Background: Hypopharyngeal cancer (HC) comprises less than 5% of all malignant tumors in the head and neck. They often present at an advanced stage, thereby resulting in high mortalities. We aimed to report the epidemiology of HC globally, regionally, and nationally by age, sex, and socioeconomic status in 2020 and its projection to 2040. Methods: Data on HC incidence and mortality were extracted from the GLOBOCAN 2020. Age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR), age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR), and mortality-to-incidence ratios (MIRs) were calculated. We used bivariate correlation test, presenting results through Pearson's correlation coefficient (r) to investigate the correlation between the metrics, human development index (HDI), and current healthcare expenditure (CHE) as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) (CHE/GDP). Results: In 2020, there were 84254 new HC cases globally (ASIR: 0.91 per 100000). Moreover, HC resulted in 38599 mortalities in 2020 (ASMR: 0.41). Furthermore, the global MIR of HC was 0.45. The ASIR and ASMR of HC were higher in men than women. Also, HDI demonstrated weak significant correlations with HC ASIR (r= 0.249, p<0.01), ASMR (r= 0.185, p<0.05), and MIR (r= 0.347, p<0.001). Moreover, a weak significant correlation was also observed between CHE/GDP and MIR (r= 0.279, p<0.001). The number of new HC cases and mortalities were estimated to increase by 50% and 55% in 2040, respectively. Conclusion: HC is a relatively rare cancer but with a substantial sex and geographic divide in distribution. Key priorities should thus include establishing high-quality cancer registries worldwide.

This study aimed to assess the risk factors and clinical-epidemiological patterns of acute poisoning among elderly individuals to guide prevention strategies. The epidemiological, clinical data, manner and cause of poisoning, and outcome of the registered elder cases (≥ 60 years old) in the clinical toxicology department of Imam Reza Hospital of Mashhad University of Medical Silences (CTD-IRH-MUMS) were investigated for nine months. The sex and age distribution of the patients were compared with the general population of Khorasan-Razavi using direct standardization. Among the 3064 cases registered at the hospital, 124 elderly patients were included in the study. The majority (71.8%) were male, with a mean age of 69.47. Male gender was found to be a significant risk factor for poisoning among elderly individuals compared to the general population (OR = 2.62) (1.55-4.42) (p-value < 0.001), however, it was not significant for age. Substance dependency, particularly on opiates, was common among the patients (56.5%), with a higher prevalence in males. Substance overdose (35.4%) and suicide (23.3%) were the most common methods of poisoning, with varying frequencies between genders (p-value = 0.002). Male gender was identified as a risk factor for opiate intoxication (OR = 4.68, CI = 1.70-11.83, p-value < 0.05) but not for suicide attempts. The average hospital stay duration was similar between male and female patients. The mean length of hospital stay was 3.53 ± 4.02 days (median = 3.0, range = 0.5-26 days) and was similar in both sexes. In conclusion, male gender and opiate dependency were highlighted as key factors in the poisoning of elderly individuals. These findings emphasize the importance of addressing these factors in preventive measures.

Controlling gas admission by regulating pore accessibility in porous materials has been a topic of extensive research. Recently, the electric field (E-field) has emerged as an external stimulus to alter the adsorption behavior of some microporous adsorbents. However, the mechanism behind this phenomenon is not yet fully understood. Here, we demonstrate the crucial role of the trapdoor cations of zeolite molecular sieves in E-field-regulated gas adsorption. The E-field activation caused framework expansion and cation deviation, significantly reducing the energy barrier for gas molecules passing through the pore aperture gated by the trapdoor cation. This led to an increase in the N2 adsorption capacity of ZSM-25 and a 60% improvement in N2/CH4 selectivity in the quest for nitrogen rejection for natural gas processing. By combining experimental and computational approaches, we elucidated the influence of E-field activation as a concurrent effect of the reduced heat of adsorption caused by framework expansion and the decrease in the energy barrier resulting from promoted cation oscillation. These findings pave the way for the material design of E-field-regulated adsorption and its application in molecular separation.

BACKGROUND: Gated SPECT is an established technique for assessment of left ventricular function in cardiovascular disease patients. However, there is little information about the influence of diabetes mellitus on gated SPECT parameters. This study was established to assess gated SPECT parameters in Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and non-diabetes mellitus (non-DM) patients with normal Myocardial Perfusion Imaging (MPI). METHODS: In this analytical cross-sectional study, 314 patients (157 DM, 157 non-DM) with normal MPI were enrolled. Prevalence of risk factors for CAD like hypertension (HTN), and dyslipidemia were found to be significantly higher (p <0.01) in DM patients compared to non-DM. RESULTS: No statistically significant difference was observed among the TID, ESV, EDV, PFR, TTPF, and Wall Thickness (WT) parameters between DM and non-DM patients. Wall motion (Wm) in DM patients was significantly higher compared to non-DM patients. (3.9 ± 0.51 vs. 2.69 ± 0.48 for DM and non-DM patients, respectively, p-value:0.01). Also, there was no significant difference in Wm in the two groups with and without HTN. This shows the independent effect of DM on the Wm. CONCLUSION: This study believes that the Wm parameter should be noted for the early diagnosis or prevention of heart disease in DM patients. These findings can indicate the gradual changes in the movements of the left ventricle and the beginning of the progression of diabetic cardiomyopathy.

Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is a rare malignancy affecting the lymphatic system. Our study examined the incidence rates of adult HL based on sex, race/ethnicity, age, and histological subgroups in the United States (US) from 2000 to 2020. Data for this study were extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results 22 database. HL patients were identified utilizing the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology version 3 and categorized as classical HL, lymphocyte-rich/mixed cell/lymphocyte depleted, nodular sclerosis, classical HL, not otherwise specified, and nodular lymphocyte-predominant HL. The study reported average annual percent change (AAPC). All estimates were presented as counts and age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs) per 100,000 individuals. Between 2000 and 2019, a total of 70,924 cases of HL were reported in the US. Classical HL was the predominant subtype (94.27%), and most incident cases were among non-Hispanic Whites (66.92%) and those aged 20-29 years (24.86%). The ASIR per 100,000 population was 3.83 for men and 2.92 for women. Both sexes showed declines in the AAPCs between 2000 and 2019 (- 0.64% [- 0.99, - 0.28] and - 0.40% [- 0.77, - 0.03] for men and women, respectively). There was a significant decrease in ASIRs after COVID-19 among both sexes (percent change: - 7.49% [- 11.58, - 3.40]). Throughout all age groups, men had a higher incidence rate compared to women, except for those aged 20-29 years. Although the overall HL incidence rate was lowered in the study period from 2000 to 2019, a dramatic decrease in ASIRs of HL patients following COVID-19 pandemic was observed.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to investigate the synergistic effects of dietary selenium nanoparticles (Se-NPs) and vitamin C (VC) on growth, body composition, antioxidant defense, immunity, and serum biochemical indexes of common carp (Cyprinus carp) juveniles. METHODOLOGY: The test diets were supplemented with three levels of Se-NPs (0, 0.5, and 1 mg/Kg) and three levels of VC (0, 500, and 1000 mg/Kg): the basal diet without supplemental Se-NPs and VC (VC0SeNPs0; control), 0.5 mg Se-NPs /Kg (VC0SeNPs0.5), 1 mg Se-NPs /Kg (VC0SeNPs1), 500 mg VC/Kg (VC500SeNPs0), 1000 mg VC/Kg (VC1000SeNPs0), 500 mg VC/Kg and 0.5 mg Se-NPs (VC500SeNPs0.5), 1000 mg VC/Kg and 0.5 mg Se-NPs (VC1000SeNPs0.5), 500 mg VC/Kg and 1 mg Se-NPs (VC500SeNPs1), 1000 mg VC/Kg and 1 mg Se-NPs (VC1000SeNPs1). The fish were randomly divided into nine experimental groups in triplicate tanks per treatment and fed on their respective diets for 60 days. RESULTS: The findings displayed that fish fed with VC500SeNPs1 and VC500SeNPs0.5 diets had significantly (P < 0.05) higher specific growth rates when compared to other groups. The lowest feed conversion ratio was detected in the VC1000SeNPs1 group and the highest in the control group (P < 0.05). VC, Se-NPs, and their interaction had no significant effect on serum malondialdehyde, ACH50, and IgM (P > 0.05). However, the best parameters associated with antioxidant capacity (higher serum levels of superoxide dismutase and total reduced glutathione) and physiological status (higher concentration of serum globulin and lower amounts of aspartate aminotransferase and lactate dehydrogenase) belonged to the VC1000SeNPs1 and VC500SeNPs1 groups. The results suggest that the Se-NPs and VC combination more efficiently influence the common carp's growth performance, antioxidant status, immunity, and physiological parameters. CONCLUSION: Overall, the diet enriched with 500 mg VC and 1 mg Se-NPs /Kg (VC500SeNPs1) is suitable for boosting the growth and immunity of common carp.

Yoga is an increasingly popular complementary intervention to reduce posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and related comorbidities, but its safety and treatment efficacy are not firmly established. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of existing randomized control trials (RCTs) of yoga interventions for PTSD and related secondary outcomes (e.g., depression). Initial search results found over 668 potential papers. Twenty met inclusion criteria (e.g., RCTs on adult participants with PTSD that evaluated safety or efficacy outcomes). Meta-analysis indicated that, compared to control interventions, participation in yoga interventions significantly improved self-report PTSD (standardized mean difference [SMD]: -0.51; 95 % confidence interval [CI]: -0.68, -0.35) and immediate (SMD: -0.39; 95 % CI: -0.56, -0.22) and long-term (SMD: -0.44; 95 % CI: -0.74, -0.13) depression symptoms. However, using clinician-reported assessments, yoga interventions were not associated with improved PTSD symptoms. Type of yoga differentially predicted outcomes. Sensitivity analysis showed consistent effect sizes when omitting each study from main analyses. Six studies reported whether any serious adverse events occurred. None were indicated. No publication bias was found, although individual intervention studies tended to be high in bias. Results suggest yoga is likely a safe and effective complementary intervention for reducing PTSD and depressive symptoms in individuals with PTSD. More rigorous RCTs are warranted.

BACKGROUND: Although rare, small intestine cancer is on the rise in the developed world. We aimed to investigate the incidence trends of small intestine cancer by sex, race/ethnicity, age, and histological subgroups in the United States (US) over 2000-2020. Also, we evaluated the COVID-19 impacts on the incidence trends of this cancer. METHODS: Data were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results 22 database. Both the average annual percent change (AAPC) and age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs) were determined. The findings were expressed as counts and incidence rates adjusted for age per 100,000 people with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: A total of 67,815 cases of small intestine cancer across all age groups were reported in the US between 2000 and 2019. Neuroendocrine carcinoma was the most often reported subtype (54.26%). The age group of 55 to 69 years (38.08%), men (53.10%), and Non-Hispanic Whites (69.07%) accounted for the majority of cases. Over 2000-2019, the ASIRs for small intestine cancer among men and women were 2.61 (95% CI: 2.59-2.64) and 1.92 (95% CI: 1.89-1.94) per 100,000, indicating a significant increase of 2.01% and 2.12%, respectively. Non-Hispanic Black men had the highest ASIR (4.25 per 100,000). Also, those aged 80-84 age group had the highest ASIR. During COVID-19, the ASIR of small intestine cancer decreased by 8.94% (5.06-12.81%). CONCLUSIONS: Small intestine cancer incidence raised in all sexes and ethnicities. Following COVID-19, reported cases declined, possibly due to pandemic-related diagnostic challenges. The impact of underdiagnosis on patient survival needs further investigations.

Introduction: The pivotal role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in facilitating effective communication between the embryo and maternal cells during the preimplantation stage of pregnancy has been extensively explored. Nonetheless, inquiries persist regarding the alterations in EV cargo from endometrial cells under stress conditions and its potential to elicit specific stress responses in trophoblast cells. Thus, the aim of this study was to elucidate the involvement of EV miRNA miRNAs in transmitting stress signals from maternal cells to trophoblasts. Methods: The receptive endometrial epithelium analogue RL95-2 cells were subjected to stress induction with 200 µM CoCl2 for 24 h before EV isolation. JAr trophoblast spheroids, which serve as embryos, were subjected to treatment with stressed or unstressed EVs derived from RL95-2 cells for 24 h. Transcriptomic alterations in the treated JAr spheroids as well as in the untreated group, as a negative control, were investigated by mRNA sequencing. Furthermore, the changes in EV miRNAs were assessed by sequencing EV samples. Results: A comprehensive analysis comparing the miRNA profiles between stressed and unstressed EVs revealed significant changes in 25 miRNAs. Furthermore, transcriptomic analysis of JAr spheroids treated with stressed RL95-2EVs versus unstressed EVs or the untreated group demonstrated 6 and 27 differentially expressed genes, respectively. Pathway enrichment analysis showed that stressed EVs induce alterations in gene expression in trophoblast cells, which is partially mediated by EV microRNAs. Discussion: Our results suggest that EVs can transfer stress signals from endometrial cells to the embryo. These discoveries shed new light on the mechanism underlying implantation failures under stress conditions. Unraveling the role of EVs in transmitting stress signals, can extend our knowledge to pave the way for targeted interventions to manage stress-related implantation failures.

Objective: The present work examined the anti-metastatic effects of auraptene and their underlying mechanisms of action in U87 Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) cells. Materials and Methods: To test the hypothesis, cell culture, Matrigel invasion assay, scratch wound healing assay, gelatin zymography assay, qRT-PCR, and western blot experiments were conducted. Results: At sublethal concentrations of 12.5 and 25 µg/ml, auraptene exhibited a significant reduction in cell invasion and migration of U87 cells, as assessed using scratch wound healing and Transwell tests, respectively. The qRT-PCR and zymography experiments demonstrated a significant decrease in both mRNA expression and activities of MMP-2 and MMP-9 following auraptene treatment. Western blot analysis also showed that MMP-2 protein level and phosphorylation of metastasis-related proteins (p-JNK and p-mTOR) decreased in auraptene-treated cells. Molecular docking studies consistently demonstrated that auraptene exhibits a significant affinity towards MMP-2/-9, the ATP binding site of mTOR and JNK1/2/3. Conclusion: Auraptene inhibited the migration and invasion of GBM cells. This inhibitory effect was induced by modulating specific mechanisms, including suppressing MMPs, JNK, and mTOR activities.

Background: Obesity is a global health crisis with profound implications on various body systems, contributing to a series of comorbidities. Metabolic Bariatric Surgery (MBS) has emerged as an effective treatment option for severe obesity, with significant weight reduction and potential systemic physiological alterations. Objectives: This narrative review aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the long-term effects of MBS on a wide array of body systems, including the heart, liver, kidneys, reproductive system, skin, lungs, digestive tract, pancreas, and blood, as well as related cancers of these organs. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in academic databases (PubMed, ISI Web of Science, and Scopus) for observational studies and reviews published between July 2000 and December 2023, investigating the association between MBS and the subsequent function of different organ systems. High-quality studies were prioritized to ensure reliable evidence synthesis. Results: MBS has demonstrated favorable outcomes in reducing cardiovascular disease risk, improving cardiac function, and alleviating heart failure symptoms. It has also been associated with improved respiratory function, remission of obstructive sleep apnea, and reduced cancer incidence and mortality. Additionally, MBS has shown benefits in managing gastrointestinal disorders, enhancing glycemic control, and promoting pancreatic beta-cell regeneration in type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, some methods of MBS are associated with a higher risk of cholelithiasis, GERD, and pancreatic exocrine insufficiency. Conclusion: MBS has far-reaching systemic effects beyond weight loss, offering potential long-term benefits for various organ systems and comorbidities associated with obesity. For many patients with severe obesity, the potential benefits of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) can outweigh the associated risks. However, careful evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional is crucial to determine candidacy and ensure a successful outcome. Further research is needed to fully elucidate the long-term impacts and tailor personalized treatment approaches.

Super absorbent polymer (SAP) has a capacity to enhance the characteristics of cementitious composites in both their fresh and hardened forms. However, it is essential to recognize that the strength of SAP concrete may decrease. By altering the concrete composition and selecting the appropriate type of SAP, it is possible to reduce this reduction. This work employs machine learning (ML) to tackle the issue of strength degradation. The analysis considers ten distinct variables linked to concrete composition and the type of SAP. The study uses machine learning approaches that involve both regression and classification tasks. The use of ensemble learning greatly improves the quality and accuracy of the results, showing its superiority in combining several models to produce more precise predictions. The findings demonstrate that the Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) regression algorithms accurately forecasted the percentage of reduction in strength in SAP concrete. These predictions were based on the concrete composition and SAP details, resulting in R2 values of 0.90 and 0.88, respectively. Furthermore, XGBoost exhibited the highest accuracy, reaching 0.94, when compared to the various categorization algorithms. According to the results, the mean squared error (MSE) of the ensemble model demonstrated superior outcomes. Furthermore, the SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) reveal that some variables, including SAP%, SAP size, and compressive strength, have a significant influence on the strength reduction model. This study aims to bridge the gap between academic research and practical application by developing a web application that employs ensemble learning to precisely forecast the reduction in compressive strength caused by the usage of SAP.

This study was conducted to investigate the status of Lead (Pb) and Nickel (Ni) in greenhouse cucumber affected by fertigation and spraying as a factorial split plot arrangement based on a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications at Soil and Water Research Institute, Karaj, Iran in 2023. The main and sub-plots were respectively fertigation and spraying that was applied in two levels [the minimum permissible concentration of these metals in granular triple super phosphate fertilizer (five ppm Pb and five ppm Ni) as the control treatment, and the maximum permissible concentration of Pb and Ni in granular triple super phosphate fertilizer (50 ppm Pb and 100 ppm Ni)]. Spraying was done in three modes (spraying leaves, leaves + fruit, and fruit). Based on the results, the highest concentration of Pb in the fruit (fruit peel + fruit flesh) (0.295 mg/kg DW) was recorded in the fertigation + spraying with the maximum permissible concentrations of Pb and Ni treatments. A general comparison between the two fertilization methods showed that the spraying method accumulated a higher concentration of Pb in the fruit (i.e., peel + flesh) than the fertigation method. The reverse of this status happened for Ni, so the fertigation method accumulated a higher concentration of Ni in the fruit (skin + flesh) compared to the spraying method. On average, the order of Pb concentration in different organs was as follows: leaf (0.765 mg/kg) > fruit peel (0.232 mg/kg) > fruit peel + flesh (0.174 mg/kg) > fruit flesh (0.129 mg/kg). This order for Ni was as follows: fruit flesh (0.597 mg/kg) > fruit peel + flesh (0.345 mg/kg) > leaf (0.3 mg/kg) > fruit peel (0.175 mg/kg). These orders show that the status of the heavy metals in plant tissues is related to the nature of the metal, the type of the organ, and the method of fertilization.

This article discusses a focused study on visualizing the flow patterns in a two-phase pulsating heat pipe (PHP) using Fe3O4/water as the working fluid at 3 V/V% concentration. The research also aims to meticulously examine phase change phenomena in the heating section, particularly focusing on bubble formation and expansion processes. A high-speed video camera was utilized to capture dynamic insights into the behavior of the Fe3O4/water mixture. Based on the findings, a straightforward model was developed to explain bubble generation and growth in the mixture, serving as a useful reference for future PHP designs and optimizations. Visual observations also noted the stable nature of the Fe3O4/water nanofluid over a 4-day period, confirming its consistency throughout the experiments. Moreover, the impact of heat load variation on the evaporator section was assessed using controlled heat inputs ranging from 10 to 80 W. Observations on the arrangement of slugs and plugs at a 50% filling ratio revealed interesting self-adjusting flow patterns in response to increasing heat inputs, providing valuable insights into PHP operational dynamics. Notably, the oscillatory flow behavior of Fe3O4/water, the chosen working fluid, exhibited greater activity in comparison to water. This distinctive flow behavior contributed to achieving heightened thermal performance efficiency for the Fe3O4/water system, attributed to its faster attainment of the annular flow condition.

This study aimed to explore the effects of different lipid sources on the performance, blood lipid parameters, immune system activity, and the expression of TNFα and TLR4 genes in broiler chickens. A total of 500 one-day-old male chicks of the ROSS 308 commercial strain were allocated into four treatment groups with five replicates each (each replicate comprised of 25 chickens), following a randomized design. The treatments were as follows: (1) a diet incorporating palm oil (PO, a source of saturated fatty acids); (2) a diet incorporating flaxseed oil (FO, a source of omega-3); (3) a diet incorporating soybean oil (SO, a source of omega-6); and (4) a diet incorporating olive oil (OO, a source of omega-9). According to the findings, the broiler chickens exhibited a significant increase in body weight gain (BWG) throughout the study when their diet consisted of unsaturated oils, as opposed to a diet including PO. Conversely, the feed conversion ratio (FCR) significantly decreased (P<0.01). The treatment with FO resulted in the highest percentage of lymphocytes and antibody titers against Newcastle and Gumboro diseases, showing a significant difference compared to the treatment with PO (P<0.01). Moreover, the relative expression of TNFα and TLR4 genes was the lowest following the FO treatment, indicating a significant decrease compared to the treatment with PO. Overall, the present findings demonstrated that incorporating omega-3 fatty acids into the diet was more effective in enhancing the growth performance, immune system, and health of broiler chickens.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with pronated feet often experience altered foot biomechanics, leading to increased risk of lower limb injuries. Step width modification has been proposed as a potential intervention to improve foot alignment during gait. RESEARCH QUESTION: Does modifying step width influence rearfoot eversion and medial longitudinal arch angle (MLAA) in individuals with pronated feet during walking and running? METHODS: Twenty individuals with pronated feet underwent analysis during walking and running on treadmill, maintaining increased or decreased step width using real-time visual feedback. Three-dimensional motion analysis measured rearfoot eversion and MLAA during the stance phase of gait. RESULTS: Wide step width significantly reduced peak rearfoot eversion during waking (mean difference - with normal step width - (MD) = 3.6°, p < 0.001) and running (MD = 4.4°, p < 0.001), time to peak rearfoot eversion during walking (MD = 16.6 p < 0.001) and running (MD = 13.8°, p = 0.014), rearfoot eversion at touch down (TD) during walking (MD = 1.3°, p = 0.004), rearfoot eversion excursion during running (MD = 4.3°, p < 0.001), and peak MLAA during walking (MD = 2.9°, p = 0.006) and MLAA excursion during running (MD = 4.8°, p = 0.004). By contrast, during running, narrow condition significantly increased peak rearfoot eversion (MD = 3.4°, p < 0.001). During walking, time to peak rearfoot eversion (MD = 16.1, p < 0.001), rearfoot eversion at TD (MD = 1.4°, p = 0.008), rearfoot eversion excursion (MD = 5.9°, p < 0.001), and peak MLAA (MD = 3.4°, p < 0.001) were significantly increased. SIGNIFICANCE: This study highlights the potential of step width modification as a simple yet effective intervention to improve foot biomechanics in pronated feet individuals during walking and running. Further research could lead to the development of personalized strategies for pronated feet individuals.

Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are widely used in clinical practice across the globe as cancer treatments. Intrinsic or acquired chemoresistance poses a significant problem for medical practitioners and researchers, causing tumor recurrence and metastasis. The most dangerous kind of malignant brain tumor is called glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) that often recurs following surgery. The most often used medication for treating GBM is temozolomide chemotherapy; however, most patients eventually become resistant. Researchers are studying preclinical models that accurately reflect human disease and can be used to speed up drug development to overcome chemoresistance in GBM. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have been shown to be substantial in regulating tumor development and facilitating treatment resistance in several cancers, such as GBM. In this work, we mentioned the mechanisms of how different ncRNAs (microRNAs, long non-coding RNAs, circular RNAs) can regulate temozolomide chemosensitivity in GBM. We also address the role of these ncRNAs encapsulated inside secreted exosomes.

Background: We aimed to evaluate the differential expression of nanos and ago genes in the protoscoleces, germinal layer, the neck, and the sucker regions of adult Echinococcus granulosus. Methods: The study was conducted in 2018 at the Research Center for Hydatid Disease in Iran, Kerman University of Medical Sciences, Kerman, Iran. In the present study E. granulosus protoscoleces were cultured in a di-phasic medium to obtain strobilated worms. The strobilated worms were harvested and using a sterile razor blade, the neck region was separated. In the molecular study the neck sections were compared with the tissues derived from the suckers from the same worm. The primers were specifically designed for RT-qPCR on nanos and ago. The germinative cells were isolated from the cyst germinal layer and cultured in DMEM for further molecular studies. The Immunohisto-chemical profile was designed to explore the nature of nanos protein in the strobilated worms. Differences between and within groups were statistically assessed relative to the protoscoleces. Results: An increasing nanos gene expressions were found in sucker, neck, cells and germinal layer in comparison to the protoscoleces. The expression of ago gene was decreased in sucker, cell and germinal layer, and increased in the neck region in comparison to the protoscoleces. The results showed that both genes were expressed in all developmental stages of E. granulosus. Conclusion: nanos and ago genes were differentially expressed at different developmental stages of E. granulosus and may contribute to differentiation of the parasite.
