed that the above photoroentgenographs are convenient and effective for the prophylactic medical examination of the population in the not easily accessible regions.

X-ray and clinical features of tuberculosis combined with lingering pneumonia were studied in 110 patients of the 7th group of dispensary registration suffering from chronic diseases of the respiratory organs. Tuberculosis recurrences in this group of patients had a torpid course, specific changes were slowly reversed, noticeable fibrosis was formed on their site. Thorough x-ray tomographic investigation not only of the pneumonia zone but also of the zone of posttubercular changes was conducted at the onset and end of pneumonia therapy to exclude tuberculosis reactivation. Frequent exacerbations of chronic diseases of the respiratory organs including complications in the form of lingering pneumonia in patients with posttubercular changes can mask early stages of tuberculosis reactivation.

250 Candida guilliermondii strains resistant to the polyene antibiotics nystatin, levorin and amphotericin B were obtained using UV irradiation. When the mutant strains became resistant to one of the polyene antibiotics, their resistance to the other ones changed. Phenotypic analysis showed that the resistance of the strains to polyene antibiotics did not make them susceptible to a rise in osmotic pressure and to a change of the temperature of incubation. Some of the polyene-resistant strains were stained in a medium with methylene blue. Analysis of the sterol composition in the mutants by UV spectroscopy showed that the resistance to polyene antibiotics sometimes involved changes in the sterol composition. Two new UV spectrum types were recorded for the sterols of the mutant strains; they differed from the UV spectrum for the sterols of the parent sensitive strain.

RESUMEN

X-ray stereogrammetry is used to derive the geometry of optimum body section. Principles and methodology of a trial-and-error technique for X-ray stereogrammetric survey are analysed. Calculations of the optimum slice for one of the clinical situations are presented along with experimental results obtained with a computed tomograph.

Effect of amphotericin B and nistatin on ATPase activity of dog kidney nuclear membranes is studied in vivo and in vitro. Long-term intravenous injections of the antibiotics do not change the ATPase activity of kidney nuclear membranes. However, short-term injections of polyenic antibiotics have some effect on ATPase activity on nuclear membranes: amphotericin B, considerably activates the enzyme . In vitro incubation of isolated dog kidney nuclei with amphotericin and nistatin at concentrations of 1 and 10 mcg/ml does not affect the activity of nuclear membrane ATPase, while increased concentrations of polyenic antibiotics, (up to 200 mcg/ml) results in a slight inhibition of the enzyme activity. The role of the data obtained for solving molecular basis of the toxic effect of polyenic antibiotics.

Penetration of 14C-amphotericin AM-2 into the cells of the tissue culture of the human embryon kidneys was studied by means of light autoradiography after incubation with the antibiotic. Microscopic examination of the autographs of the cell slices revealed the presence of the radioactive label in the cytoplasm and nucleoplasm of the cells. The revealed intracellular localization of the label was evident of the antibiotic penetration into the cells.

Investigations conducted with participation of 30 examinees in whom the state of proteinic deficiency or protein fasting was provoked by different protein content in their diets a general regularity in the nature of passage of total nitrogen with urine, faces and summarily through other routes was educed and described mathematically. The endogenous excretion of total nitrogen with urine in young males was found to comprise 2.5 +/- 0.08, with feces--0.75 +/- 0.03 and summarily via other routes--0.59 +/- 0.36 g per day. The mentioned results correlated closely enough with corresponding figures in pertinent literature sources.
