RESUMEN
The effects of 15 widely used drugs on the production of IgE-antibodies and the development of anaphylactic sensitization of rat skin were studied. Some drugs were shown to be able to increasing antibody titres in the blood and prolonging skin sensitization.

Experiments conducted on mice immunized with sheep's erythrocytes proved that phenobarbital, even in toxic doses does not produce any immunodepressive effect. But when it is covalently bound by the diazo-method with a protein-carrier phenobarbital becomes a strong immunodepressant. Then, however, it does not affect the central nervous system, nor influence the immunodepressive activity of cyclophosphamide--an agent metabolically activated in the liver. Free phenobarbital mitigates the effect of cyclophosphamide on the immunological response in mice.

In the experiments on mice, immunized by mutton erythrocytes, the authors have studied the effect of phenobarbital, in the doses activating drug-metabolizing hepatic systems, on immunodepressive action of imurane, 6-mercaptopurine and cyclophosphane. It has been found that phenobarbital eliminates the immunodepression and reduces considerably the toxicity of the mentioned cytostatics. Under these conditions imurane and 6-mercaptopurine in certain doses render an immunostimulative instead of immunodepressive effect.

A conjugated phenobarbital-protein antigen has been synthetized. Immunization of rabbits with this antigen led to the appearance of antibodies specifically reacting with phenobarbital and some other barbiturates in the serum of their blood. Introduction of free phenobarbital to such animals does not produce any somniferous effect.
