RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Patients with Glycogen Storage Disease type II (GSDII), an inheritable metabolic myopathy also known as Pompe disease, are considered to be at risk for severe COVID-19 due to a reduced respiratory function and a tendency to be overweight. However, so far little is known about the course of SARS-CoV-2 infection and side effects of COVID-19 vaccinations in patients with GSDII. METHODS: 169 Dutch Pompe patients are followed at the Erasmus MC Rotterdam. During the COVID-19 pandemic patients were requested to directly inform their physicians about SARS-CoV-2 infection. Infected patients were interviewed regularly by telephone until their symptoms subsided. Furthermore, all patients eligible for vaccination on 16-7-2021 (≥ 17 years, n = 122) were asked to complete a questionnaire. RESULTS: To date, fifteen patients (8.9% of our cohort) reported a SARS-CoV-2 infection (classic infantile Pompe disease n = 5, late onset n = 10). No patients were admitted to hospital or needed intensivation of ventilatory support. All patients made a recovery within 19 days. 41.8% of patients filled in our questionnaire regarding vaccination, of whom 98% were vaccinated. Besides one case of perimyocarditis, only mild side effects were reported. CONCLUSION: Overall, patients with Pompe disease showed mild symptoms from infection with SARS-CoV-2. All patients made a full recovery. Side effects after vaccination were mostly mild.

RESUMEN

Structural analogues of natural flavonoids and flavolignans - new 2'-OAc-chalcones and 2-hetaryl-3-aminochromons with the remnants of a 6-halogen-1,3-benzodioxane, 1,4-benzodioxane and 1,5-benzodioxepan were synthesized. Structure of the obtained compounds was confirmed by the 1H NMR data.

RESUMEN

A series of phytoecodysteroids, including alpha-ecdysone, 2-deoxy-alpha-ecdysone, and 2-deoxyecdysterone isolated from Silene praemixta, integristerone A and ecdysterone isolated from Rhaponticum carthamoides and 22-acetylcyasterone and turkesterone isolated from Ajuga turkestanica, exhibit a pronounced hypoglycemic effect in experiments on intact male rats. The most active compounds--ecdysteron and turkesterone--also produce an expressed hypoglycemic effect in animals with model hyperglycemia induced by the administration of glucose, adrenalin and alloxan. Phytoecdysteroids are substances possessing protein-anabolic activity and are somewhat similar to steranobols in this aspect. Phytoecdysteroids exhibit unidirectional effect and are well comparable with steranabol actionon the carbohydrate metabolism.

RESUMEN

The analysis of 40 histories of disease of the patients with histologically confirmed diagnosis of classical KS for the period from 1991 to 2006 has shown, that under conditions of our region the clinical picture of classical KS undergoes changes. The first signs of disease are registered at 35% of the patients at the age under 50 years, among the first manifestations of disease in 20% of cases the swellings meet, 17,5% have variants with atypical localization on the face, head, neck, there are cases of transition of chronic process into subacute with absence of correlation between prevalence of process and acuteness of its development. The average age of the patients to the beginning of disease was 49,6 years.

RESUMEN

The attenuation of the tolerability of HIV-infected patients to the infectious agents leads to the development of frequent relapses both primary pyoderma and secondary bacterial complications of dermatoses of unclear nature that aggravates current status of the main disease. Regarding about mention data, the study of biotype spectrum of infectious agents in pustular skin lesions and their resistance patterns to antibacterial preparations in patients with pyoderma and with different HIV status is of great interest. The article presents comparative results of the study of bacterial composition in the pus of 124 patients with pyoderma and HIV infection and in 70 patients with pyoderma but without HIV. It is possible on the basis of results of the analysis to note high frequency of identification of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus haemolyticus in persons without HIV infection and both primary and secondary pyoderma with the further decrease in strains in similar patients with HIV. All patients with pustular skin lesions were found to have a wide spectrum of pathogens prevalence of which depends both on HIV-status of a patient and clinical form of pyoderma. HIV-positive patients with primary pyoderma have a frequency rate of isolation of infectious agents in mixed cultures considerably higher (10 times) than this parameter in HIV-negative patients. The same tendency is observed in the analysis of cultivation rate of pathogens in patients with secondary pyoderma. However, in HIV positive patients the cultivation rate of mixed cultures increases by 2,5 times.

RESUMEN

Depending on energy, spatial-temporal, modulation and other characteristics of an electromagnetic field, properties of a subject, exposure settings and possible interaction of other attendant factors microwaves may have either stabilizing, wholesome and even therapeutic or negative (damaging) effects on biological and ecological objects and systems. Therefore, there are two interrelated problems to be addressed. One is electromagnetic safety of and health provisions for humans exposed to EMF and EMR and the other, effective utilization of microwave EMF and EMR for biomedical and other purposes associated with enhancement of viability of organisms. The light-oxygen effect of laser radiation is gaining footing in therapy where it is used to activate or destroy biological systems by optical radiation at a specified light dose. Thus, low-intensity laser radiation can be used to improve viability and high-intensity laser radiation, to treat cancers.

RESUMEN

According to our and other investigators theoretical and experimental dates biophysical effects of microwaves are defined by thermal and specific biological action. Specific influence are realized by more delicate and precise ways and mechanisms of absorption and molecular relaxation of microwave energy, energy-informative interaction of radio-emission with biosystem. It include three mechanisms: synchronisation of oscillatory processes (oscillators) of irradiated object in acting electromagnetic field; selective influence of microwaves on the biomembranes, on nervous and other highly-organized systems of living organism, on the complex formation processes and fermentative activity; resonance phenomena. These mechanisms connected with parameters of acting electromagnetic field and with electrical, magnetic and other properties of biological systems.

RESUMEN

In the paper are presented the data on revealement of cryptosporidian oocysts (Apicomplexa, Sporozoa) in feces of cattle, swine and sheep of different ages and results of the experimental infection of laboratory animals (rats, mice, rabbits, coypus) with the oocysts detected as well. The latters were attributed to Cryptosporidium parvum species. The analysis of the size characteristic in the isolates of naturally and artificially infected hosts has shown that the oocysts dimensions might vary both in different host species and in different individuals of one host species.
