RESUMEN

The authors recall the traumatic etiology of the so-called "fat C2" and describe a non traumatic origin of this radiological sign in a case of unusual ossification of the C2 body.

RESUMEN

We examined, out of a total of 539 gastrectomies, 50 suture insufficiencies in respect of localisation and size, period elapsed since surgery, and duration of manifestation. The quality of the examination was assessed and compared with the diagnostic information supplied. Only 70% of the insufficiencies were detected within the first five days. A leak can occur as late as one month after surgery (maximum period). One-quarter of the insufficiencies were detected during repeat examinations. Hence, the indication for further follow-up checks should be liberal if there is any clinical suspicion. Insufficiencies of oesophagojejunal anastomosis predominate (37). These are followed by the insufficiencies of the blind closed jejunum loop. There is no noticeable influence of the quality of examination (within the range of variation at our institute) on the diagnosis of the insufficiency.

RESUMEN

A new artificial total hip joint was designed and tested in animals and human patients up to five years. For implant combined carbon material (Endocarbone) was used. The primary anchorage was achieved by a hydraulic pin system without bone cement. The follow-up of bone growth at the implant bone border line was proved by X-ray, computer-tomography, arthrography and histo-morphological tissues. The Endocarbone hip prosthesis has been proved as a biological implant. The good bonely incorporation justifies a more intensive clinical testing.

RESUMEN

The computer tomographic appearances of space-occupying lesions in the renal pelvis in 15 patients are described, and the place of CT in the radiological diagnosis is discussed. The clinical symptoms of renal tumours are often not characteristic, and conventional radiological methods frequently produce nonspecific appearances. Computed tomography, which is non-invasive, is therefore a suitable method for diagnosing space-occupying lesions in the renal pelvis at an early stage. Prognosis depends greatly on extra-pelvic spread, which can be demonstrated by CT alone.

RESUMEN

The application of monocontrast arthrography in examining the ankle joint is demonstrated by means of an extensive series of examinations. It is evident that this method of examination is more reliable than x-ray films of the forced extreme joint position, especially in combined injuries of the ligamentous apparatus, so that it enables better planning of the necessary therapeutic procedure.

RESUMEN

It is shown that radioactive iodine therapy is an alternative method in the treatment even of large goitres provided this method of treatment is confined to patients beyond the age of 40. If the patient is generally inoperable, this is in fact the method of choice. The success rate can be compared with that of other methods of treatment. In this connection, special attention is drawn to the high rate of alleviation of complaints. No significant side effects are seen; in a few cases only, treatment will have to be repeated.

RESUMEN

The visualisation of the papillary renal adenoma is demonstrated on the basis of a case report, using the classical and modern x-ray methods including sonography. However, it is only the on-target puncture which enables an accurate diagnosis of the type of adenoma.
