RESUMEN

Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from the medicinal plants has been considered as a remarkable approach of several therapeutic innovations and successful drug delivery. Silver nanoparticles were biosynthesized with Salvia miltiorrhiza, Chinese medicinal herb and assessed for its anticarcinogenic property. Synthesis of AgNPs was characterized by several studies such as UV-absorbance and it shows peak values in the range of 425-445 nm. The sizes of the nanoparticles are confirmed by dynamic light scattering analysis and it shows 100 nm. Furthermore, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) was to confirm the shape and Ag particles are present in the synthesized materials. FTIR analysis to find out the active biomolecules located in the surface of the synthesized particles. This AgNPs from S. miltiorrhiza inhibits the growth of Bacillus subtillis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumonia. Furthermore, the anticancer potential of AgNPs is examined in prostate adenocarcinoma (LNCaP) cell lines. In this study, we found the AgNPs effectively induces cytotoxicity, ROS and apoptosis by modulation of intrinsic apoptoic Bcl2, Bclxl, Bax and Caspase 3 protein expressions in LNCap cell lines. Based on the study, synthesis of AgNPs from S. miltiorrhiza shows eco-friendly and it exhibits antimicrobial and anticarcinogenic effects.

BACKGROUND: Smokeless tobacco is a possible risk factor for developing pancreatic adenocarcinoma. This systematic review addressed the question: Is there an association between smokeless tobacco use and pancreatic adenocarcinoma diagnosis? METHODS: Five electronic databases, grey literature, and citations of relevant articles were searched to identify studies. Six researchers double-reviewed records for inclusion in the review. The information extracted from these studies was selected using criteria outlined in the Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale for observational studies. A qualitative synthesis of included studies was performed. RESULTS: The search of electronic databases resulted in a total of 1747 citations. Eleven studies met the inclusion criteria for this review, including three cohort studies, seven case control studies and one study that pooled data from multiple case-control studies. Studies were heterogeneous in their assessment of exposure intensity and ascertainment of outcomes. Quality of the studies varied. Existing investigations of the association of interest appear to exhibit several types of biases including selection bias, information bias and bias in the analysis. CONCLUSION: The association between smokeless tobacco use and pancreatic adenocarcinoma is inconclusive. More definitive conclusions regarding this relationship await the results of more methodologically rigorous epidemiologic studies.

RESUMEN

Cognitive rehabilitation (CR) is a specialized treatment procedure to develop the cognition affected by internal or external injury to the brain. The process of cognitive rehabilitation involves assessment of cognitive functions, goal setting, and applying appropriate cognitive exercises to improve the cognitive function. There are two types of CR: Restorative rehabilitation and Compensatory rehabilitation. The CR therapist will make a comprehensive assessment of the impairment and design appropriate cognitive exercises. Studies on the efficacy of CR for brain damage have shown two extremes; one opinion was CR has a positive effect on the patients cognitive functioning and the other opinion was that CR has no effect on the cognitive functioning. This case study examines the dynamics and relevance of CR in reversible and progressive brain injury. It was observed that in reversible condition CR improves cognition and thereby functional ability. In progressive conditions like Alzheimer's disease (AD), CR improves the cognition marginally and thereby improves functional ability and also reduces Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms in Dementia (BPSD).
