We selectively improved the viewing angle characteristics and light extraction efficiency of blue thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) by tailoring a nanofiber-shaped Si3N4 layer, which was used as an internal scattering layer. The diameter of the polymer nanofibers changed according to the mass ratio of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) in the polymer solution for electrospinning. The Si3N4 nanofiber (SNF) structure was fabricated by etching an Si3N4 film using the PAN/PMMA nanofiber as a mask, making it easier to adjust parameters, such as the diameter, open ratio, and height, even though the SNF structure was randomly shaped. The SNF structures exhibited lower transmittance and higher haze with increasing diameter, showing little correlation with their height. However, all the structures demonstrated a total transmittance of over 80%. Finally, by applying the SNF structures to the blue TADF OLEDs, the external quantum efficiency was increased by 15.6%. In addition, the current and power efficiencies were enhanced by 23.0% and 25.6%, respectively. The internal light-extracting SNF structure also exhibited a synergistic effect with the external light-extracting structure. Furthermore, when the viewing angle changed from 0° to 60°, the peak wavelength and CIE coordinate shift decreased from 20 to 6 nm and from 0.0561 to 0.0243, respectively. These trends were explained by the application of Snell's law to the light path and were ultimately validated through finite-difference time-domain simulations.

Luminous efficiency is a pivotal factor for assessing the performance of optoelectronic devices, wherein light loss caused by diverse factors is harvested and converted into the radiative mode. In this study, we demonstrate a nanoscale vacuum photonic crystal layer (nVPCL) for light extraction enhancement. A corrugated semi-transparent electrode incorporating a periodic hollow-structure array was designed through a simulation that utilizes finite-difference time-domain computational analysis. The corrugated profile, stemming from the periodic hollow structure, was fabricated using laser interference lithography, which allows the precise engineering of various geometrical parameters by controlling the process conditions. The semi-transparent electrode consisted of a 15 nm thick Ag film, which acted as the exit mirror and induced microcavity resonance. When applied to a conventional green organic light-emitting diode (OLED) structure, the optimized nVPCL-integrated device demonstrated a 21.5% enhancement in external quantum efficiency compared to the reference device. Further, the full width at half maximum exhibited a 27.5% reduction compared to that of the reference device, demonstrating improved color purity. This study presents a novel approach by applying a hybrid thin film electrode design to optoelectronic devices to enhance optical efficiency and color purity.

Recently, the application of cobalt iron boron (CoFeB) thin films in magnetic sensors has been widely studied owing to their high magnetic moment, anisotropy, and stability. However, most of these studies were conducted on rigid silicon substrates. For diverse applications of magnetic and angle sensors, it is important to explore the properties of ferromagnetic thin films grown on nonrigid deformable substrates. In this study, representative deformable substrates (polyimide (PI), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)), which can be bent or stretched, were used to assess the in-plane magnetic field angle-dependent properties of amorphous Ta/CoFeB/MgO/Ta thin films grown on deformable substrates. The effects of substrate roughness, tensile stress, deformable substrate characteristics, and sputtering on magnetic properties, such as the coercive field (Hc), remanence over saturation magnetization (Mr/Ms), and biaxial characteristics, were investigated. This study presents an unconventional foundation for exploring deformable magnetic sensors capable of detecting magnetic field angles.

The need for photodetectors in various fields has gradually emerged, and several studies in this area are therefore being conducted. For photodetectors to be used in various environments, their transparency, flexibility, and durability must be ensured. However, the development of flexible photodetectors based on the current measurement techniques of conventional photodetectors has been difficult owing to the limitations of semiconductor materials. In this study, a new type of flexible and transparent capacitive photodetector was fabricated to address the shortcomings of conventional photodetectors. In addition, by introducing graphene electrodes to a new type of manufactured photodetector, devices with excellent overall chemical, thermal, and mechanical durability have been developed. Compared to photodetectors based on pristine Ag nanowire (AgNW) electrodes, AgNW/graphene hybrid electrode-based photodetectors exhibit a 20% higher photosensitivity. Also, the hybrid AgNW/graphene electrode on the dielectric layer exhibited low sheet resistance (~ 8 Ω/sq) and relatively high transmittance (~ 45%).

An appropriate interaction between implanted materials and the surrounding tissue is essential for successful implantation. Titanium (Ti) and some of its alloys have been used in dentistry and orthopedics as a substitutive material for hard tissue, such as teeth or natural bone. Nevertheless, metal ions released from titanium and alloy implants have adverse biological effects on biological tissues or cells. Secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI) promotes cell migration, proliferation and wound healing. FAK and ERK1/2 signaling regulate cell adhesion and proliferation for cell survival. This study evaluated the potential of SLPI as a molecule to increase the cell adhesion on the Ti surface. Compared with the untreated cells, SLPI increased the adhesion of MC3T3-E1 cells to Ti discs, formation of actin stress fibers, paxillin expression and the phosphorylation of FAK. Moreover, SLPI enhanced the level of Grb2 and Ras expression and ERK1/2 phosphorylation in the MC3T3-E1 cells on Ti discs. These results suggest that SLPI can increase the interaction between the implanted Ti material and surrounding bone in orthodontic and dental surgery, making an effective nanomolecule for successful implantation.

Endophytic fungi are little known for their role in gibberellins (GAs) synthesis and abiotic stress resistance in crop plants. We isolated 10 endophytes from the roots of field-grown soybean and screened their culture filtrates (CF) on the GAs biosynthesis mutant rice line - Waito-C. CF bioassay showed that endophyte GMH-1B significantly promoted the growth of Waito-C compared with controls. GMH-1B was identified as Penicillium minioluteum LHL09 on the basis of ITS regions rDNA sequence homology and phylogenetic analyses. GC/MS-SIM analysis of CF of P. minioluteum revealed the presence of bioactive GA(4) and GA(7). In endophyte-soybean plant interaction, P. minioluteum association significantly promoted growth characteristics (shoot length, shoot fresh and dry biomasses, chlorophyll content, and leaf area) and nitrogen assimilation, with and without sodium chloride (NaCl)-induced salinity (70 and 140 mM) stress, as compared with control. Field-emission scanning electron microcopy showed active colonization of endophyte with host plants before and after stress treatments. In response to salinity stress, low endogenous abscisic acid and high salicylic acid accumulation in endophyte-associated plants elucidated the stress mitigation by P. minioluteum. The endophytic fungal symbiosis of P. minioluteum also increased the daidzein and genistein contents in the soybean as compared with control plants, under salt stress. Thus, P. minioluteum ameliorated the adverse effects of abiotic salinity stress and rescued soybean plant growth by influencing biosynthesis of the plant's hormones and flavonoids.

The present study was undertaken to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which glyceollin I inhibits vascular contraction in rat aorta. Rat aortic rings were treated with either glyceollin I or vehicle when vascular contraction reached plateaus. We measured the activity of GTP-RhoA and Rho GTPase-activating protein (RhoGAP) and the phosphorylation level of the myosin light chain (MLC(20)), myosin phosphatase targeting subunit 1 (MYPT1), and PKC-potentiated inhibitory protein for heterotrimeric MLCP of 17 kDa (CPI17). Glyceollin I reduced vascular contraction whether endothelium is present or denuded. Glyceollin I reduced vascular contraction induced by NaF, U46619, phenylephrine, or PDBu. Blockers of K(+) channels did not affect the vasorelaxation induced by glyceollin I. Glyceollin I reduced activation of RhoA as well as phosphorylation level of MLC(20). Glyceollin I also reduced phosphorylation of MYPT1 and CPI17 induced by NaF but not PDBu. However, glyceollin I had no direct effect on RhoGAP activation in vitro. Glyceollin I reduced vascular contraction, at least in part, through inhibition of the RhoA/Rho-kinase signaling pathway.

We isolated 10 endophytic fungi from the roots of drought stressed soybean cultivar Hwangkeumkong and bioassayed on waito-c rice and soybean seedlings, in order to identify plant growth-promoting fungi. The fungal isolate D-2-1 provided the best result for plant height and biomass promotion as compared to wild type Gibberella fujikuroi. The D-2-1 culture filtrate (CF) was analyzed for the presence of gibberellins (GAs) and it was observed that all physiologically active GAs, especially gibberellic acid, were present in higher amounts (GA1, 0.24 ng/ml; GA3, 8.99 ng/ml; GA4, 2.58 ng/ml and GA7, 1.39 ng/ml) in conjunction with physiologically inactive GA5, GA9, GA15, GA19, and GA24. The fungal isolate D-2-1 was identified as a new strain of Chrysosporium pseudomerdarium through phylogenetic analysis of 18S rDNA sequence. Plant growth promotion and GAs production capacity of genus Chrysosporium have been reported for the first time in this study.

We isolated nine endophytic fungi from the roots of saltstressed soybean cultivar Daewonkong and screened them for growth-promoting secondary metabolites. Of all fungal isolates, P-4-3 induced maximum growth promotion of waito-c rice and soybean. Analysis of the culture filtrate of P-4-3 showed the presence of physiologically active gibberellins GA1, GA3, GA4, and GA7, along with physiologically inactive GA15 and GA24. The plant growth promotion and gibberellinproducing capacity of P-4-3 was much higher than wildtype Gibberella fujikuroi, which was taken as the control during the present study. The fungal isolate P-4-3 was identified as a new strain of Scolecobasidium tshawytschae through the morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of 18S rDNA sequence. Gibberellins production and plant growth promoting ability of genus Scolecobasidium was reported for the first time in the present study.

Our research objective was to increase isoflavone content in the germinated soybean seeds of four different varieties (Pungsannamulkong, Cheongjakong, Aga4, and Aga3) by optimizing light treatments (dark, greenhouse, fluorescent, incandescent, and ultraviolet lamps). The results demonstrated that the highest isoflavone content was produced from the Aga3 variety, which was developed by an interspecific cross between Eunhakong (Glycine max) and KLG10084 (G. soja) at the Plant Genetic Laboratory, Kyunpook National University. Aga3 is known to have one of the highest isoflavone content in the world at present. Our results recommend exposure of 7-day-old Aga3 sprouts to a combined light treatment of greenhouse lamps (12 h per day) and ultraviolet light (40 min per day) for maximum isoflavone production. Aga3 produced high levels of isoflavone because, in part, it contained very high isoflavone levels within the seed as compared with the other varieties. Under stress conditions, Aga3 could produce over 1.90 times more isoflavone than its seed content and 1.53 times more isoflavone than when grown under dark conditions.

Isoflavones decrease blood pressure, improve lipid profiles, and restore vascular function. We hypothesized that isoflavone attenuates vascular contraction by inhibiting RhoA/Rho-kinase signaling pathway. Rat aortic rings were denuded of endothelium, mounted in organ baths, and contracted with 11,9 epoxymethano-prostaglandin F(2alpha) (U46619), a thromboxane A2 analog, or KCl 30 min after the pretreatment with genistein (4',5,7-trihydroxyisoflavone), daidzein (4',7-dihydroxyisoflavone), or vehicle. We determined the phosphorylation level of the myosin light chain (MLC(20)), myosin phosphatase-targeting subunit 1 (MYPT1), and protein kinase C-potentiated inhibitory protein for heterotrimeric myosin light-chain phosphatase of 17 kDa (CPI17) by means of the Western blot. We also measured the amount of GTP RhoA as a marker regarding RhoA activation. The cumulative additions of U46619 or KCl increased vascular tension in a concentration-dependent manner, which were inhibited by pretreatment with genistein or daidzein. Both U46619 (30 nM) and KCl (50 mM) increased MLC(20) phosphorylation levels, which were inhibited by genistein and daidzein. Furthermore, both genistein and daidzein decreased the amount of GTP RhoA activated by either U46619 or KCl. U46619 (30 nM) increased phosphorylation of the MYPT1(Thr855) and CPI17(Thr38), which were also inhibited by genistein or daidzein. However, neither genistein nor daidzein inhibited phorbol 12,13-dibutyrate-induced vascular contraction and CPI17 phosphorylation. In conclusion, isoflavone attenuates vascular contraction, at least in part, through inhibition of the RhoA/Rho-kinase signaling pathway.
