RESUMEN

We reported the discovery of six novel coumarins, toddasirins A-F (1-6), each endowed with modified isoprenyl or geranyl side chains, derived from the roots of Toddalia asiatica. Comprehensive structural elucidation was achieved through multispectroscopic analyses, single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments, and advanced quantum mechanical electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. Furthermore, the anti-inflammatory activity of these compounds was assessed. Notably, compounds 1-3 and 6 demonstrated notable inhibitory effects on nitric oxide (NO) production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 cells, with 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of 3.22, 4.78, 8.90, and 4.31 μmol·L-1, respectively.

RESUMEN

For medical students, we combine the laboratory practice with clinical applications by developing biochemical and molecular biology experiments. In this experiment, students first collect their own buccal epithelial cells by a noninvasive mouthwash method. Then, they extract genomic DNA and perform polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to amplify angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene using genomic DNA as a template. Finally, the polymorphism of ACE gene is observed by electrophoresis. Students not only learn the techniques but also acquire knowledge of the ACE gene polymorphism. By establishing the relationship among ACE polymorphism and high blood pressure and myocardial hypertrophy, students should be able to understand the gene polymorphism and its association with susceptibility to disease. This laboratory practice teaching can also stimulate desire to do scientific research. Experimental results from many individuals can help us determine and analyze the fractions of ACE gene types in Chinese cohorts. Such an experiment strongly activates students and provides a solid foundation for the medical students' future research and clinical application. © 2019 International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 47(2): 168-174, 2019.

RESUMEN

Experimental course for integrative life science curriculum is designed for medical students ,which integrates basic knowledge and skills of cellular biology,biochemistry,genetics,molec-ular biology, molecular genetics, and immunology disciplines. Tongji University School of Medicine start-ed to implement integration-based new curriculum system since 2010. This article discussed on teaching philosophy, teaching content, teaching methods, teaching team construction and explored the effect and significance of experimental course for integrative life science curriculum.

RESUMEN

According to content of ‘lipid metabolism’,we crafted a effective case for problem based learning (PBL) and practiced it in biochemistry course. In group discussion, students participated in discussion with great enthusiasm and initiative.During the discussion, students got a better understanding about lipid metabolism and clinical application of the knowledge. As teachers,we maily guided students during PBL,and at the same time,we also summed up the experience and explored how PBL be implemented for freshmen and sophomores who lack clinical practice.

RESUMEN

Objective To screen the differentially expressed genes in optic tecta of pigeon with monooccular deprivation. Methods Using suppression subtractive hybridization technique, the differentially expressed cDNA library for the left optic tecta of pigeons was constructed;recombinant clones were sequenced randomly and further proved to be the true positive by reverse Northern blot analysis. Results 150 of EST (expressed sequence tags) were sequenced and 16 of them proved true positive, which included those homologous to known genes and those having no matches.138 of ESTs were assigned Accession Number by Genbank.Conclusion\ Our data provided to be the useful clues for studying the development of visual system and the molecular construction of vision center system.
