PIP: 13224 female patient journals were studied to determine fertility statistics for Maribo County, Denmark, for the years 1967-1969. Fertility was defined as being demonstrated by becoming pregnant. Public birth statistics from 1947 to 1968 show a decrease in the number of births/1000 women from 20.0 to 12.8 and a decrease in the surplus birthrate from 9.8 to 1.1/1000 women. The average pregnancy quotient is 2.97 pregnancies/woman and the average abortion quotient is .31 abortions/woman. The average age boundaries for the fertile period decreased from 24-31 to 21-27. In a study of contraceptive use among these women, good contraceptive methods (condom, diaphragm, IUD, etc.) were used by more than 50% only among the youngest women. The greatest fertility was found among those who chose the most effective contraceptive methods.^ieng
