RESUMEN

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs with a wide distribution in nature among the living things. They play a key role both in normal signaling pathways and in pathological ones. Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) is an oncogenic retrovirus of Deltaretrovirus genus causing persistent infection in its natural hosts - cattle, zebu and water buffalo with diverse clinical manifestations through the defeat of B-lymphocytes (B-cells). Ten BLV encoded miRNAs (further miRs-B) transcribed from five different pre-miRNA (further pre-miR-B) genes are abundantly detected in BLV infected B-cells. Here we report about several alleles of each of pre-miRs-B' genes, some of which have a highly significant association with an increase or a decrease of the number of leukocytes (WBCs - white blood cells) in BLV-infected cows.

RESUMEN

Priority health indices (the morbidity rate, the resistance status, the physical development, the orthopedic status, the level of bone mineralization, functional reserves of the body, health groups) in schoolchildren aged 7-18 years with a different state of the musculoskeletal system (MSS), learning in secondary schools were studied with the aim of the development of prevention programs. The high incidence of MSS diseases was determined to be combined with a high level of overall morbidity rate, on separate classes--with diseases of the nervous, endocrine, digestive systems, increasing with age ofthe student. Comprehensive assessment of health is much worse in schoolchildren with functional MSS diseases, as well as in girls. This demonstrates the need for careful monitoring of these children by experts in different fields, differentiated prescription, prevention and wellness programs throughout all the period of schooling.

RESUMEN

Four polyhydroxylated steroids, new (20R)-5alpha-cholestan-3beta,6alpha,8,15alpha,24,26-hexaol (I) and known (20R,25S)-5alpha-cholestan-3beta6alpha,8,15beta,16beta,26-hexaol, (20R,25S)-5alpha-cholestan-3beta,6alpha,15beta,16beta,26-pentaol, and marthasterone sulfate were isolated from the Solaster endeca starfish inhabiting the Sea of Okhotsk and characterized. Steroid (I) contains a 24,26-dihydroxylated side chain, which is uncommon for starfish polyols. The isolated steroids and related metabolites from two starfish species of the Evasterias genus (in total, 15 compounds) were weakly cytotoxic in a human HeLa cell culture and some of them were inhibitors of nonspecific esterase from mouse Ehrlich carcinoma. The effects of these compounds on the p53 protein activity were studied in a yeast two-hybrid test system and both inhibitors and stimulators of this activity were found among them.

RESUMEN

A new method for measuring serum and tissue antioxidative activity is based on a relationship between accumulation of lipid peroxidation (LPO) products in incubation medium and the amount of the substrate during LPO activation. The ratio of malonic dialdehyde accumulation during LPO activation in two samples of different volumes is proposed as an index of antioxidative activity.
