RESUMEN

Intracranial Hodgkin's lymphoma (ICHL) in the HIV positive population is a rarely reported event with only three prior cases reported in the literature. In these prior reports, the outcome of the patients was uncertain or very poor. We report here the case of an HIV seropositive patient with an isolated intracranial recurrence of Hodgkin's Lymphoma (HL) who achieved long-term control of his cranial disease and continues to have a high performance status more than 3 years following treatment.

RESUMEN

Cacotheline has been employed successfully as a new qualitative and quantitative reagent for phenylhydrazine. The spot-test is performed at pH 4.5-5.5 with a limit of detection of 0.5 mug ml in the sample solution. The method can be extended to the colorimetric estimation and photometric titration of phenylhydrazine with cacotheline. Beer's law is obeyed over the range 0.1-2 mg.

RESUMEN

A simple method is described for the determination of some quinones with ammonium iron(II) sulphate, by titration potentiometrically or with cacotheline, Methylene Blue, Methylene Green, thionine, Toluidine Blue, Azure A, Azure C or Azure-2-eosin as redox indicators. The reverse titrations can be used for estimation of iron(II). Alternatively, excess of iron (II) can be added and the iron(III) produced determined colorimetrically with thiocyanate.

RESUMEN

The determination of iodide with potassium dichromate and sodium vanadate in 6-8M phosphoric acid medium by potentiometric or visual titration is described. Ferroin and barium diphenylamine sulphonate (BDAS) are used as the indicators in the visual titration with potassium dichromate and sodium vanadate respectively. Acetone is used to stabilize the iodonium ions liberated, in the visual titration. Iodide can also be determined with sodium vanadate in 2-4M sulphuric acid medium with BDAS as indicator in the presence of oxalic acid as catalyst and acetone to stabilize the liberated iodine cations. The visual procedures are applied for the determination of iodide in tincture of iodine. The formal potentials of the iodine/iodide couple in various phosphoric acid media are reported.

RESUMEN

A direct reductimetric method for the determination of peroxydisulphate, hydrogen peroxide, sodium perborate, nitrate and nitrite in fairly concentrated phosphoric acid medium with iron(II) has been developed, with both potentiometric and visual end-point detection. Cacotheline, Methylene Blue, thionine, Azure A, Azure B, Azure C, Toluidine Blue, new Methylene Blue, ferroin, N-phenylanthranilic acid, p-ethoxychrysoidine and barium diphenylaminesulphonate are used as indicators. The method is useful in the analysis of binary mixtures of peroxydisulphate and peroxide or perborate and in the estimation of the nitrate content of fertilizers.
