Rubella diagnostic agents for hemagglutination inhibition (HI) and enzyme immunoassay (EIA) based on rubella virus-like particles (RVLP) have been developed. Noninfectious RVLPs containing three structural E1, E2, and C proteins were expressed in transfected CHO24S cell culture. HI titer in culture medium was 1:256. Tween-80 treatment and ether increased HI titer 4-6-fold and rendered the antigen higher stability. Immunogenic properties of RVLPs were similar to the native rubella virus in HI test with international reference human rubella serum and sera from convalescents after rubella. Serum of mice immunized with RVLP reacted similarly with RVLP antigens and native virus. Antigen for EIA from RVLP was prepared by concentrating RVLP from culture fluid and partial purification by ultracentrifugation. The results of human sera testing by HI and EIA with RVLP and native virus antigens coincided. RVLP are identical to antigenic structure of the virus, are stable and easily purified, and can therefore be used for commercial production of HI and EIA antigens.

On the basis of study of remote results of application of wire apparatus, designed at KhNIIOT, for immobilization after correcting osteotomies in the area of knee joint due to varus-valgus deformation (114 cases, including 94 on crus, 14 on thigh, 6 on crus and thigh at the same time) there have been revealed essential advantages of this fixation method. It ensures possibility of additional postoperative correction, rated rigidity of fixation (depending on the stage of consolidation), strength of fixation, comfort for a patient and nursing. Consolidation has been achieved in all cases. Failure of rods in 6 cases (of 461 detected) and 5 cases of inflammation of soft tissues (skin bedsores-type).

The authors put forward a program of prevention of dysplastic arthrosis which is presented in graphic form with textual description. It has been worked out on the basis of the formerly elaborated conceptual model "Dysplasia of the joint-dysplastic arthrosis" and it is a complex of general medical prophylactic measures oriented towards the elimination of mutagenous environmental factors, i.e. towards prevention of morbidity and towards the treatment-and-rehabilitation orthopaedic measures directed at reduction of the risk of development of dysplastic arthrosis in the conditions of dysplastic lesion of the joint (prevention of the disease). The conditions necessary for carrying out this program are supposed to be: a diagnostic algorithm providing for revealing dysplastic lesions already at the preclinical stage; thorough quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the dysplastic process providing for planning of correct surgical interventions; prognostic evaluations presuming a probability of evolution of the dysplastic process and its outcome; and a system of stage-by-stage diagnostic and treatment-and-rehabilitation measures providing for achievement of the effect expected in each particular case. Three groups of surgical interventions have been pointed out: prophylactic, which are performed on the dysplastic joint in case of absence of dystrophic changes; therapeutic, which are performed in case of presence of reversible dystrophic changes (e.g. chondromalation at stages I and II); and palliative, which only result in temporary stabilization of the arthrosis process, i.e. leading to improvement.

The constants of association and the energy of interaction between transcortin and cortisol, the binding ability and other characteristics of transcortin have been studied in the embryos, sexually immature and mature young and old females, females on the 14th and 21st days of pregnancy, immature and mature males. The constant of association in all the groups amounted to ca. 10(8) and the energy of interaction ca. 10 Cal/mole. The embryos and immature rats of both sexes are characterized by relatively low levels of the binding ability of transcortin. During the sexual maturation, the level of transcortin increased--insignificantly in males and markedly in females. The level of transcortin in the latter remained almost invariable during pregnancy and senescence. By the electrophoretic and sedimentation properties transcortin was the same in different groups. The high level of transcortin during pregnancy corresponded to the high level of hormones bound by transcortin, the level of these hormones in the embryos being much lower than in the mother.
