RESUMEN

The morphological features of chronic viral hepatitis C were studied on specimens from 33 autopsy cases of heroinomania. A comparison group was presented with liver biopsy specimens taken in 17 cases corresponding to those of the study drug non-abusers diagnosed as having chronic viral hepatitis C. Chronic viral hepatitis C in drug abusers as compared to drug non-abusers was characterized by more pronounced hepatocytic dystrophic changes, less significant inflammatory infiltration of the portal tracts, a higher incidence of cholestasis with reactive changes in the epithelium of the biliary tract, fibrosis of the central venous walls. On immunohistochemical detection of hepatitis C virus NS3 antigen, an immunohistochemical reaction was less evident in the drug-abusers than in non-abusers, which showed the less replicative activity of hepatitis C virus in the liver of drug-abusers, which was caused by pronounced hepatocytic dystrophic changes and secondary immunodeficiency.

RESUMEN

The spread of viral hepatitis C and B and of HIV was studied among the intravenous drug consumers (IDC) on the basis of 42 forensic-medical autopsies. The enzyme immune-assay (EIA) of blood serum showed, in 95.2% of cases, antibodies to hepatitis C virus, antibodies to HbsAg and HIV were registered in 11.9% in both cases. The possibilities of using the autopsy-blood serum for EIA-diagnosis of viral hepatitis and HIV were demonstrated. Morphological examinations of IDC showed, in them, chronic hepatitis (CH) of minimal, weakly-pronounced and moderate activities. Viral CH in HIV infected IDCs is characterized by a minimal and small-pronounced activity of the process and it is not different, according to its activity, from viral CH in IDCs without HIV.

RESUMEN

The autopsy material from the thymus, spleen and bifurcation tracheal lymph nodes from 34 drug addicts who died because of heroin overdosing were studied. Morphin and heroin components were found in all tissues and fluids investigated. The enzyme immunoassay identified antibodies to hepatitis C virus in blood serum. The control group consisted of 12 cases who died of mechanic asphyxia and severe trauma. Morphologically, the livers from all cases were affected with chronic viral hepatitis of minimal-moderate activity. Accidental involution of the thymus, depletion of the cortical layer, hyperplasia of lymphoid follicles in the lymph nodes; prevailing follicles of type 1 in the spleen were found.

RESUMEN

Section specimens from subjects dead from narcotic poisoning in 1998-1999 are analyzed. The results indicate that narcotic poisonings were primarily due to opiates or their combinations with other drugs (primarily ethanol). The ratio of male to female mortality was 3:1. Death after narcotic poisoning occurs at home in the majority of cases. The concentration of morphine/heroin in the blood and urine of victims varied within a very wide range. Acute renal failure, myoglobulinuremic nephrosis, and compression syndrome are not typical of acute narcotic poisoning. Use of immunotest for urinary morphine-heroin deserves further investigation.

RESUMEN

The pituitary was examined in patients with craniocerebral injuries who died in hospital in various periods after treatment. Control group consisted of victims died at the site of accident. The results indicate the significance of examining the pituitary in craniocerebral injuries for the diagnosis of thanatogenesis, particularly in patients died in hospital. Causes of traumatic changes in the organ were determined, highly incident in the practice of forensic medical experts: directly during injury, as a result of skull bone fractures; during development of dislocation syndrome and in disorders of blood and lymph circulation in the brain matter; resultant from augmenting traumatic edema of the brain.
