RESUMEN
The microbiological status and disinfecting effect of Vikopres zinc-oxide eugenol paste was investigated after the functional impression was taken. The examinees were persons with edentulous maxilla (n = 32). The silicon paste of similar viscosity applied in the same persons was used as the control. The samples for microbiological tests were taken immediately, 30 minutes later and 3 hours after the impression was made. Significantly less samples with positive bacteriological findings were found on Vikopres paste, compared to the control one.

The effect of gamaphos (0.6 mmol kg-1 im, 20 min before irradiation) was investigated upon the course and outcome of the surgical management of combined radiation-gunshot injury in pigs. The hypothesis was tested that the infliction of perforating gunshot injury (LD0/30 days) in pigs in the latent phase of the acute radiation injury (LD0/30 days) results in the increase of the lethal outcome. Gamaphos treatment prevented the lethal outcome. Besides, wound reepithelization and granular tissue vascularization in protected pigs was more intensive in comparison with the unprotected ones.

In 22 patients with alimentary toxoinfection caused by salmonella and other gram-negative bacteria, endotoxemia was proved in 8 (36%) patients. The causative agent of the disease was proved in 11 (50%) of cases. In 6 (54%) patients the causative agent were from salmonella species: S. enteritidis, S. typhimurioum, S. hadar and S. heidelberg. Endotoxemia and positive coprocultures, that is, hemocultures were found in two patients respectively. In two patients with positive coprocultures and hemocultures, endotoxemia was found as well as in two patients with unknown causative agent. In patients with alimentary toxoinfection caused by salmonella and other gram-negative bacteria, endotoxemia occurred relatively often. Early detection of endotoxemia is important for application of urgent therapeutic measures and procedures, especially in immunocompromised patients.

Bacterial flora of burn wound smears and hemocultures of 25 patients with burns have been followed up and analysed in the period of one year. Pseudomonas auruginosa have been most commonly isolated from burn wound smears, in 406 (5.6%) and Staphylococcus aureus, in 371 (47.14) samples. The most important hemoculture isolates has been Staphylococcus aureus found in 34 (57.6%) of samples. One multiresistant strain of Staphylococcus aureus represented 91% of all Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from hemocultures and 84% from burn wound smears. Serologic and pyocin typing of Pseudomonas auruginosa proved the presence of several epidemic strains.

Typing of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains is the necessary precondition for the study and control of intrahospital infection caused by this microorganism. Since O-serotype is considered to be the basic epidemiological marker we have studied presence and distribution of some O-serotypes of 235 Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains isolated from 131 patients. The following O-serotypes have been most frequently found: O11 (21%), O6 (18%) and O12 (16%). The combination of sero and pyocin typing proved the presence of epidemic strains at departments of burns and orthopedics.

The quality of human albumin preparations has been tested of 20 bottles of the Yugoslav and 8 bottles of foreign production. The criteria for quality evaluation have been based mainly on the standards of human albumin of the British pharmacopoeia. Of domestic preparations the best quality showed those obtained by application of chromatographic methods of albumin isolation. Although preliminary studies of a smaller number of samples are in question it is considered that the following measures should be undertaken: a) to issue the Yugoslav criteria for human albumin preparations for therapeutical application, b) to introduce chapters on human albumin into the Yugoslav pharmacopoeia, and, c) to bring regulations for production, putting on sale and therapeutical application of human albumin preparations.
