RESUMEN

The efficacy and safety of the nasally administered drug Allergodil in the treatment of allergic rhinitis were evaluated in a prospective drug monitoring programme conducted in Germany. Data from 489 children under the age 13 were included. The study was designed to gain knowledge about Allergodil in a normal clinical setting. Dosing was at the judgement of the investigator bearing in mind data sheet recommendations, i.e. one spray-puff (0.14 mg) per nostril twice daily. Patients were treated for four weeks. The occurrence of ten nasal, eye and throat symptoms was rated (0 = never, 1 = sometimes, 2 = often). All symptoms showed a statistically significant improvement at the final visit, as did the overall sums of the scores. These changes were clinically significant. Overall assessment of efficacy by the physicians and the patients was very good and good in more than 85% of patients. 70% of patients required no concomitant medication. 13.5% of patients experienced adverse events, mostly mild or moderate in severity. Safety and tolerance were assessed as very good and good in more than 97% of cases. No sedation was seen. With respect to both efficacy and safety, there were no differences between patients younger than 6 years and those aged 6-12 years. In conclusion, these results suggest that Allergodil is an effective treatment of the symptoms of allergic rhinitis in children. The subgroup of 48 young patients studied shows that Allergodil was safe and well tolerated in patients aged 2-6 years.

RESUMEN

21 patients suffering from chronic urticaria were treated with Ketotifen (2 X 1 mg/d) for 4 weeks. The suppression of weals and pruritus, the side effects in comparison with antihistamines, as well as the effect after finishing therapy have been studied. Ketotifen has a good suppressing effect on weals and pruritus. The general tolerance of the preparation is good, as well. Thus Ketotifen may be regarded as an additional possibility concerning treatment of chronic urticaria.

RESUMEN

By the quantitative acetylcholine-test, described in details, the threshold amount of acetylcholine is determined, which after inhalation is able to provoke bronchial obstruction just measureable. By double-determinations nearly identical results are obtained. Errors may result from the patient's non-cooperation, especially in young children and from unexact dosage of acetylcholine by the nebulizer. There exists a circadian periodicity of bronchial reactivity having its climax in the night an the early morning. Therefore the test should be performed always at the same hour in the morning.

RESUMEN

79 children with classical collagenoses, streptococcaldiseases, arthralgia of unclear genesis and infection arthritis as well as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and 25 normal children were submitted to an intracutaneous allergentest with various collecting extracts (legumens and cereals, house allergens, vegetables). Positive reactions to cereals in a high percentage were observed only in patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and fewer also in children with unclear arthralgia and infection arthritis.

RESUMEN

After having described the bases of dactyloscopy, the authors report on the clinical importance of this method in gynecology and obstetrics. Own results about Turner's syndrome and first experiences of the dactyloscopic examination of mothers of malformed infants are discussed. The patients with XO Turner's syndrome in our series have a ridge count of 181, comparable to the value of 178, 6 observed by Penrose. Mothers of infants with congenital malformations have no different dactyloscopic features in comparison with the controls.
