RESUMEN
Ureteritis cystica is a rare disease that must be considered in the differential diagnosis of ureteral and renal pelvic filling defects. The characteristic radiographic findings often regress spontaneously when the process instigating the inflammation is eradicated. However, in our patient radiological findings remained unchanged during a 17-year period in the absence of malignancy or infection. Although it sometimes coexists with cancer, we believe that ureteritis cystica is usually benign and indolent.

We report on an eighty-year-old Haitian man with a suprapubic mass of seven months duration after five years of urinary diversion for urethral stricture. Histologically the mass was a squamous cell carcinoma confined to the suprapubic tract without bladder involvement. We believe this is the first such case reported in the literature, and it stresses the need for close monitoring of patients with any type of long-term indwelling catheter.

Benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) is the most common cause of urinary outflow obstruction. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the preferred treatment for symptomatic BPH and is considered the gold standard of treatment. Balloon dilatation of the prostate (TUBD), besides some criticism, represents a nonoperative treatment alternative for treatment of symptomatic BPH which is simple and safe. We describe the technique of TUBD, balloon technology, as well as advantages and disadvantages of balloon dilatation.

Interventional radiological techniques of the lower genitourinary (GU) tract are large and varied and continue to expand because of technological advances and also because budgetary restraints are being placed on our medical society. This has stimulated continuous search for alternative ways of treating disease in a more cost-effective fashion. As a result, there has been an overall decrease in morbidity and mortality, as well as postprocedural incapacity. We review the most important and newest modalities and provide some background of the processes affecting the lower GU tract.

Cystinuria is a rare cause of renal calculi, accounting for about 1 percent of cases. Herein we describe our experience with a series of 10 patients with cystinuria and highlight the particular problems of the use of extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL) to treat these types of stones and our resultant emphasis on percutaneous techniques.

We report a case of unusually large multiple penile horns following removal of condylomata acuminata. Penile horns can grow rapidly, although malignant degeneration is uncommon. Wide excision with deep biopsy of skin at the base of the lesion probably is appropriate treatment.
