RESUMEN

Dominance of dangerous Agriotes species was detected with pheromone traps in the Transdanubian region of Hungary in the examined period. The trapped species showed the following rates: A. lineatus 71%, A. sputator 19/o, A. ustulatus 5%, A. obscurus 3% and A. rufipalpis 2%. The volumetric quadrate method was found to be the most suitable method for soil sampling, as it resembled the natural conditions best, with a digging gripper and forestry hole digger. Occurrence of larva populations was surveyed. Sample areas were previously identified with GPS. Soil temperature, density and water content of dug samples were measured. Density of weed species growing in sample areas was determined. R-value amounted to 0.9200 between the occurrence of wireworms in different soil profiles and soil temperature. 0.7650 R-value was calculated between the depth of occurrence (cm) and the number of wireworms. This fact demonstrates the seasonality of larva occurrence in different soil profiles. The experiments were carried out in different locations and at different times. On the basis of the measurements data show between population and soil density R-values of 0.8637, 0.8006, 0.6294. There was a close regression between population and soil moisture R-values were at 0.5129, 0.9185, 0.7354. Besides data maps show the relationship between soil density and the number of wireworms. This fact proves the local positions of pests. Soil moisture supports the relationship, but its dominance is eliminated by saturation under rainy weather conditions (2005). Weed spots are related to soil density, moisture and population. They all influence adults in looking for best egg-laying places, which contributes to offspring care resulting in later local occurrence. Precision plant control can be applied together with geo-positioning studies. The method enables us to save costs and reduce pesticide stress.

RESUMEN

Protein profiles of six Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae strains, five Erysipelothrix tonsillarum strains and three Erysipelothrix strains of uncertain taxonomic position were studied by sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyactylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). In a computerized comparison of the protein patterns of the strains, the level of similarity between the strains was determined. The SDS-PAGE protein bands were divided into 14 groups based on molecular weight. The relative distribution of proteins within these groups was used to characterize the strains. These distribution patterns were analysed by computing Pearson's correlation coefficient between strains, and by cluster analysis based on Euclidean distances and the unweighted pair-group method of arithmetic averages (UPGMA). The geometric mean of the similarities calculated by Pearson's correlation coefficient was 0.980 +/- 0.018 between the E. rhusiopathiae strains and 0.979 +/- 0.013 for E. tonsillarum strains. The value was 0.932 +/- 0.036 between the strains belonging to different species. However, a threshold value applicable for identification of a given strain to a species could not be established. Of the three strains of uncertain taxonomic position, the strains designated Rotzunge and Iszap 4 had a protein composition more similar to that of E. tonsillarum than to that of the E. rhusiopathiae type strain. The strain designated Pécs 56, which may be a member of a new species according to literature data, gave inconsistent results by the two methods used. The computerized evaluation method developed here is suitable for the comparison of the protein composition of the strains and for the construction of the protein similarity tree by cluster analysis.

RESUMEN

Differentiation of T-lymphocytes is regulated by thymopoietin, a 49 amino acid polypeptide chain. The site of immunological activity is in the 32-36 (Arg-Lys-Asp-Val-Tyr) fragment. This pentapeptide can be reduced to a tetrapeptide (RGH-0206: Arg-Lys-Asp-Val) and further to a tripeptide (RGH-0205: Arg-Lys-Asp) which still retains immunological activity. To prepare Phase I and II clinical trials preclinical toxicity studies were duly performed. Mice, rats and dogs tolerated a single 1000 mg/kg dose i.v. without any symptom. In a 14-day i.v. test on Lati:Han:WISTAR rats daily doses of 10,25, 62.5, 150, 400 and 1000 mg/kg of either test compound were tolerated without symptom or damage. In a 28-day i.v. toxicity test on Wobe:BEAGLE dogs given daily doses of 6, 20 and 60 mg/kg of either test compound, no adverse reaction occurred. The low toxicity of both RGH-0205 and RGH-0206 are probably attributable to their short half-life, as half-life of the pentapeptide fraction is less than 30 sec in humans. It was concluded that the planned clinical dose of 1 mg/kg i.v. was safe for both peptides for short-term administration.

RESUMEN

The concentration of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) was determined in vas deferens, prostate, epididymis, seminal vesicle and testicle of the adult rat. Among the organs examined, vas deferens was found to be the richest in GABA and the lowest concentration was measured in testicle. Although the GABA levels appear to be 10-50 times lower in the sex organs examined than in the brain tissue, even the low GABA contents are suggestive of a role of this amino acid in the reproductive organs of the male rat.

RESUMEN

In 29 cases of chronic renal failure 1325 peritoneal dialyses were performed between January 1, 1976 and April 31, 1978. The technique of peritoneal dialysis, the general lines of supervision and follow-up, the results and shortcomings of the procedure are discussed. Peritoneal dialysis is regarded as an alternative to haemodialysis in chronic renal failure. On ground of the favourable observations, organization of satellite PD services on a large scale, parallel with the expansion of other services (haemodialysis, renal transplantation), is advocated.

RESUMEN

Experiments on rats showed that thermal irradiation caused a more marked elevation of subcutaneous temperature at the area of the skin separated from the underlying tissues by a felt plate than at the skin area separated from the surrounding and underlying tissues and immediately sutured to its place or the area of the uninjured skin. The authors believe that the data obtained indicated that the blood flow played no significant role in leading the heat from the skin in the action of the radial heat on it. Of much greater significance is the capacity of the underlying tissues to lead off and to accumulate heat.
