RESUMEN

Innate immunity is an important defense barrier for the human body. After viral pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) are detected by host-pathogen recognition receptors (PRRs), the associated signaling pathways trigger the activation of the interferon (IFN) regulatory factor (IRF) family members and the nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB). However, any gene defects among the signaling adaptors will compromise innate immune efficiency. Therefore, investigating genetic defects in the antiviral innate immune signaling pathway is important. We summarize the commonly used research methods related to antiviral immune gene defects and outline the relevant research protocols, which will help investigators study antiviral innate immunity.

RESUMEN

Gelatin have excellent film-forming and barrier properties, but its lack of biological activity limits its application in packaging. In this study, fish gelatin incorporated with apple polyphenol/cumin essential oil composite films were successfully prepared by melt extrusion. The cross-linking existed in gelatin and apple polyphenol improved the thermal stability and oxidation resistance of the film. The synergistic effect of apple polyphenols and cumin essential oil decreased the sensitivity of the film to water, especially the water solubility decreased from 41.60 % to 26.07 %. The plasticization of essential oil nearly doubled the elongation at break while maintaining the tensile strength of the film (11.45 MPa). Furthermore, the FG-CEO-AP film can inhibit peroxide value to extend the shelf life about 20 days in the walnut oil preservation. In summary, the apple polyphenol/cumin essential oil of FG film exhibits excellent comprehensive properties and high preparation efficiency for utilization as an active packaging material.

RESUMEN

Quercetin has shown potential antihypertensive-like activities in several studies. The present study aimed to test the effect of quercetin supplementation on kidney damage and long-term prognosis in hypertensive patients. The data of enrolled hypertensive patients were acquired from the NHANES dataset. The flavanol intake data was extracted from the FNDDS flavonoid database. Information regarding mortality was extracted from the NCHS. A total of 5801 hypertensive patients were included in this study. Preliminary analysis found that the total flavanols intake dosage was the independent influence factor of the kidney damage prevalence in hypertension, and it was found that only the quercetin supplementation was the protective factor for kidney damage after stratification analysis. For every 10 mg/d increase in quercetin intake, the kidney damage prevalence decreased by 8% [OR = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.85-0.99, p = 0.032]. The comprehensive analysis results suggested that hypertensive patients in the quercetin-high group had a lower kidney damage prevalence and a higher survival probability than those in the quercetin-low group. The urine microalbumin of hypertensive patients in the quercetin-high group was significantly lower than that of hypertensive patients in the quercetin-low group. In addition, at a median follow-up time of 122 months, the mortality decreased by 9% [HR = 0.91, 95% CI: 0.84-0.99, p = 0.031] for every 10 mg/d increase in quercetin intake. The findings suggested that high quercetin intake was associated with low kidney damage prevalence and high survival probability. Based on the existing evidence, promoting quercetin supplementation as a supplementary treatment for hypertensive patients was warranted.

RESUMEN

N1-methyladenosine (m1A) is a reversible epigenetic modification of RNAs. Aberrant m1A modification levels due to dysregulation of m1A regulators have been observed in multiple cancers. tRNA methyltransferase 10C (TRMT10C) can install m1A in RNAs; however, its role in hepatoblastoma remains unknown. We conducted this study to identify causal polymorphisms in the TRMT10C gene for hepatoblastoma susceptibility in a cohort of Chinese children (313 cases vs. 1446 controls). The genotypes of four potential functional polymorphisms (rs7641261 C>T, rs2303476 T>C, rs4257518 A>G, and rs3762735 C>G) were determined in participants using TaqMan real-time PCR. The associations of these polymorphisms with hepatoblastoma susceptibility were estimated by logistic regression analysis adjusted for age and sex. All four polymorphisms were significantly associated with hepatoblastoma risk. In particular, under the recessive genetic model, these polymorphisms conferred an increased risk of hepatoblastoma: rs7641261 C>T [adjusted odds ratio (OR)=1.64, 95% confidence interval (CI)=1.04-2.58, P=0.033], rs2303476 T>C (adjusted OR=1.87, 95% CI=1.16-3.02, P=0.010), rs4257518 A>G (adjusted OR=1.45, 95% CI=1.09-1.94, P=0.012), and rs3762735 C>G (adjusted OR=3.83, 95% CI=2.15-6.82, P<0.0001). Combined analysis revealed that kids had an increased risk of developing hepatoblastoma if they harbored at least one risk genotype (adjusted OR=1.94, 95% CI=1.48-2.54, P<0.0001). In addition, the combined risk effects of the four SNPs persisted across all the subgroups. We identified four hepatoblastoma susceptibility loci in the TRMT10C gene. Identifying more disease-causing loci may facilitate the development of genetic marker panels to predict individuals' hepatoblastoma predisposition.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Due to frequent and high-risk sports activities, the elbow joint is susceptible to injury, especially to cartilage tissue, which can cause pain, limited movement and even loss of joint function. AIM: To evaluate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) multisequence imaging for improving the diagnostic accuracy of adult elbow cartilage injury. METHODS: A total of 60 patients diagnosed with elbow cartilage injury in our hospital from January 2020 to December 2021 were enrolled in this retrospective study. We analyzed the accuracy of conventional MRI sequences (T1-weighted imaging, T2-weighted imaging, proton density weighted imaging, and T2 star weighted image) and Three-Dimensional Coronary Imaging by Spiral Scanning (3D-CISS) in the diagnosis of elbow cartilage injury. Arthroscopy was used as the gold standard to evaluate the diagnostic effect of single and combination sequences in different injury degrees and the consistency with arthroscopy. RESULTS: The diagnostic accuracy of 3D-CISS sequence was 89.34% ± 4.98%, the sensitivity was 90%, and the specificity was 88.33%, which showed the best performance among all sequences (P < 0.05). The combined application of the whole sequence had the highest accuracy in all sequence combinations, the accuracy of mild injury was 91.30%, the accuracy of moderate injury was 96.15%, and the accuracy of severe injury was 93.33% (P < 0.05). Compared with arthroscopy, the combination of all MRI sequences had the highest consistency of 91.67%, and the kappa value reached 0.890 (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Combination of 3D-CISS and each sequence had significant advantages in improving MRI diagnostic accuracy of elbow cartilage injuries in adults. Multisequence MRI is recommended to ensure the best diagnosis and treatment.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: In China, there is a long history and rich clinical experience in treating nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) with traditional Chinese herbal medicines, including Chai Hu Shu Gan San. This study aims to investigate the potential regulatory effects of Chaihu Shugan San (CSS) on liver lipid metabolism and inflammatory damage in mice with experimental nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) induced by a choline-deficient high-fat diet (CDHFD). Utilizing network pharmacology, we systematically explore the mechanisms of action and therapeutic potential of CSS against NASH. METHODS: Potential targets in CSS and targets for NASH were identified using online databases. Functional enrichment and protein-protein interaction analyses were conducted to identify hub-targeted genes and elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. The affinities of active compounds in CSS with hub-targeted genes were evaluated using molecular docking. Finally, hub-targeted genes were validated through real-time polymerase chain reaction, western blotting, and immunofluorescence in choline-deficient high-fat diet mice, both with and without CSS treatment. KEY FINDINGS: CSS reduces serum ALT and AST levels in NASH mice(P < 0.05) and ameliorates ballooning degeneration in the livers of NASH mice, thereby lowering the NAS score(P < 0.05). Including naringenin, high-performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometrys identified 12 chromatographic peaks. Based on network pharmacology analysis, CSS contains a total of 103 active compounds and 877 target genes. Transferase activity represents a potential mechanism for therapeutic intervention of CSS in NASH. The transcriptional levels and protein expression of the SIRT1 gene in NASH mice are significantly increased by CSS (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Naringenin is probable active compound in CSS and SIRT1 is the hub gene by which CSS is involved in NASH treatment.

RESUMEN

Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a prevalent neurological complication that can impair learning and memory for days, months, or even years after anesthesia/surgery. POCD is strongly associated with an altered composition of the gut microbiota (dysbiosis), but the accompanying metabolic changes and their role in gut-brain communication and POCD pathogenesis remain unclear. Here, the present study reports that anesthesia/surgery in aged mice induces elevated intestinal indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) activity, which shiftes intestinal tryptophan (TRP) metabolism toward more IDO-catalyzed kynurenine (KYN) and less gut bacteria-catabolized indoleacetic acid (IAA). Both anesthesia/surgery and intraperitoneal KYN administration induce increased KYN levels that correlate with impaired spatial learning and memory, whereas dietary IAA supplementation attenuates the anesthesia/surgery-induced cognitive impairment. Mechanistically, anesthesia/surgery increases the proportion of interferon-γ (IFN-γ)-producing group 1 innate lymphoid cells (ILC1) in the small intestine lamina propria and elevates intestinal IDO expression and activity, as indicated by the higher ratio of KYN to TRP. The IDO inhibitor 1-MT and antibodies targeting IFN-γ or ILCs mitigate anesthesia/surgery-induced cognitive dysfunction, suggesting that intestinal ILC1 expansion and the ensuing IFN-γ-induced IDO upregulation may be the primary pathway mediating the shift to the KYN pathway in POCD. The ILC1-KYN pathway in the intestine could be a promising therapeutic target for POCD.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To assess the feasibility, efficacy, and safety of microwave ablation in treating follicular thyroid neoplasms and suspicious follicular thyroid neoplasms. METHODS: In this retrospective study, the data of patients treated with microwave ablation for follicular neoplasms from December 2016 to January 2024 were summarized. The changes in nodule size, volume, technical success rate, disease progression, complete tumor resolution, thyroid function, and complications post-ablation were evaluated. RESULTS: Seventy-four patients (15 men, 59 women; mean age 46.3 ± 15.2 years) with follicular neoplasms were included. Over a median follow-up of 13 months, complete ablation was achieved, giving a 100% technical success rate. At the first month post-ablation, the maximum diameter of nodules showed no significant change (p = 0.287). From the third month, both maximum diameter and volume significantly decreased (p < 0.005 for all). Volume reduction rates remained stable at one and three months (p = 0.389 and 0.06, respectively) but increased significantly thereafter (p < 0.005 for all). By 24 months, the median maximum diameter had reduced from 2.3 cm to 0 cm, achieving a median volume reduction rate of 100%. Nodules disappeared completely in 20.3% (15/74). Local recurrence was noted in 2.7% of cases (2/74), with no metastasis or neoplasm-related deaths reported. Thyroid function remained unchanged post-treatment (p > 0.05). The complication and side effect rates were 8.1% and 4.1%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Initial findings suggest microwave ablation is an effective and safe treatment for follicular neoplasms, with low incidences of disease progression and complications, while maintaining thyroid function.

RESUMEN

The fabrication of multi-component film with colloidal particles could be inconvenient. A novel "swell-permeate" (SP) strategy was proposed to form homogeneous multi-component films. The SP strategy allows colloidal particles to fit into the polymer network by stretching the polymer chains assisted by water. We demonstrated the strategy by creating films with polysaccharide substrates as ß-cyclodextrin grafted chitosan (CS) with nanocellulose. The addition of nanocellulose significantly increased the mechanical properties and the barrier performance of the films. The size of nanocellulose particles in affecting mechanical properties was investigated by applying different length of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC), the longer of which, due to denser physical entanglements, showed a better increase to the film in the elastic modulus and tensile strength to 4.54-fold and 5.71-fold, respectively. The films were also loaded with ethyl-p-coumarate (EpCA) and had an enhanced performance in anti-microbial for Altenaria alternata, Salmonella typhi, and Escherichia coli. The anti-oxidative property was increased as well, and both effects were valid both in vitro and in ready-to-eat apples. The strategy provides a practical and convenient method for fabricating colloidal particle containing films, and the novel idea of "swell-permeate" is potentially regarded as a new solution to the challenge of ready-to-eat food quality maintenance.

RESUMEN

A novel water-soluble polysaccharide, named PF90-1, with a molecular weight of 1.8 kDa, was isolated and purified from the fibrous root of Pseudostellaria heterophylla. PF90-1 is composed of Gal, Glc and Man in a molar ratio of 73.61: 19.11: 7.28. Methylation analysis revealed that PF90-1 comprises of T-Galp, 1,4-Galp, 1,3,4-Galp, 1,2,3,4-Galp, T-Glcp and 1,3-Manp in a molar ratio of 37.89: 9.37: 17.01: 12.01: 15.88: 7.83. Bioactivity experiments showed that PF90-1 significantly improved lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory damage in RAW264.7 cells by inhibiting nitric oxide (NO) production and reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory factors (IL-1ß and TNF-α). In addition, PF90-1 exhibited strong antioxidant effects, protecting PC12 cells from H2O2-induced oxidative damage. This findings suggest that PF90-1 holds potential therapeutic value for the treatment of inflammatory and oxidative injuries.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer is ranked among the most prevalent malignancies in the Chinese female population. However, comprehensive reports detailing the latest epidemiological data and attributable disease burden have not been extensively documented. METHODS: In 2018, high-quality cancer surveillance data were recorded in 700 population-based cancer registries in China. We extracted data on female breast cancers (International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision [ICD-10]: C50) and estimated the incidence and mortality in 2022 according to the baseline data and corresponding trends from 2010 to 2018. Pathological types were classified according to the ICD for Oncology, 3rd Edition codes. Disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were calculated as the sum of the years of life lost (YLLs) and years lived with disability (YLDs). RESULTS: In 2022, approximately 357,200 new female breast cancer cases and 75,000 deaths occurred in China, accounting for 15.59% and 7.94% of total new cancer cases and deaths, respectively. The age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) was 33.04 per 100,000. When analyzed by pathological type, the ASIRs for papillary neoplasms, invasive breast carcinoma, rare and salivary gland-type tumors, and other types were 1.13, 29.79, 0.24, and 1.88 per 100,000, respectively. The age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) was 6.10 per 100,000. A total of 2,628,000 DALYs were found to be attributable to female breast cancer in China, comprising 2,278,300 YLLs and 349,700 YLDs. The ASIR, ASMR, and age-standardized rate (ASR) for DALYs in urban areas were consistently higher than those in rural areas. We observed a four-fold increase in the ASIR and ASR for DALYs and an eight-fold increase in the ASMR among females over 55 years compared with those aged under 55 years. CONCLUSION: These data provide invaluable insights into the latest epidemiology of female breast cancer in China and highlight the urgency for disease prevention and control strategy formulation.

RESUMEN

Accurate tumor detection is crucial for the early discovery and subsequent treatment of small neoplastic foci. Molecular imaging, which combines non-invasiveness, high specificity, and strong sensitivity, excels in diagnosing early tumors and stands out among tumor diagnosis methods. Here, we introduced a dual-modal imaging probe capable of actively targeting tumor cells, suitable for both near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Dendritic mesoporous silica was used as a carrier for the probe, encapsulating Ag2S quantum dots (QDs) for NIR fluorescence imaging. Additionally, the probe conjugated the MRI contrast agent Gd-DOTA and cetuximab, which targeted EGFR on the tumor cell membrane surface, to achieve dual-modal imaging in the tumor area. This strategy provided a methodology for the accurate diagnosis of early-stage tumor lesions and guides precise lesion resection during surgery, offering significant potential for clinical application.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Fiber post (FP) reinforced restoration was widespread in endodontically treated teeth, of which the retention was closely related to fit and operation process. However, the question whether the fit and self-etching adhesive (SED) affect the success of FP restoration still remained unclear. OBJECTIVE: This research aimed to assess how the fit and self-etching adhesive (SED) impact the pull-out bond strength (BS) of glass fiber-reinforced composite posts from the root canal dentin. METHODS: Eighty lower first premolars underwent simulated endodontic treatment, after which their canals were shaped to accommodate a size three RelyX fiber post (FP) (diameter 1.9 mm). They were then divided into 4 equal groups [Unfit post and no SEA (Group UN), Fit post and no SEA (Group FN), Unfit post with SEA (Group UA) and Fit post with SEA (Group FA)] using two different sized FPs and SEA. Cement thickness was acquired by histological analysis and stereomicroscopy. Each sample was tested for pull-out strength through a universal testing machine. Based on the pull-out test, the failure types were observed and scored by visualizing through a stereomicroscope. RESULTS: Group FA demonstrated significantly greater BS compared to Group UN and Group UA, with Group UN showing a statistically significant difference at p< 0.01 and Group UA at p< 0.05. Main failure types in Group FA were Type II, which illustrated that the cement detachment mainly occurred from the post-cement interface. Therefore, Group FA possessed the STRONGEST BS and was most suitable for FP-reinforced crown restorations. CONCLUSIONS: Both the fit and SEA enhanced the pull-out BS. The SEA was critical for BS promotion when the mechanical retention was inadequate.

RESUMEN

In northern China, soil temperature slowly rises in spring, often subjecting apple roots to sub-low-temperature stress. Sugar acts as both a nutrient and signaling molecule in roots in response to low-temperature stress. To explore the effects of exogenous sugars on the growth and nutrient absorption of Malus baccata Borkh., we analyzed growth parameters, photosynthetic characteristics of leaves, and mineral element content in different tissues of M. baccata seedlings under five treatments, including control (CK), sub-low root zone temperature (L), sub-low root zone temperature + sucrose (LS), sub-low root zone temperature + fructose (LF), and sub-low root zone temperature + glucose (LG). The results showed that compared to CK, plant height, root growth parameters, aboveground biomass, leaf photosynthesis, fluorescence parameters, chlorophyll content, and the contents of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) in M. baccata seedlings were significantly decreased under the L treatment, and the content of Ca in roots was significantly increased. Compared to the L treatment without exogenous sugar, photosynthesis, functional parameters, chlorophyll content, and growth parameters increased to different degrees after exogenous sucrose, fructose, and glucose application. The N and P contents in roots were significantly increased. The N, P, and K contents significantly increased in stems while only the Ca content significantly increased in stems treated with sucrose. Leaf N, P, K, Ca, and Mg contents significantly increased after being treated with the three exogenous sugars. In conclusion, exogenous sugars can improve photosynthetic efficiency, promote mineral element absorption, and alleviate the inhibition of growth and development of M. baccata at sub-low root zone temperatures, and the effect of sucrose treatment was better than that of fructose and glucose treatments.

RESUMEN

Biological nitrogen fixation is the main source of nitrogen in ecosystems. The diversity of soil rhizobia and their effects on soybeans need further research. In this study, we collected soybean rhizosphere samples from eight sites in the black soil soybean planting area in Northeast China. A total of 94 strains of bacteria were isolated and identified using the 16S rRNA and symbiotic genes (nodC, nifH) analysis, of which 70 strains were identified as rhizobia belonging to the genus Bradyrhizobium. To further validate the application effects of rhizobia, we selec-ted seven representative indigenous rhizobia based on the results of phylogenetic analysis, and conducted laboratory experiments to determine their nodulation and the impacts on soybeans. The results showed that, compared to the control without rhizobial inoculation, all the seven indigenous rhizobia exhibited good promoting and nodulation abilities. Among them, strains H7-L22 and H34-L6 performed the best, with the former significantly increasing plant height by 25.7% and the latter increasing root nodule dry weight by 20.9% to 67.1% compared to other indi-genous rhizobia treatments. We tested these two efficient rhizobia strains as soybean rhizobial inoculants in field experiments. The promoting effect of mixed rhizobial inoculants was significantly better than single ones. Compared to the control without inoculation, soybean yield increased by 8.4% with the strain H7-L22 treatment and by 17.9% with the mixed inoculant treatment. Additionally, there was a significant increase in the number of four-seed pods in soybeans. In conclusion, the application of rhizobial inoculants can significantly increase soybean yield, thereby reducing dependence on nitrogen fertilizer during soybean production, improving soil health, and promoting green development in agriculture in the black soil region of Northeast China.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Among cultivated tea plants (Camellia sinensis), only four mitogenomes for C. sinensis var. assamica (CSA) have been reported so far but none for C. sinensis var. sinensis (CSS). Here, two mitogenomes of CSS (CSSDHP and CSSRG) have been sequenced and assembled. Methods: Using a combination of Illumina and Nanopore data for the first time. Comparison between CSS and CSA mitogenomes revealed a huge heterogeneity. Results: The number of the repetitive sequences was proportional to the mitogenome size and the repetitive sequences dominated the intracellular gene transfer segments (accounting for 88.7%- 92.8% of the total length). Predictive RNA editing analysis revealed that there might be significant editing in NADH dehydrogenase subunit transcripts. Codon preference analysis showed a tendency to favor A/T bases and T was used more frequently at the third base of the codon. ENc plots analysis showed that the natural selection play an important role in shaping the codon usage bias, and Ka/Ks ratios analysis indicated Nad1 and Sdh3 genes may have undergone positive selection. Further, phylogenetic analysis shows that six C. sinensis clustered together, with the CSA and CSS forming two distinct branches, suggesting two different evolutionary pathway. Discussion: Altogether, this investigation provided an insight into evolution and phylogeny relationship of C. sinensis mitogenome, thereby enhancing comprehension of the evolutionary patterns within C. sinensis species.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The postharvest rot of kiwifruit is one of the most devastating diseases affecting kiwifruit quality worldwide. However, the genomic basis and pathogenicity mechanisms of kiwifruit rot pathogens are lacking. Here we report the first whole genome sequence of Pestalotiopsis microspora, one of the main pathogens causing postharvest kiwifruit rot in China. The genome of strain KFRD-2 was sequenced, de novo assembled, and analyzed. RESULTS: The genome of KFRD-2 was estimated to be approximately 50.31 Mb in size, with an overall GC content of 50.25%. Among 14,711 predicted genes, 14,423 (98.04%) exhibited significant matches to genes in the NCBI nr database. A phylogenetic analysis of 26 known pathogenic fungi, including P. microspora KFRD-2, based on conserved orthologous genes, revealed that KFRD-2's closest evolutionary relationships were to Neopestalotiopsis spp. Among KFRD-2's coding genes, 870 putative CAZy genes spanned six classes of CAZys, which play roles in degrading plant cell walls. Out of the 25 other plant pathogenic fungi, P. microspora possessed a greater number of CAZy genes than 22 and was especially enriched in GH and AA genes. A total of 845 transcription factors and 86 secondary metabolism gene clusters were predicted, representing various types. Furthermore, 28 effectors and 109 virulence-enhanced factors were identified using the PHI (pathogen host-interacting) database. CONCLUSION: This complete genome sequence analysis of the kiwifruit postharvest rot pathogen P. microspora enriches our understanding its disease pathogenesis and virulence. This study establishes a theoretical foundation for future investigations into the pathogenic mechanisms of P. microspora and the development of enhanced strategies for the efficient management of kiwifruit postharvest rots.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Emotional labor is an essential component of nursing practice and is important for Generation Z nursing students born from the mid-1990s to early 2010s. They will become the backbone of the nursing workforce but present more emotional regulation problems. Studies on emotional labor are limited to clinical nurses and influencing factors at the individual level. The impacts of external systems on emotional labor of nursing students have not been explored. This study aimed to quantify the relationship between early clinical exposure and emotional labor and test the moderating effect of family structure on the relationship. METHODS: The cross-sectional study recruited 467 nursing students using convenience sampling from seven colleges and universities in mainland China. An e-survey created on WJX.CN was used to collect data in January 2023. Emotional labor (surface acting and deep acting) was measured with the Emotional Labor scale. Early clinical exposure (exposure or not and times of exposure) and family structure (nuclear family, extended family, and single-parent family) were assessed with self-reported questions. Descriptive statistics and the linear mixed-effects modeling were used to do the analyses. RESULTS: The mean scores of surface acting and deep acting were 26.66 ± 5.66 and 13.90 ± 2.40, respectively. A significant difference in scores of surface acting was not observed for exposure or not, whereas such a significant difference was found for times of exposure. Nursing students from extended families demonstrated significantly lower scores on surface acting while exposed to clinical practice compared with those from nuclear families. Family structure moderated the relationship between times of exposure and surface acting of nursing students when exposed to clinical practice for one time, but the significance disappeared when the times of exposure increased. No significant findings of early clinical exposure on deep acting were observed. CONCLUSIONS: Early clinical exposure influenced emotional labor, and students from extended families were more likely to get benefits from early clinical exposure. Studies are needed to help students from nuclear families get comparable benefits on emotional labor as those from extended families, and improve deep acting by early clinical exposure.

RESUMEN

Ferroptosis is a novel form of programmed cell death caused by damage to lipid membranes due to the accumulation of lipid peroxides in response to various stimuli, such as high levels of iron, oxidative stress, metabolic disturbance, etc. Sugar, lipid, amino acid, and iron metabolism are crucial in regulating ferroptosis. The solute carrier transporters (SLCs) family, known as the "metabolic gating" of cells, is responsible for transporting intracellular nutrients and metabolites. Recent studies have highlighted the significant role of SLCs family members in ferroptosis by controlling the transport of various nutrients. Here, we summarized the function and mechanism of SLCs in ferroptosis regulated by ion, metabolic control of nutrients, and multiple signaling pathways, with a focus on SLC-related transporters that primarily transport five significant components: glucose, amino acid, lipid, trace metal ion, and other ion. Furthermore, the potential clinical applications of targeting SLCs with ferroptosis inducers for various diseases, including tumors, are discussed. Overall, this paper delves into the novel roles of the SLCs family in ferroptosis, aiming to enhance our understanding of the regulatory mechanisms of ferroptosis and identify new therapeutic targets for clinical applications.

RESUMEN

Pulmonary sequestration with torsion is a rare condition. We describe a seven-month-old baby presenting excessive crying for pulmonary sequestration with torsion. Contrast-enhanced chest computed tomography demonstrated an oval-shaped mass in the posteromedial right lower chest, no systemic arterial supply was evident. The edge of the mass showed slight linear reinforcement, and its interior had no reinforcement. Thoracoscopic segmentectomy was carried out and histology confirmed pulmonary sequestration with torsion.
