RESUMEN

We propose a method to evaluate the Total Harmonic Distortion generated by a cantilever-based PZT loudspeaker inside an IEC 60318-4 coupler. The model is validated using experimental data of a commercial loudspeaker. Using the time domain equations of the equivalent electrical circuit of the loudspeaker inside the coupler and a state space formulation, the acoustic pressure response is calculated and compared to the measurement of the manufacturer. Next, the stiffness, transduction and capacitance nonlinear functions are evaluated with a Double-Beam Laser Interferometer (DBLI) and a nanoindenter on test devices and on the commercial loudspeaker. By introducing the nonlinear functions into the model as amplitude-dependent parameters, the THD generated by the loudspeaker is calculated and compared to the value provided by the manufacturer. The good agreement between the measurement and the simulation could allow for a rather quick simulation of the performance of similarly designed loudspeakers at the early stage of the design, by only estimating the static linearity of the main nonlinearity sources.

RESUMEN

Electrical aging in lead zirconate titanate (PbZrxTi1-xO3) thin films has been intensively studied from a macroscopic perspective. However, structural origins and consequences of such degradation are less documented. In this study, we have used synchrotron radiation to evaluate the behavior of ferroelectric domains by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The sample was loaded with an AC triangular bias waveform between ±10 V with a number of cycle varying from one up to 108. At each step of the aging procedure, XRD spectra had been collected in situ during the application of an electric field on a capacitor. The fine analysis of the (200) pseudo-cubic peak structure allows to separate the evolution of the volume of a/c tetragonal and rhombohedral domains along the electrical biasing. Throughout the aging, both intrinsic and extrinsic responses of tetra and rhombohedral domains are altered, the behavior depending on the observed phase. This methodology opens up new perspectives in the comprehension of the aging effect in ferroelectric thin film.

RESUMEN

We present a study of adsorbate screening of surface charge in microscopic ferroelectric domains in a sol-gel grown PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3 thin film. Low-energy and photoemission electron microscopies were employed to characterize the temperature dependence of surface charge and polarization of ferroelectric domains written by atomic force microscopy. We study the role of charged adsorbates in screening of polarization-bound charges. We demonstrate that full-field electron microscopy is suitable for the determination of ferroelectric system properties such as the Curie temperature.

RESUMEN

Wafer-scale arrays of well-ordered Pb(Zr(0.2)Ti(0.8))O3 nanodiscs and nanorings were fabricated on the entire area (10 mm x 10 mm) of the SrRuO3 bottom electrode on an SrTiO3 single-crystal substrate using the laser interference lithography (LIL) process combined with pulsed laser deposition. The shape and size of the nanostructures were controlled by the amount of PZT deposited through the patterned holes and the temperature of the post-crystallization steps. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy confirmed that (001)-oriented PZT nanostructures were grown epitaxially on the SrRuO3(001) bottom electrode layer covering the (001)-oriented single-crystal substrate. The domain structures of PZT nano-islands were characterized by reciprocal space mapping using synchrotron x-ray radiation. Ferroelectric properties of each PZT nanostructure were characterized by scanning force microscopy in the piezoresponse mode.

RESUMEN

Spatially separated ZnO pillars, typically 300 nm in diameter and 2 microm in height, are fabricated via a template-directed approach that leads to long-range hexagonal order. The templates of Au nanodisk arrays are obtained by using metal membranes as a lithography mask. The growth of ZnO pillars is performed in a double-tube system through vapor diffusion-deposition. The growth mechanism of the pillars is studied in detail and is proposed to be a combination of vapor-liquid-solid and vapor-solid models. The piezoelectric and optical properties of single pillars are characterized using piezoresponse force microscopy and micro-photoluminescence spectroscopy, respectively. The pillars show strong excitonic emissions up to room temperature, which indicate a relatively low defect density and good crystalline quality. The obtained piezoelectric coefficient d(33) is (7.5+/-0.6) pm V(-1), which is to our knowledge the first reported value for a single nanopillar.
