RESUMEN

In France, during the last decades preceding the 1990s, 100,000 to 400,000 blood recipients may have been infected by hepatitis C. Since 1990, thanks to advances in transfusion safety, the risk of hepatitis C contamination has become extremely low. Given the natural history of the disease, it can be a long time unnoticed. Thus, even today, a significant part of infected individuals do not know their serological status. Through several periods and several campaigns, we present the various means used for the detection of post-transfusion hepatitis C at the Caen University Hospital. These methods have been introduced as a result of legislation or through arrangements made by the institution. They were made possible through the action of haemovigilance system, monitoring adverse reactions related to blood products and of blood products traceability which helps to realise special researches in case of suspected transfused blood products. In addition to posttransfusion hepatitis C detection, we are discussing available victim ways to be indemnified for the injury suffered by contamination by hepatitis C.

RESUMEN

Superwarfarin exposure is a growing health problem, described in many countries. The authors report a case of suspicious chlorophacinone poisoning with a problematic diagnosis. They review the literature and discuss particularities of anticoagulant rodenticide intoxication, as well as the apparent contradiction between anticoagulant intoxication and lethal thrombosis.

RESUMEN

Carotid artery (CA) dissection and/or thrombosis may occur in a number of medical and forensic relevant situations. However, post traumatic carotid artery dissection is considered rare, and often underestimated due to possible delayed presentation. We describe two cases of carotid artery dissection following strangulation with delayed symptoms as well as discuss medical diagnostic problems and their forensic implications.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this work was to study the reporting of resected colonic carcinomas and to compare them with Consensus Guidelines published in January 1998. METHODS: The study included 535 colonic carcinomas collected in 8 French registries in 1995, and chosen by drawing lots. For each report, the presence of the information requested by the Guidelines was looked for. Three synthetic variables were built: 2 scores and one qualitative at 2 classes. The influence of patients, tumour and health care system's characteristics was analysed on the 3 dependent variables. RESULTS: Some important variations were observed for information's percents in reporting. In monovariate analysis, scores were significantly influenced by cancer's sub-location, area of patient's residence, surgical center, type of laboratories and pathologist case volume. In multivariate analysis, significant heterogeneity in practices remained between geographical areas. Types of laboratories and pathologist case volume affected differently dependent variables. CONCLUSION: This study shows the necessity to assess the practices before consensus because of the impact of pathological forms in therapeutic decisions and variations observed.
