Study of the prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) markers in 153 patients of Municipal Infectious Diseases Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Novosibirsk revealed anti-HCV in 88.2% patients and viral RNA in 69.3% samples. For 93 Siberian HCV isolates 5'-UTR regions were amplified and sequenced. Comparison of these nucleotide sequences with databank showed that 63.4% HCV isolates belonged to subtype 1b, 7.5% to genotype 2, and 18.3% to genotype 3. In the rest HCV isolates the 5'-UTR sequences contained heretofore undescribed nucleotide substitutions, insertions, or deletions.

Comparative analysis of the characteristics of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) strain 205 used for the production of vaccine against TBE and of its variants obtained by passages in mouse brain showed the stability of such properties as infective activity, neurovirulence, sensitivity to physical (heating to 50 C) and chemical (sodium deoxycholate treatment) factors. At the same time increased neurovirulence of variants 205/M10 and 205/M20, which undergone through 10 and 20 passages in white mouse brain, for low-sensitive Syrian hamsters was revealed. Use of a panel of 5 monoclonal antibodies to protein E and of 4 monoclonal antibodies to protein E and of 4 monoclonal antibodies to protein NS3 helped differentiate between not only strains 205 and Sofyin, but between variants of strain 205 as well.

Changes observed in functional activity of thiodisulphide antioxidant system (TD AOS) in leukemia patients' blood are shown to depend in intensity and direction on the disease course and efficacy of relevant treatment. TD AOS parameters which reflect body defenses may serve additional criteria in the control of the treatment intensity.

The method of rocket immunoelectrophoresis permits the detection of all antigenic admixtures in tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) vaccine. Human serum albumin constitutes the main part of protein admixtures in the preparation. Purification by microfiltration is an effective stage of the technological process of obtaining purified TBE vaccine.

Tick-borne encephalitis virus strain 205 was characterized by such sign as the presence of negative colonies. In the swine fibroblast cell line the population of the strain was represented mainly by large plaque (67.3%). Medium-sized plaques prevailed in chick embryo fibroblast cell culture. Protamine sulfate and magnesium chloride reduced the period of incubation, increased the resolving capacity of the plaque method and the proportion of medium- and small-sized plaques. Agarose B rendered the virus colonies less contrasting. The production strain and the clones of its population were found to have pronounced reproductive and protective properties. The S+ variants of the virus exhibited the highest reproductiveness.

The 10466 nucleotide long sequence of the cDNA copy of the tick-borne encephalitis strain 205 viral genome has been determined. It includes the 5'-nontranslating region, the genes for structural as well as nonstructural proteins and the first 93 nucleotides of 3'-nontranslating region. The difference in amino acid sequences of structural and nonstructural proteins of strains 205. Sofjin and Neudoerfl of the tick-borne encephalitis virus and the nucleotide changes in 5'- and 3'-nontranslating of these strains are discussed.

The characterization of such properties of tick-borne encephalitis virus strain 205 and its clones as virulence, thermal stability and sensitivity to 2.5 M urea was obtained. The following combination of the genetic markers of strain 205 was established: mNic+, mNsc+, T50+, Ur. The clones possessed pronounced virulence, but showed different heat sensitivity (T50+, T50 +/-) and resistance to the action of urea (Ur and U +/-). At the early terms of observation, the clone isolated from a large viral plaque was more antigen-active.

The nucleotide sequences of the cDNAs of the genes for the structural proteins C, preM, M and E of the tick-borne encephalitis viral strain 205 have been determined. The complete nucleotide sequence of the 5'-end nonstructural region of the viral genome has been studied for the first time. The difference in the amino acids sequences of the structural proteins from different strains (205, Sofiin and Neidorf) of the virus is discussed.

The oxidation-reduction equilibrium shifting after the introduction of natrium nitrate (NN) has a duration related effect. A single NN introduction in a toxic dosage decreases the force of the blood's thioldisulfide and ascorbate systems (AOS). On the contrary, processes in the liver of laboratory animals are marked by a tendency towards growing AOS activity due to an increase in the reduced forms of thiol enzymes and ascorbic acid content. The process of subtoxic dosage action of natrium nitrate is characterized by decreased volume of the enzyme deoxidation thioldisulfide system of the liver.

It has been shown in the experiment with albino rats that the prolonged influence of stable noise (90 dB) results in a shift of the redox equilibrium in the thiol-disulphide and ascorbate systems of the adrenal gland and myocardium tissues towards oxidation and the activity of glucoso-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and superoxide dismutase decreases. A concept on the pathogenetic role of the redox equilibrium disturbance in the thiol-disulphide system, in particular, in the development of noise pathology is suggested.

Some patterns of the antioxidant system were altered in rat blood and tissues after treatment with noise of 90 dB. Phase alterations were found in content of SH- and SS-groups, in ascorbate-dependent redox balance as well as in activity of glutathione reductase, glucose-6-phosphate- and lactate dehydrogenases. These data suggest that the antioxidant system is of importance in the adaptation reactions. Administration of antioxidant drugs (unitol, ascorbic acid and tocopherol) normalized the antioxidant drugs (unitol, ascorbic acid and tocopherol) normalized the antioxidant system patterns studied. These drugs could be used to enhance the nonspecific body resistance to noise stress.
