RESUMEN

The objective of the present study was to estimate the role of the heyvus training machine as a tool for enhancing the effectiveness of combined rehabilitation of the adolescent patients suffering from spastic diplegia cerebral paralysis. The mechanisms of action of this treatment on the clinical manifestations of compromised statics and voluntary movements have been elucidated.

RESUMEN

Fifteen patients out of 25 involved in this study were given eight 20-day courses of toning massage and a series of special physical exercises designed to strengthen the occlusor muscles of the hip, knee and ankle joints. A massage technique and special physical exercises have been developed that made it possible to significantly improve the static and dynamic functions in the children presenting with the atonic-astatic form of infantile cerebral paralysis. No appreciable changes in the locomotor function was documented in the control group consisting of 10 patients.

RESUMEN

Results of a study involving 12 adolescents presenting with the hyperkinetic form of childrens' cerebral paralysis are reported. The principal manifestation of the disease in these patients was the inability to perform coordinated movements because of muscular dystonia and hyperkinesia. The long-term course of special physical exercises and two courses of training with a Heyvus training apparatus resulted in the improvement of statodynamic functions compared with control patients.

RESUMEN

The functional state of agonists and antagonists involving in providing of supporting function of feet and walking in adolescences, aged 13-15 years, with cerebral palsy has been studied using electromyography and polymyography. The electromyographical examination showed infringements of reciprocal innervation and potentials of fasciculation on the curves received from resting muscles of symmetric extremities. Polymyographic curves revealed the elongation of latent time of muscle tension and full period of relaxation against a background of expressed amplitude decay of the dynamometer card. Results obtained are thought to facilitate the more effective implementation of different rehabilitative measures in the late residual disease stage.

RESUMEN

This paper reports results of clinical and rheoencephalographic examination of 40 middle-age women with cervical osteochondrosis and symptoms of insufficiency of vertebrobasiliar blood circulation. A system of methods for therapeutic physical training has beendeveloped to normalize hemodynamics in the basin of vertebral arteries. The system was tested on 20 patients during a year. It included special physical exercises, massage, and automobilization. The efficiency of therapeutic physical training was evaluated by rheoencephalography. The women involved in the testing reported a marked improvement of the health status. Their rheoencephalograms suggested diminishing of the asymmetry coefficient and beneficial effect of therapeutic physical training on the elastic properties of vertebral arteries. No such changes were documented in a control group of women with osteochondrosis.

RESUMEN

Results of clinical, electrophysiological and roentgenological examinations of 36 children with natal paralyses of the arms are analyzed. In two cases a postmortem verification was carried out. The data obtained suggest that natal damages to the humeral plexus structures and the spinal cord radicles underlie these paralyses. Only in individual cases characterized with a grave damage to the cervical division of the vertebral column spinal cord traumas may be responsible. The low-frequency activity of the affected muscles on an EMG is not yet a proof of a gross primary affection of the spinal cord, and cannot serve as a criterion for localizing the damage to the peripheral motor neuron. The bioelectrical activity changes should be interpreted with consideration of the complex of clinical symptoms.
