RESUMEN

We herein report a 36-year-old male patient, who complained of persistent and recurrent nausea with vomiting for 16 years in spite of various standard treatments, was successfully treated with Kampo formulation Shimbuto, which selected based on the left para-navel tender point. We speculated that the clinical disorder in this case was related to suitai i.e. water imbalance syndrome in Kampo medicine. However, there has never been such a case report in the field of Kampo, and no related papers have been found in the standard database Medline. We believe this report is valuable from the viewpoint of therapeutics in both Western and Kampo medicine.

RESUMEN

Two cases of hair loss due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) sequelae as known as Long COVID were successfully treated with ninjin’yoeito. Case 1 was a 45-year-old woman who complained of hair loss about 2 months after COVID-19 (moderate II in Japanese criteria). Case 2 was a 50-year-old woman who complained of hair loss about 2 months after COVID-19 (mild). In all cases, hair loss stopped next month after treatment with ninjin’yoeito. And their hair began to grow 2 months later administration, the depression caused by hair loss improved as the symptoms improved. Hair loss is one of the symptoms with blood [TM1] deficiency, and patients suffering from Long COVID are also with qi deficiency. We gave ninjinʼyoeito for pattern of both qi and blood [TM1] deficiency with reference to traditional key of treatment, and it contributed to the improvement of symptoms.

RESUMEN

Cyclospora cayetanensis is a coccidian protozoa that was newly recognized in 1979 in Papua New Guinea. We report the case of a 42-year-old French man who had visited Vietnam and presented with fever and watery diarrhea that had lasted for more than 2 weeks. The patient was diagnosed with C. cayetanensis infection by examination of a stool smear using UV fluorescence microscopy. Based on this rare case, we recommend that Cyclospora infection might be considered in the differential diagnosis of traveler's diarrhea in immunocompetent patients.
