The results of these experiments demonstrate that extracorporeal ultraviolet and red coherent blood irradiation make the energetics of erythrocyte membrane broken. This deviation has been manifested in changing of erythrocyte's form. The degree of these disorders and of inertia of the recovering process of the erythrocyte's form was greater under ultraviolet blood irradiation.

Endomyocardial biopsy along with right heart catheterization was first performed in 12 patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis complicated by transient or sustained pulmonary hypertension. Light and electron microscopic findings showed signs of severe myocardial dystrophy in 7 patients and prevalent hypertrophy in the remaining patients. Endomyocardial biopsy provided valuable information on the state of the myocardium, yielding evidence for the heretogeneous nature of right ventricular myocardial changes. Two morphological variants of cor pulmonale--hypertrophic and dystrophic--could be identified with regard to the findings.

The analysis of endomyocardial biopsies (10 specimens) and clinical observations suggests the conclusion: myocardial lesions in OPD patients with pulmonary hypertension are due to metabolic and hemodynamic disturbances. In addition to myocardial hypertrophy, myocardial dystrophy contributes to development of cor pulmonale.

An experiment on 6 green monkeys and on 286 cotton newly born rats was made with the aim of studying the lung during experimental adenovirus infection. All the animals during different terms of infection (from 6 hours and up to 40 days) have been studied. Several morphological changes were discovered in the lungs of monkeys and rats after 6 hours of infection and were retained up to the 10-th day of infection. All the components of air-blood barrier and basal membranes were involved in the process, but after 20 day of the experimental adenovirus infection the entire restoration of cellular structure occurred.

Changes in the liver structure and morphology have been examined by means of light optic and transmissive electron microscopy in 12 patients with obstructive jaundice before and after blood purification. The findings permit a conclusion that in mechanical jaundice the methods for extracorporeal purification of the blood do not directly influence the pattern of the underlying condition of the liver, though promote a stabilization of the structural changes in the hepatocytes and prevent their augmentation; this recommends an earlier employment of extracorporeal purification of the blood in this condition.

Examinations of nodular forms of euthyroid and thyrotoxic strumas established direct relationshps between the level of hydrolytic and oxidative-reductive enzymes under study and the ultrastructural organization of the tissue. A marked decrease of the functional activity in nodes of euthyroid goiter was found whereas high functional activity was observed in nodes of thyrotoxic strumas.

Histochemical study of the activity of the redox and hydrolytic enzymes in the immunocompetent cells of the lungs of guinea pigs following intratracheal immunization with complete typhoid antigen demonstrated that following a single immunization at the initial periods elevation of the activity of AP, LDH, NAD- and NADP-diaphorases was seen in the macrophages; later GDH, G-6-PDH and AP was activated in the plasma cells. Double immunization was followed by an earlier and more intensive increase of the enzymatic activity in the cells under study.
