RESUMEN

The linearity of active mixers is usually determined by the input transistors, and many works have been proposed to improve it by modified input stages at the cost of a more complex structure or more power consumption. A new linearization method of active mixers is proposed in this paper; the input 1 dB compression point (IP1dB) and output 1 dB compression point (OP1dB) are greatly improved by exploiting the "reverse uplift" phenomenon. Compared with other linearization methods, the proposed one is simpler, more efficient, and sacrifices less conversion gain. Using this method, an ultra-high-linearity double-balanced down-conversion mixer with wide IF bandwidth is designed and fabricated in a 130 nm SiGe BiCMOS process. The proposed mixer includes a Gilbert-cell, a pair of phase-adjusting inductors, and a Marchand-balun-based output network. Under a 1.6 V supply voltage, the measurement results show that the mixer exhibits an excellent IP1dB of +7.2~+10.1 dBm, an average OP1dB of +5.4 dBm, which is the state-of-the-art linearity performance in mixers under a silicon-based process, whether active or passive. Moreover, a wide IF bandwidth of 8 GHz from 3 GHz to 11 GHz was achieved. The circuit consumes 19.8 mW and occupies 0.48 mm2, including all pads. The use of the "reverse uplift" allows us to implement high-linearity circuits more efficiently, which is helpful for the design of 5G high-speed communication transceivers.

Vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation is a key event in the development of hypertension, instant restenosis and other cardiac disorders. Inhibition of this proliferation could lead to better prevention and treatment of these diseases. This study was designed to investigate the effects and mechanisms of different concentrations of xanthinol nicotinate (XN) on human umbilical artery smooth muscle cell (HUASMC) proliferation in vitro. HUASMCs were cultured by the tissue adherent method, passaged three times, and then identified by immunohistochemistry. HUASMCs were then treated with different concentrations of XN (0, 2.76, 27.6 or 276 µM), and a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay was used to detect the inhibition of HUASMC proliferation. The levels of platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR) mRNA and protein (PDGFR-ß) were detected on the cell membrane of these treated HUASMCs using RT-PCR and Western blot analysis, respectively. After culturing and passaging three times, 90 % of the cultured cells were identified as HUASMCs by immunohistochemistry. HUASMC proliferation was inhibited by XN in a dose-dependent manner (P < 0.05). Furthermore, XN dose-dependently decreased the PDGFR mRNA and PDGFR-ß levels on the cell membranes of HUASMCs (P < 0.05). Thus, the results suggest that XN could become a potent therapeutic agent for regulating VSMC-associated vascular disease such as cardiovascular disease and restenosis after angioplasty.

UNLABELLED: ♦ BACKGROUND: Research indicates that the socioeconomic status (SES) of individuals and the area where they live are related to initial peritonitis and outcomes in peritoneal dialysis (PD). We conducted a retrospective, multi-center cohort study in China to examine these associations. ♦ METHODS: Data on 2,171 PD patients were collected from 7 centers, including baseline demographic, socioeconomic, and laboratory data. We explored the potential risk factors for initial peritonitis and outcomes using univariate Cox regression and unadjusted binary logistic regression. Then, we used propensity score matching to balance statistically significant risk factors for initial peritonitis and outcomes, and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis to compare differences in peritonitis-free rates between different groups of participants after matching. ♦ RESULTS: A total of 563 (25.9%) initial episodes of peritonitis occurred during the study period. The Kaplan-Meier peritonitis-free rate curve showed high-income patients had a significantly lower risk than low-income patients (p = 0.007) after matching for age, hemoglobin, albumin, and regional SES and PD center. The risk of treatment failure was significantly lower in the high-income than the low-income group after matching for the organism causing peritonitis and PD center: odds ratio (OR) = 0.27 (0.09 - 0.80, p = 0.018). Regional SES and education were not associated with initial peritonitis and outcomes. ♦ CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates low individual income is a risk factor for the initial onset of peritonitis and treatment failure after initial peritonitis.
