RESUMEN
The authors review the main problems occurring in introduction of computer-aided technology of data collection, processing and storage at the polyclinics, scientific-counselling departments of the medical institutes and centers, taking into account the level of the development of Soviet computers and documentation science. The developing engineers and medical personnel are rather far from being fully aware of the whole complex of the problems they confront. This results in low efficacy of the use of the elaborated automated systems, giving rise to factors interfering with successful operation of the systems. The authors suggest an approach to the design of the automated medical systems. N. Bakulev Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery of the USSR AMS.

The ECG data on 111 patients aged 2-61 years with idiopathic hypertrophic subaortal stenosis are provided. Of these, 18 patients were examined over time (during 1 to 6 years). The ECG data were considered depending on the clinical disease progress, the patients' age, and the intracardiac and echocardiographic findings.

Fifty-eight patients with idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis were examined in dynamics. In 25 of them routine general clinical methods of diagnosis were supplemented by echocardiography. In 34 patients the diagnosis was verified in examination by means of intracardiac methods. The authors demonstrated that idiopathic hypertrophic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis may be diagnosed by means of routine clinical methods of examination. Besides identifying the type of the valvular disease, echocardiography gives an idea of the function of the mitral valve. The first results of the management of patients with idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis are shown. The possibility of conservative treatment with agents blocking beta-adrenergic receptors is noted.

On the basis of analysis of data on 36 patients with idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, 2 groups of patients were distinguished. In patients of group 1 the outlines of the cardiac shadow resembled those of the aortic type, but there was a bulging in the cranial part of the left ventricle due to its hypertrophy, particularly manifest in the prestenotic part of its outflow tract. In patients of group 2 the shape of the cardiac shadow was characterized by the straightening out of the left outline, i.e. by the absence of signs caused by a sharp hypertrophy of the left ventricular myocardium.

Clinical, ECG and X-ray data as well as catheterizational and angiographic data on 20 patients with idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis were analysed. The problems of medical and surgical treatment of the disease were discussed. The indications for surgical treatment were defined on the basis of the authors' surgical experience (5 operated on patients) and literature data.
