RESUMEN

Neglect is one of the most frequently reported forms of violence against children and adolescents, although it has rarely been explored in national studies. In this light, the present study aimed to analyze the personal social network of families involved in negligence against children and adolescents. This work takes a qualitative approach, anchored in the Paradigm of Complexity, conducted with twenty families involved in negligence against children and adolescents in a municipality in the countryside of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Data collection took place through minimal maps of the personal social network and semi-structured interviews in January 2021. The networks were limited, with little to no interaction among the different services and sectors, and were predominantly homogeneous. Because they have many weakened ties, they are relatively unsupportive, pointing out difficulties in access to work, education, and health. Due to the characteristics of the network, the complexity of the phenomenon of neglect was identified, in which elements condition and perpetuate experiences of absence and fragility. Interprofessional and intersectoral views and actions are requested and recommended.

PURPOSE: To assess anterior, posterior, and total corneal astigmatism in a large sample of Brazilian patients. METHODS: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, all patients whose corneas were imaged with the Galilei G6 (Ziemer Ophthalmology) between January 2017 and February 2019 at HOPE Eye Hospital, in Recife, Brazil, were eligible to participate. Anterior, posterior, and total corneal astigmatism values were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: The study included 3,253 eyes of 1,919 patients. The mean magnitude of the anterior, posterior, and total corneal astigmatism was 1.50 ± 1.11, 0.34 ± 0.15, and 1.29 ± 0.98 diopters (D), respectively. Corneal astigmatism was greater than 0.50 D in the anterior cornea of 86.3% of eyes (2,807 eyes) and in the posterior cornea of 13.2% of eyes (429 eyes). Vertical alignment of the steepest corneal meridian was observed in the anterior cornea of 74.5% of eyes (2,423 eyes) and in the posterior cornea of 93.1% of eyes (3,029 eyes). The correlation between the astigmatism magnitude of the anterior and posterior cornea was strong when the steep anterior meridian was aligned vertically (r = 0.720; P < .001), and absent when it was aligned horizontally (r = 0.102; P = .036). CONCLUSIONS: Corneal astigmatism values in the Brazilian population were similar to those found in other ethnicities, suggesting that toric calculators, nomograms, coefficients of adjustment, and formulas that were developed based on astigmatism values of other populations may be used in Brazilian patients with comparable accuracy. RESUMEN

[Co-Al-Cl] layered double hydroxide (LDH) obtained by co-precipitation at constant pH 8 presented a single phase in a hexagonal unit cell parameters similar to the hydrotalcite (JCPDS 14-191) belonging to the rhombohedral crystal system and space group R (-3)m . The adsorption kinetics of 2,4-D onto [Co-Al-Cl] LDH was better described by the Pseudo Second-Order (best adjust R2 = 0.9998 for 60 mg L-1 2,4-D adsorption). Intra-particle diffusion model was not the sole rate-controlling factor, indicating the adsorption of 2,4-D by the [Co-Al-Cl] LDH is a complex process for the experimental conditions performed, involving both boundary layer and intra-particle diffusion. The adsorption isotherm adjusted better to the Freundlich model (R2 = 0.9845) and the ΔH° value of - 51.18 kJ mol-1 indicated the predominance of the physical adsorption. The FT-IR spectrum of LDH after adsorption presented 2,4-D bands together with those of LDH and XRD showed an increase in the interlamellar distance (d 003) due to the intercalation of 2,4-D in the interlayer structure of the [Co-Al-Cl] LDH, corroborating inter and intra-particle adsorption data. Thus, [Co-Al-Cl] LDH, commonly used as electrodes in supercapacitors, can be effectively used as an adsorbent for the removal of 2,4-D from contaminated waters.

RESUMEN

AIM: The aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy of the self-reported measure of adherence and the relation between adherence to warfarin use, demographic and clinical variables, and the satisfaction with the treatment in patients affected by stroke. METHODS: This is a correlational, quantitative, and cross-sectional study, carried out in the outpatient clinics of a public university hospital from October 2017 to April 2018. Sociodemographic and clinical data were collected through interviews and hospital charts, as well as by applying the Measurement of Treatment Adherence (MTA) and the Duke Anticoagulation Satisfaction Scale, in their Brazilian versions. Results of the international normalized ratio (INR) were collected. Measurements of accuracy of the MTA scale were calculated in relation to the INR classification. RESULTS: Of 99 patients (55.6% male with a mean age of 58.6 years), 57.6% presented with therapeutic INR values and 75.8% of the patients were adherent to the oral anticoagulant therapy according to the MTA. The accuracy analysis of the measurement provided by the MTA scale in relation to the INR classification showed a sensitivity of 77.2% and a specificity of 26.2%. The patients' satisfaction with the treatment was high. The Duke Anticoagulation Satisfaction Scale had an average total score of 46.4, with the dimension impact in the field having the highest score (20.3). CONCLUSION: Stroke patients were adherent and satisfied with the oral anticoagulant therapy. The MTA had good sensitivity and poor specificity. Sociodemographic and clinical characteristics identified were not associated with adherence and satisfaction with treatment.
