During an epidemic in the premature ward of Ankara Pediatric Hospital which lasted for almost 25 days, 15 cases were diagnosed and H2S (TSI medium) negative S. typhimurium strains were isolated 23 times on the specimens obtained from these patients. Specimens consisted of mainly stools but two were blood samples, one was a lung aspirate and two were pathologic materials obtained from the elbow and hip joints of the same patient. When these strains were transferred to Braun-Ozek B Medium, they were able to produce H2S which was detected because of the strong blackening on the lead acetate paper. Component replacement studies were performed to show which were necessary for the production of H2S in this second media. According to the results of this studies Pepton witte + meat extract broth + Na2S2O3 . 5H2O were found essential for the production of H2S in Braun-Ozek B. Medium. When this medium was prepared with the incorporation of ferrous ammonium sulfate instead of Na2S2O3, 5H2O, the production of H2S decreased and delayed.

The new media are recommended for the isolation of cholera vibrios. The medium for Vibrio El Tor contains only starch, gelatin polymyxin B and natrium chloride and has no nutrient or inhibitor substances such as peptone, meat extract, yeast extract, blood, natrium taurocholate and bile salts. The medium for Vibrio cholerae contains starch, gelatin, natrium taurocholate and potassium tellurite, but has no peptone, meat extract, yeast extract or polymyxin B.

Patients referred to the Parasitology Laboratory of Ankara Univ. Med. School were examined with respect to giardiasis. The incidence rate of giardiasis was found to be rather high. When compared with the previous findings, no changes in the rate have been noted so far. Furthermore, when stool specimens from patients with giardiasis were examined bacteriologically, it was found that this protozoon could cause malabsorption and some changes in the intestinal flora.

The immune sera for Dekkera bruxellensis, D. intermedia and Hanseniaspora osmophila agglutinated Salmonella cholerae-suis (O:62,7) and vice versa. The immune serum for H. osmophila also agglutinated E. coli (O:75), S. aberdeen (O:11) and vice versa. Cross agglutination and absorption tests demonstrated common antigenic factor(s) between above mentioned yeasts and Salmonella O:62, O:7 antigens. H. osmophila also showed a common antigenic factor(s) with E. coli (O:75) and S. aberdeen (O:11).

Antigenic relationships between Candida clausseni and Salmonella choleraesuis were presented before. In this study, antigenic relationships between Salmonella choleraesuis and different strains of Torulopsis analyzed by immunodiffusion studies. Antigenic relationships between intragroups of Torulopsis were also studied. The results showed that the common thermostable component (s) of S. choleraesuis and Torulopsis musae may probably be related to the common enterobacterial antigen. Other results are also discussed.

In this study, agglutinating sera against K. africana, K. corticis, K. javanica var. javanica and K. javanica var lafarii are prepared. Cross agglutination and absorption tests are carried out with these four Kloeckera strains and an antigenic relationship is shown (see table I). There were no antigenic relationship between K. apicuata var. apis and these four Kloeckera strains. Also, in this paper, previous studies, like using Salmonella 0 : 6(2) agglutinating serum for serological differential diagnosis between K. javanica var. javanica and K. javanica var. lafarii and antigenic relationship between K. africana and Salmonella 0 : II and E. coli 0 : 75 antigens were also mentioned.

The immune serum for K. africana agglutinated S. aberdeen (O11) and E. coli (O75) strains. In this study the skin test with cockroach antigen was employed to 125 allergic patients and 100 normal individuals. 36% of the allergic patients and 13% of the other group gave positive skin reaction. In 45 patients with positive skin tests to cockroach antigen sensitivity to house-dust antigen was also determined. The results of tests with these two antigens were compared.

Direct microscopic and cultural examination of 151 cases of vaginitis have been applied. Trichomonas vaginalis observed in 22 cases by direct microscopic examination and isolated in 42 cases by cultural method. Candida sp isolated in 46 cases. All patients were treated.

In this paper, the antigenic relationship among standard T. insectalens and T. musae strains and other 11 standard Torulopsis are investigated using simultaneous agglutination and absorption experiments. These experiments also showed that T. insectalens and T. musae have special antigenic fractions, different from Torulopsis antigens.

In this short communication the results of cross agglutination and absorption tests among seven standard Candida albicans strains (C. albicans CBS - 562, C. albicans CBS - 1899 (C. truncata), C. albicans CBS - 2695, C. albicans CBS - 5144 (C. intestinals), C., albicans CBS - 5145 (C. biliaria) are given. It showed that these microrganisms have the same antigenic structure.
