RESUMEN

The somatotype was determined of 247 healthy students of medicine, male Bulgarians, average age 22, according to the method of Heath and Carter. More than half of the examined subjects (55,9%) was established to belong to the group of mesomorphy with a predomination of the subgroup of endomorphic mesomorphy. The other morphological structures are presented in comparatively identical shares. The fatty body mass, being 16,29 per cent of the total body mass of the subjects studied was determined to the same subjects according to the method of Möhr and Milev. It was established that the fatty body mass was within the physiological limits among the students from the group of ectomorphy and from the group with balanced mesomorphy, non-manifested obesity had the subjects with ectomorphic endomorphy, endomorphic mesomorphy and with central somatotype and with manifested obesity--the students with balanced and mesomorphic endomorphy.

RESUMEN

Ninety nine patients with hyperlipoproteinemia (HLP) were examined--type IIA--48; type IIB--36 and type IV--15. The patients were put, in the course of 25 days, on a combined dietetic regimen, including fruit foodstuffs, enriched with high-esterified pectin, soy-bean meal and skimmed yoghourt "Vita". The patients with type IIA HLP have almost a normal body mass (BM) and the body composition is not substantially changed under the treatment effect, whereas in the patients with type IIB HLP--a considerable lipid mass (LP) was found with rather low relative BM. The patients with type IV HLP are with the highest relative BM and the most pronounced reduction resulting from the treatment. The combined dietetic regimen leads to favourable changes in the body composition in patients with HLP types IIB and IV--reduction of LP and increase of the ratio active BM/LM.

RESUMEN

The problem of the extent to which changes in endocrine glands in case of protein or fatty deficiency are reversible has a great theoretical and practical bearing. Its elucidation appears to be particularly relevant in the management of the various forms of deficient feeding where restored whole-food diets exert a pronounced therapeutical effect. However, literature data on the issue are very scanty and rather dissenting. The structural changes in adenohypophysis, thyroidea, adrenals and sex glands were studied in 72 albino rats of the Wistar line which, following treatment with a diet poor in proteins and fats, were subjected to a recovery regimen by feeding them whole-food diets. For the purpose, histomorphological and histochemical tests were used. It was established that while in the animals deprived of fats, realimentation estrored the mophological profile of all the glands under study, among the rats fed protein poor diets, irreversible tissue changes were found in the adrenals and gonads. The results obtained are related to the direct action of the nutrient deficit, or to its deleterious effect on the tropic secretion of the hypophysis.
