RESUMEN

A study was made of the effect of prostaglandin F2 alpha on submicroscopic and histochemical structure of the yellow bodies and progesterone concentration in peripheral blood plasma in the pre-implantation period of embryonal development. Electron microscopy, radioimmunoassay and histochemical technique were applied. Apart from the signs of steroidogenesis preservation in luteocytes of the control group yellow bodies (during elevation of prostaglandin F2 alpha concentration in the body), there was a significant reduction of the activity in them of the key enzyme of the steroidogenesis, 3-beta-steroid dehydrogenase. Attention is paid to variation of the capillary system of the yellow bodies, induced by prostaglandin F2 alpha. This variation was marked by the absence of fenestration and by reactive status of endotheliocytes. It is concluded that prostaglandin F2 alpha primarily affects functional properties of steroid-producing cells. The authors suggest that there are potential links between the reduced progesterone level in peripheral blood plasma and submicroscopic changes in luteic cells and yellow body capillaries.

RESUMEN

Radioimmunological method was applied to the study of progesteron and 17 beta-estradiol profiles in the peripheral blood plasma of pregnant mice from the time of the zygote formation (the 1st day of gestation) to the blastocyst implantation (the 5th day of gestation). The peak of a progesteron concentration in the plasma and the onset of reduction in the 17 beta-estradiol concentration were noted in the evening of the 3rd day of pregnancy. From this period there was a fall in the 17 beta-estradiol and progesterone content in the blood plasma. In the evening of the 3rd day of pregnancy the 14-18-cell embryos passed from the oviduct into the uterine cornu. The role played by the embryo in changes of the maternal hormonal status is discussed.

RESUMEN

The effect of prostaglandin F2 alpha (at a dose of 2 mg/kg, per each stage of development) on the mouse preimplantation development and 17 beta-estradiol concentration in the blood plasma was studied. Prostaglandin F2 alpha caused inhibition of mitoses in the embryo and decreased the percentage of embryos liberated from zona pellucida. Meanwhile blood plasma showed diminution of 17 beta-estradiol level as a result of administering prostaglandin F2 alpha. In physiological conditions a significant rise in 17 beta-estradiol level was recorded at the stage of blastocyst liberated from zona pellucida.

RESUMEN

Prostaglandin F2alpha in vivo and in vitro effects were studied in mouse embryos at different developmental stages. Inhibiting effect of this factor on cell reproduction (cleavage) was demonstrated, and in vivo experiments the process of the embryo release from the zona pellucida was also investigated. The studies were carried out in a large statistically significant material with an adequate mathematical processing of the data obtained. The critical point of the greatest sensitivity in the embryo to prostaglandin F2alpha effect was determined--the morula stage (16 cells).

RESUMEN

Two unusual cases of early embryogenesis are described: a giant cleaving egg and the presence of two generations of embryos in the genital tract of a female--at the stage of implantation and at the stage of two blastomeres. The ability of development of the second generation was tested in vitro experiments.
