RESUMEN

The expression of TLR8 in the placental tissue was studied in specimens from women of reproductive age with early- and late-onset preeclampsia (12 and 8 patients, respectively). The reference groups included 15 women: 10 with uneventful full-term pregnancy and 5 with preterm operative delivery on gestation weeks 28-33. The expression of TLR8 in placental structures was maximum in early-onset preeclampsia (p<0.01) characterized by the gravest clinical course, while the expression of TLR8 in late-onset preeclampsia was comparable with that in full-term pregnancy. This significant increase of TLR8 expression in placental tissue seemed to reflect activation of the key proinflammatory factors of congenital immunity and induction of the systemic inflammatory response. Manifest differences in the expression of TLR8 in late- and early-onset preeclampsia confirmed the hypothesis on different variants of this condition.

RESUMEN

The late outcomes of primary and reconstructive jejunogastroplasty for motor and evacuatory dysfunctions of the graft and the gastrointestinal tract as whole were studied. Based of X-ray and radioisotopic findings, the paper shows the procedure used to form an artificial stomach from the large intestinal loop to obtain an invaginational valve at the site of jejunoduodenal atastomosis to be beneficial. This procedure makes it possible to recover the evacuatory function of the stomach removed, to prevent a number of postgastrectomic and postresectional disorders in the late postoperative period. Dynamic hepatobiliary scintigraphy was shown to be effective in examining the functional outcomes of gastric surgery and in diagnosing suspected reflux.

RESUMEN

Post-gastrectomy and post-resection conditions are occurring more frequently due to the growing number of radical operations carried out for stomach cancer. The available procedures for restoring the natural continuity of the gastrointestinal tract are either too sophisticated or ineffective. A new technique of primary jejunogastroplasty following subtotal distal resection of the stomach is suggested. Application of newly-devised esophagoen-terostomy and enteroduodenostomy makes possible storage and passage of chyme into the duodenum and prevents refluxesophagitis and reflux-jejunitis from developing. A 3 month-3 year follow-up of 35 surgical patients showed that a number of grave post-gastrectomy complications could be avoided if the procedure had been used.

RESUMEN

A case of group infection with tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) in Bikin, Khabarovsk Territory is reviewed. The disease developed as a result of drinking raw cow milk, bought from one owner, and eating sour-milk products made of that milk. 5 persons from 3 families were ill, in three cases the outcome was lethal. Data of clinical, epidemiological, viral and serological examinations confirm the diagnosis of TBE. Various antibodies to TBE virus have been determined in the blood of cows. The presence of complement-fixing antibodies may indicate fresh infection. The characteristics of TBE viral strain, isolated from the brain of dead Z. N. F. is presented on white mice. The data obtained confirm the previous suggestion on possible transmission of TBE virus with cow milk.

RESUMEN

The sea urchin embryos were cooled to -196 degrees by two-step freezing with the use of 1-1.5 M dimethyl sulfoxide as a cryoprotectant. The embryos were equilibrated with the cryoprotectant for 20-30 min at 0 +/- 2 degrees. At -7 degrees ice crystallization was induced and the embryos were cooled to -38-42 degrees at a rate of 6-8 degrees /min. The embryos were then transferred into liquid nitrogen. The embryos were thawed in a water bath at 19 degrees. No less than 90% of the embryos frozen at the stages of blastula, gastrula, or pluteus were capable of recovery and normal development. The length of cryopreservation did not affect the survival of the embryos.

RESUMEN

Concentrations of K, P and Na were determined in skeletal and cardiac muscle cells of rat embryos. High K and P levels--133 and 166 mmole/kg wet weight, resp.,--were found in skeletal muscles of 13 day old embryos, the concentration of Na in these cells being 81 mmole/kg w. w. On the 18th day of development, K and P in skeletal muscle cells decreased down to 79 and 118 mmole/kg w. w., resp., while the concentration of Na increased to 165 mmole/kg w. w. In 19 day old embryos, the concentrations of K and P increased, although they did not reach the level typical of skeletal muscles of adult rats. The concentrations of K and P in cardiac muscle cells of 13 day embryos were found equal to 100 and 108 mmole/kg w. w., resp., on the 19th day of development these concentrations reached the level typical of the cardiac muscle cells of adult rats.

RESUMEN

The ultrastructure of rat skeletal and cardiac muscles during embryogenesis was studied. Uninucleated skeletal muscle myoblasts of 13 day old embryos contain no myofibrils or discrete sarcomers, although intermediate filaments (8-13 nm) are observed. In cardiomyocytes of this stage, a formation of myofibrils from thick (15-16 nm) and thin (5-7 nm) filaments takes place. In 18-19 day old embryos, the ultrastructure of myofibrillar material is similar in skeletal and cardiac muscle cells. In cardiac muscle of 19 day old embryos, mitochondria with unusual structure were discovered: their membranes form invaginations filled up with glycogen.

RESUMEN

The etiology of an influenza outbreak which had occurred in Khabarovsk since 14 November, 1977 was elucidated. The largest number of cases was recorded among children and adolescents (under 22 years of age). Virological studies during the epidemic yielded 90 strains of influenza virus which were found to be antigenically quite close to A1 virus (HINI) which had circulated in this country in 1947-1956. Influenza viruses could be isolated from subjects under 22. Serological tests (H1, CFT) with paired sera from influenza patients and determinations of IgM showed A1 virus (HINI) to circulate more intensively among subjects under 22 years. A correlation between the presence of humoral immunity in subject over 22 and low incidence of influenza in these population are groups was observed.
