RESUMEN

Medicine and engineering seemed to be until now two so different field that have nothing in common. By the present, we have tried to show, how to make your work easier and perform, being helped by an application named OPTILINK, which combine so successfully those two fields. Also, in this paper work we have presented the way this application work and all the apparatus you need for. OPTILINK means working directly with an application engineer who not only understand your needs, but can also help you specify affordable opto-mechanical components to meet those needs.

RESUMEN

UNLABELLED: The primary objective of this prospective study was to evaluate the efficacy of lowering intraocular pressure, safety and tolerability of Brinzolamide 1% ophthalmic suspension as primary or adjunctive therapy in hypertensive glaucomas. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Brinzolamide 1% was administrated in monotherapy or in combination for 26 patients suffering from hypertensive glaucomas. The patients were divided in two groups: group I--included 10 patients (20 eyes) with primary open-angle glaucoma in which suspension Brinzolamide was administrated in monotherapy, and, group II--(16 patients with 30 eyes) with diverse forms of hypertensive glaucomas, that the Brinzolamide was administrated in adjunctive therapy, after the failure of another forms of medication, especially, beta-blockers. Intraocular pressure was assessed at 8, 10 AM, and 6 PM in first day, then daily at 8 AM, 7 days, and finally, weekly, at 8 AM all the period. Dilated fundoscopy, automated perimetry, visual acuity, were performed in addition to hematology, blood chemistry, urinalysis testing and ocular events. RESULTS: The intraocular pressure-lowering observed on treatment was as follows: 3.5 mmHg to 4.8 mmHg (13.5% to 18.2%) in patients which Brinzolamide 1% dosed two times a day, and, 4.2 to 5.2 mmHg (17.8 to 20.9%) after administration Brinzolamide three times a day. The association of Brinzolamide with another therapy induces in an additive ocular hypotensive effect, which was stable in the whole period of the study. The ocular and general tolerance was significantly improved for another hypotensive drugs and another carbonic anhydrase inhibitors topically active. This fact allows a long treatment period.

RESUMEN

UNLABELLED: The purpose of the paper consists to evaluate the vascular component that it takes part to ethiopatogenie of certain forms of primary open angle glaucomas, as well as to suggest a specific treatment. MATERIAL AND METHOD: 14 patients (28 eyes) with primary open angle glaucomas with average of 64 years were investigated by Color Doppler Imaging. All patients present deteriorations papilo-perimetric or/and visual acuity, in spite of normalized pressure by medical or surgical treatment. RESULTS: The calculus of the velocimetric indices allowed us to measure the vascular resistance index that is increased at 6 patients in ophthalmic circulation, 4 patients in central retinal artery and 2 patients in whole shaft carotid-ophthalmic. We are found a correlation between papilo-perimetric deteriorations and the value of the vascular resistance index, too. Giving vasodilatative drugs that grow the ocular blood flow by improving the microcirculation at the level of the optic nerve's head, such as calcium channel blockers, could benefit effects for this type of patients. CONCLUSIONS: Orbitar Color Doppler Imaging allows to evaluate the vascular lesions that have a negative influence in the evolution of primary open angle glaucomas, and, therefore, suggesting a specific treatment.

RESUMEN

Technological advances in the manufacture of the progressive lenses have made an effective and comfortable alternative in presbyopic correction. Nevertheless the small percentage of those patients are knowing and wearing them. The paper shown our clinical experience about prescribe Varilux progressive lenses at the 40 presbyopic patients. At the same time we try demonstrate the visual problems due that lenses, the difficult adaptation to this kind of spectacles and the degree of satisfaction of the subjects.

RESUMEN

The physiopathologic specifics of the strabismic amblyopia which certify its origin in the disorders of neuronal and disbinocular development are discussed. The changes are produced at the level of systems situated in development during the trouble. The sensorial function is last obtained on the phylogenesis and is first affected as well as the central retina which is developed after the peripheral retina. It's about one deficiency of the foveal function that determine the functional and anatomical troubles in the cortex. The functional changes and after the organic changes are the result of the autoregulation and after reorganisation of the system due the inadequate stimulation of the deviated eye and competitive impulses.

RESUMEN

The syndrome of postural deficiency represents an alteration of tonic and postural equilibrium, related to the affectation of the reception, transmission and integration of proprioceptive and visual information. The physiological, semiological and therapeutical basis of the syndrome of postural deficiency are discussed. In order to prescribe a postural therapeutical prism, the ophthalmologist may choose among two methods with common physiological base. The former, proposed by the Paris School, tries to use the prism treatment in order to obtain a re-equilibrating hypertonia: the latter, used by the Lisbon School, tries to create initially an equilibrating relaxation and, since it is much easier to use during the ophthalmological consultation and faster is preferred by most authors.

RESUMEN

The analysis of 123 cases with pigmentary retinopathy shows in 26 cases hereditary transmission with the existence of several affected members within the same family (21.2%). The isolated cases represented 78.8% of the total number. From the 26 familial cases 24 (19.5% from the total) presented a recessive autosomal transmission, 1 case presented a dominant autosomal transmission (3.84%), and 1 case presented a recessive sex-related transmission (3.84%). The research of the family tree is necessary in all the cases with pigmentary retinopathy, in order to find the heterozigotes which carry the pathological gene and to efficiently make the profilaxy of the disease.

RESUMEN

Seven cases of tardive congenital glaucoma determined by a high insertion of the iris are analyzed. Biomicroscopy revealed in all cases irian stromal atrophy and the complete or incomplete, total or partial insertion of the iris at the level of trabeculum was gonioscopically observed. With respect to the reducing of trabecular space exposed to aqueous humour, tension increase appeared between 11 and 20 years old at three patients, between 21 and 30 years old at three patients and at 34 years old at one patient. The authors consider the age of 35 to be an age limit in tardive congenital glaucoma. The transmission was dominant with variable expressivity. The systematic examination of family members allowed the discovering of other cases of tardive congenital glaucoma, which were unknown or known as open-angle glaucoma cases. The associations between tardive congenital glaucoma and myopia delayed the setting of diagnosis which lead to a more serious evolution. In the therapy with myotics was not sufficient, protected filtering interventions and especially trepanotrabeculectomy were recommended.

RESUMEN

The observation of an 11-years-old child is presented. He had bilateral congenital palpebral ptosis and multiple facial malformations, like maxillary and mandibular hypoplasia, dental malpositions, ogival palace, anomalies of the external ear, lesions determined by a latero-facial dechyscence (perforation 6, 7, 8). The affection was produced by a embryogenesis disturbance following the existence of two pathological genes. Their actions were overlapped during the 7--8 and 11 weeks of embryonic life, which caused damages in the maxillary and mandibular bones suture, which allow the formation of the inferior and middle stage of the face.

RESUMEN

66-year-old female patient presents palpebral bilateral ptosis and external ophthalmoplegia with a progressive evolution. The clinical aspects are completed with the affectation of the sensitive and motor trigemen, with the masseter atrophy and bilateral trophic keratitis. The affectation of the facial and acoustic nerves was associated with bilateral perception surditate. The hereditary transmission was dominant, with incomplete penetration. The neurogenic pathogeny was sustained on the basis of the association of neurological multilesions with III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII nerves, with progressive extension.

RESUMEN

Sixteen years old patient presents bilateral tuberculous sclerokeratitis and papulonecrotic cutaneous tuberculids-type acnitis. The patient is a bearer of a latent tuberculous focere following a prolonged contact with a cavitar bacillary. The positive diagnosis was much facilitated by the association with acneiform dermic tuberculids at face, intense and positive local reaction to PPD and a favourable therapeutic response to tuberculostatics. The particularity of the case consists in a concomitant, cutaneous and ocular affection since the first episode, the affection evolving as a typical bilateral tuberculous sclerokeratitis.

RESUMEN

The paper presents seven cases of corneo-conjunctival lesions produced by anti-aggressional spray. The corneal lesions were superficial and do not exceed in depth the Bowman membrane. Besides the ocular lesions, the patients presented irritative cough and general manifestations represented by a transient motor deficit, which produced the decrease of the defense capabilities during 15-30 minutes. The ocular lesions had a favourable evolution, excepting two cases with more severe evolution.
