RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: Pulmonary epithelial myoepithelial carcinoma is very rare. We reported the imaging finding of pulmonary epithelial myoepithelial carcinoma of bronchus in a 61-year-old man on 18F-FDG PET/CT. An irregular mass with an SUVmax of 6.36 growing along right upper lobe bronchus and multiple pulmonary nodules around the mass were found on 18F-FDG PET/CT. Postoperative pathology demonstrated the diagnosis of epithelial myoepithelial carcinoma.

RESUMEN

Neonicotinoid insecticides (NEOs) are a widely used type of insecticide found globally, leading to broad human exposure. However, there is limited research on how internal exposure levels of NEOs and their metabolites impact in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) outcomes. A study was conducted at the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University between 2017 and 2020 involving 436 women undergoing IVF/ICSI treatment. Data on demographics and clinical history were collected from medical records. The concentrations of 11 NEOs and 4 NEO metabolites in follicular fluid and serum were measured using a salting-out assisted liquid-liquid extraction method and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Our findings indicated that NEOs were prevalent in women with infertility. One NEO metabolite, N-dm-ACE, was detected in all samples with median concentrations of 0.221 ng/mL in follicular fluid and 0.228 ng/mL in serum. The study showed a decrease in the number of retrieved oocytes, mature oocytes, 2 PN zygotes, and high-quality embryos as the number of exposed NEOs in follicular fluid increased. Women in the highest tertile of N-dm-ACE exposure had fewer mature oocytes, 2 PN zygotes, and lower oocyte maturity rates compared to those in the lowest tertile. The findings suggest that exposure to NEOs may negatively impact reproductive outcomes in IVF/ICSI pregnancies, particularly affecting oocyte retrieval and embryo quality. This study highlights the potential adverse effects of environmental NEO exposure on IVF/ICSI outcomes, emphasizing the importance of considering such exposures in preconception care.

RESUMEN

As "chemical chameleons," organosulfones have been widely applied in various desulfonylative functionalization reactions. However, the desulfonylative functionalization of (hetero)arylsulfones through the cleavage of inert C(sp2)-SO2 bonds remains a challenging and underexplored task. Over the past twenty years, the use of (hetero)arylsulfones as arylation reagents has gradually gained attention in diverse cross-coupling reactions under specific catalytic conditions, especially in transition metal-catalysis and photocatalysis chemistry. In this review, we discuss the representative accomplishments and mechanistic insights achieved in desulfonylative reactions of inactive C(sp2)-SO2 bonds in (hetero)arylsulfones, including: (i) transition-metal-catalyzed desulfonylative cross-coupling reactions and (ii) photo-/electrocatalytic radical desulfonylative coupling reactions. We anticipate that this review will provide an overall perspective in this area to a general audience of researchers and stimulate further innovative strategies for desulfonylative functionalization of inert arylsulfones.

RESUMEN

The occurrence of metastasis is a major factor contributing to poor prognosis in colorectal cancer. Different stages of the disease play a crucial role in distant metastasis. Furthermore, m6A has been demonstrated to play a significant role in regulating tumor metastasis. Therefore, we conducted an analysis of transcriptome data from high-stage and low-stage colorectal cancer patients in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to identify genes associated with m6A-related regulation. We identified SYNPO2L as a core gene regulated by m6A, and it is correlated with adverse prognosis and metastasis in patients. Additionally, we demonstrated that the m6A writer gene Mettl16 can regulate the stability of SYNPO2L through interaction with YTHDC1. Subsequently, using Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA), we discovered that SYNPO2L can regulate COL10A1, mediating the actions of Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts. SYNPO2L promotes the secretion of COL10A1 and the infiltration of tumor-associated fibroblasts, thereby facilitating Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) in tumor cells and making them more prone to distant metastasis.

RESUMEN

The replacement of oxygen evolution reactions with organic molecule oxidation reactions to enable energy-efficient hydrogen production has been a subject of interest. However, further reducing reaction energy consumption and releasing hydrogen from organic molecules continue to pose significant challenges. Herein, a strategy is proposed to produce hydrogen and formic acid from formaldehyde using Ag/Co3O4 interface catalysts at the anode. The key to improving the performance of Ag-based catalysts for formaldehyde oxidation lies in the strong SMSI achieved through the well-designed "spontaneous redox reaction" between Ag and Co3O4 precursors. Nano-sized Ag particles are uniformly dispersed on Co3O4 nanosheets, and electron-deficient Agδ+ are formed by the SMSI between Ag and Co3O4. Ag/Co3O4 demonstrates exceptional formaldehyde oxidation activity at low potentials of 0.32 V versus RHE and 0.65 V versus RHE, achieving current densities of 10 and 100 mA cm-2, respectively. The electrolyzer "Ag/Co3O4||20% Pt/C" achieves over 195% hydrogen efficiency and over 98% formic acid selectivity, maintaining stable operation for 60 hours. This work not only presents a novel approach to precisely modulate Ag particle size and interface electronic structure via SMSI, but also provides a promising approach to efficient and energy-saving hydrogen production and the transformation of harmful formaldehyde.

RESUMEN

Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan) is a nutrient-rich and versatile food legume crop of tropical and subtropical regions. In this study, we describe the de novo assembly of a high-quality genome for the ancient pigeonpea landrace 'D30', achieved through a combination of Pacific Biosciences high-fidelity (PacBio HiFi) and high-throughput chromatin conformation capture (Hi-C) sequencing technologies. The assembled 'D30' genome has a size of 813.54 Mb, with a contig N50 of 10.74 Mb, a scaffold N50 of 73.07 Mb, and a GC content of 35.67%. Genomic evaluation revealed that the 'D30' genome contains 99.2% of Benchmarking Universal Single-Copy Orthologs (BUSCO) and achieves a 29.06 long terminal repeat (LTR) assembly index (LAI). Genome annotation indicated that 'D30' encompasses 431.37 Mb of repeat elements (53.02% of the genome) and 37 977 protein-coding genes. Identification of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), insertions/deletions (indels), and structural variations between 'D30' and the published genome of pigeonpea cultivar 'Asha' suggests that genes affected by these variations may play important roles in biotic and abiotic stress responses. Further investigation of genomic regions under selection highlights genes enriched in starch and sucrose metabolism, with 42.11% of these genes highly expressed in seeds. Finally, we conducted genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to facilitate the identification of 28 marker-trait associations for six agronomic traits of pigeonpea. Notably, we discovered a calmodulin-like protein (CcCML) that harbors a dominant haplotype associated with the 100-seed weight of pigeonpea. Our study provides a foundational resource for developing genomics-assisted breeding programs in pigeonpea.

RESUMEN

Podocalyxin-like protein (PODXL) is known to originate from tumor cells in several cancers; however, which cell type it is expressed in, whether and how it may contribute to tumor progression after radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy in cervical cancer (CC) remain unknown. In this study, we investigated these issues using a cohort of 180 immune stain data, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data of 29,453 cells, and bulk RNA sequencing data from 187 cervical cancer samples treated with radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy. ScRNA-seq analysis revealed that PODXL was predominantly expressed in tumor endothelial cells (TECs) of CC, which was corroborated by tumor section staining. Moreover, the PODXL expression level was negatively associated with progression-free survival and overall survival of 180 CC patients receiving radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy (both p < 0.001). Furthermore, compared with PODXLlow TECs, PODXLhigh TECs exhibited a diminished anti-tumor immune response and enhanced tumor-promoting features characteristics. In addition, PODXL over-expression was also found to be negatively associated with immune response and indicated poor survival in bulk RNA sequencing data of CC treated with radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy. These results underscore the role of PODXL in CC, suggesting it as a promising target and prognostic marker for patients treated with radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Frailty is associated with multiple morbidities. However, its effect on chronic liver diseases remains largely unexplored. This study evaluated the association of frailty with the risk of incident metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), cirrhosis, liver cancer, and liver-related mortality. METHODS: A total of 339,298 participants without prior liver diseases from the UK Biobank were included. Baseline frailty was assessed by using physical frailty and the frailty index, categorizing participants as nonfrail, prefrail, or frail. The primary outcome was MASLD, with secondary outcomes, including cirrhosis, liver cancer, and liver-related mortality, confirmed through hospital admission records and death registries. RESULTS: During a median follow-up of 11.6 years, 4,667 MASLD, 1,636 cirrhosis, 257 liver cancer, and 646 liver-related mortality cases were identified. After multivariable adjustment, the risk of MASLD was found to be higher in participants with prefrailty (physical frailty: HR = 1.66, 95% CI = 1.40-1.97; frailty index: HR = 2.01, 95% CI = 1.67-2.42) and frailty (physical frailty: HR = 3.32, 95% CI = 2.54-4.34; frailty index: HR = 4.54, 95% CI = 3.65-5.66) than in those with nonfrailty. Similar results were also observed for cirrhosis, liver cancer, and liver-related mortality. Additionally, the frail groups had a higher risk of MASLD, which was defined as magnetic resonance imaging-derived liver proton density fat fraction > 5%, than the nonfrail group (physical frailty: OR = 1.64, 95% CI = 1.32-2.04; frailty index: OR = 1.48, 95% CI = 1.30-1.68). CONCLUSIONS: Frailty was associated with an increased risk of chronic liver diseases. Public health strategies should target reducing chronic liver disease risk in frail individuals. IMPACT AND IMPLICATIONS: While frailty is common and associated with a poor prognosis in people with MASLD and advanced chronic liver diseases, its impact on the subsequent risk of these outcomes remains largely unexplored. Our study showed that frailty was associated with the increased risks of MASLD, cirrhosis, liver cancer, and liver-related mortality. This finding suggests that assessing frailty may help identify a high-risk population vulnerable to developing chronic liver diseases. Implementing strategies that target frailty could have major public health benefits for liver-related disease prevention.

RESUMEN

This study investigated the association between serum albumin concentration and 12-weeks mortality of HIV/AIDS with late diagnosis in China. This retrospective cohort study included, 1079 inpatients diagnosis with late HIV/AIDS between January 2018 and December 2021. Disease progression was estimated based on the 12-weeks mortality rate. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to evaluate the relationship between serum albumin levels and disease progression. The effects of serum albumin levels on mortality was estimated via Kaplan-Meier curves. The mortality risk decreased by 7% with every 1 g/L increase in serum albumin after adjustment ([HR] = 0.93, 95% CI: 0.88-0.97). Compared with that of the low (< 28 g/L) serum albumin group, the middle (28-34 g/L) group's mortality risk decreased by 70% (HR = 0.30, 95% CI: 0.15-0.59), and that of the high (≥ 34 g/L) group decreased by 40% (HR = 0.6, 95% CI: 0.29-1.23) after adjustment. Our findings suggest a positive correlation between the increase in serum albumin levels upon admission and a decrease in mortality at 12 weeks post-discharge among patients with late AIDS/HIV diagnosis. Further research is needed to characterize the role of serum albumin in 12-weeks mortality prevention in patients with a late diagnosis.

RESUMEN

Although CRISPR-Cas9 technology is poised to revolutionize the treatment of diseases with underlying genetic mutations, it faces some significant issues limiting clinical entry. They include low-efficiency in vivo systemic delivery and undesired off-target effects. Here, we demonstrate, by modifying Cas9 with phosphorothioate-DNA oligos (PSs), that one can efficiently deliver single and bi-specific CRISPR-Cas9/guide RNA (gRNA) dimers in vitro and in vivo with reduced off-target effects. We show that PS-Cas9/gRNA-mediated gene knockout preserves chimeric antigen receptor T cell viability and expansion in vitro and in vivo. PS-Cas9/gRNA mediates gene perturbation in patient-derived tumor organoids and mouse xenograft tumors, leading to potent tumor antitumor effects. Further, HER2 antibody-PS-Cas9/gRNA conjugate selectively perturbs targeted genes in HER2+ ovarian cancer xenografts in vivo. Moreover, we created bi-specific PS-Cas9 with two gRNAs to target two adjacent sequences of the same gene, leading to efficient targeted gene disruption ex vivo and in vivo with markedly reduced unintended gene perturbation. Thus, the cell-penetrating PS-Cas9/gRNA can achieve efficient systemic delivery and precision in gene disruption.

RESUMEN

Acquired bronchobiliary fistula (ABBF) is very rare among the complications that occur in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after treatment. Although surgery and drainage have been the main methods for treating ABBF for a long time, they are not entirely suitable for patients with refractory ABBF resulting from HCC therapy. In this study, we present four cases of ABBF caused by HCC treatment, who were treated using selective bronchial occlusion (SBO). Among the 4 patients with ABBF treated with SBO, 3 cases successfully blocked ABBF with SBO, and the treatment success rate was 75%. All successfully treated patients reported disappearance of symptoms of bilioptysis and cough was alleviated. No life-threatening adverse reactions were reported following SBO intervention, and no deaths occurred. We believe that the use of video bronchoscopy to place a self-made silicone plug in the bronchus to treat refractory ABBF is a feasible palliative treatment, which can significantly improve the condition of ABBF patients.

RESUMEN

Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis (XGC) is a rare type of cholecystitis that, despite being benign poses diagnostic challenges due to its low prevalence and need for consensus on diagnostic criteria. Consequently, distinguishing XGC from gallbladder cancer (GBC) is challenging, leading to clinical misdiagnoses. This article presents a case where a patient initially diagnosed with GBC was later found to have XGC.

RESUMEN

Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the postoperative pain effect and clinical efficacy of different drugs combined with PKP or PVP in treating osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs) through a systematic review and network meta-analysis. Methods: We searched five electronic databases, namely, MEDLINE (PubMed), EMBASE, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials online, for the treatment of OVCFs through March 2023 with keywords zoledronic acid (ZOL), teriparatide (TPTD or PTH 1-34), and calcitonin (CT) combined with PKP/PVP. The visual analog scale (VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were the primary outcomes of the network meta-analysis, and the secondary outcome was the diagnostic marker bone mineral density (BMD). Results: Eighteen studies involving 2,374 patients were included in this study. The network meta-analysis revealed that, in terms of reducing VAS scores, compared with PVP surgery alone, PVP combined with TPTD was most likely to be the treatment associated with the greatest pain relief [MD = -4.99, 95% CI = (-7.45, -2.52)]. In terms of reducing the ODI dysfunction score, compared with PKP combined with Cal, PKP combined with ZOL had the highest probability of being the best treatment option [MD = -9.11, 95% CI = (-14.27, -3.95)]. In terms of protecting against bone density loss, compared with PKP surgery alone, treatment with PKP combined with ZOL had the best effect [MD = 0.39, 95% CI = (0.13,0.65)]. Conclusions: Based on the network meta-analysis and SUCRA rankings, this study concluded that adding teriparatide has the advantage of reducing VAS pain scores compared with PVP alone and that adding zoledronate is a more effective treatment for reducing ODI scores compared with PKP combined with Cal and preserving BMD compared with PKP alone. However, additional high-quality studies are needed to verify our findings. RESUMEN

The liver, a complex parenchymal organ, possesses a distinctive microcirculatory system crucial for its physiological functions. An intricate interplay exists between hepatic microcirculatory disturbance and the manifestation of pathological features in diverse liver diseases. This review updates the main characteristics of hepatic microcirculatory disturbance, including hepatic sinusoidal capillarization, narrowing of sinusoidal space, portal hypertension, and pathological angiogenesis, as well as their formation mechanisms. It also summarized the detection methods for hepatic microcirculation. Simultaneously, we have also reviewed the characteristics of microcirculatory disturbance in diverse liver diseases such as acute liver failure, hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury, viral hepatitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, hepatic fibrosis, hepatic cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Finally, this review also summarizes the advancement in hepatic microcirculation attributed to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and its active metabolites, providing novel insights into the application of TCM in treating liver diseases.

RESUMEN

The defense response of peach (Prunus persica) to insect attack involves changes in gene expression and metabolites. Piercing/sucking insects such as green peach aphid cause direct damage by obtaining phloem nutrients and indirect damage by spreading plant viruses. To investigate the response of peach trees to aphids, the leaf transcriptome and metabolome of two genotypes with different sensitivities to green peach aphid (GPA, Myzus persicae) were studied. The transcriptome analysis of infected peach leaves showed two different response patterns. The gene expression of aphid-susceptible peach plants infected by aphids was more similar to that of the control plants, while the gene expression of aphid-resistant peach plants infected by aphids showed strongly induced changes in gene expression compared with the response in the control plants. Furthermore, gene transcripts in defense-related pathways, including plant-pathogen interaction, MAPK signaling, and several metabolic pathways, were more strongly enriched upon aphid infestation. Untargeted secondary metabolite profiling confirmed that aphid treatment induced larger changes in aphid-resistant peaches than in aphid-susceptible peaches. Consistent with transcriptomic alterations, nine triterpenoids showed extremely significant GPA-induced accumulation in aphid-resistant peaches, whereas triterpenoid abundance remained predominantly unchanged or undetected in aphid- susceptible peaches. Furthermore, some types of transcription factors (including WRKYs, ERFs, NACs, etc.) were more strongly induced upon GPA infestation in aphid-resistant peaches but not in aphid-susceptible peaches. Aphid feeding-dependent transcriptome and metabolite profiles provide the foundation for understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the response of peach to aphid infestation. These results suggested that accumulation of specialized triterpenoids and the corresponding pathway transcripts may play a key role in peach GPA resistance.

RESUMEN

Cancer is measured as a major threat to human life and is a leading cause of death. Millions of cancer patients die every year, although a burgeoning number of researchers have been making tremendous efforts to develop cancer medicine to fight against cancer. Owing to the complexity and heterogeneity of cancer, lack of ability to treat deep tumor tissues, and high toxicity to the normal cells, it complicates the therapy of cancer. However, bacterial derivative-mediated drug delivery has raised the interest of researchers in overcoming the restrictions of conventional cancer chemotherapy. In this review, we show various examples of tumor-targeting bacteria and bacterial derivatives for the delivery of anticancer drugs. This review also describes the advantages and limitations of delivering anticancer treatment drugs under regulated conditions employing these tumor-targeting bacteria and their membrane vesicles. This study highlights the substantial potential for clinical translation of bacterial-based drug carriers, improve their ability to work with other treatment modalities, and provide a more powerful, dependable, and distinctive tumor therapy.

RESUMEN

In recent years, semantic segmentation in deep learning has been widely applied in medical image segmentation, leading to the development of numerous models. Convolutional Neural Network (CNNs) have achieved milestone achievements in medical image analysis. Particularly, deep neural networks based on U-shaped architectures and skip connections have been extensively employed in various medical image tasks. U-Net is characterized by its encoder-decoder architecture and pioneering skip connections, along with multi-scale features, has served as a fundamental network architecture for many modifications. But U-Net cannot fully utilize all the information from the encoder layer in the decoder layer. U-Net++ connects mid parameters of different dimensions through nested and dense skip connections. However, it can only alleviate the disadvantage of not being able to fully utilize the encoder information and will greatly increase the model parameters. In this paper, a novel BFNet is proposed to utilize all feature maps from the encoder at every layer of the decoder and reconnects with the current layer of the encoder. This allows the decoder to better learn the positional information of segmentation targets and improves learning of boundary information and abstract semantics in the current layer of the encoder. Our proposed method has a significant improvement in accuracy with 1.4 percent. Besides enhancing accuracy, our proposed BFNet also reduces network parameters. All the advantages we proposed are demonstrated on our dataset. We also discuss how different loss functions influence this model and some possible improvements.

RESUMEN

Background: Taohong Siwu decoction (THSWD) is a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula known for its effects in promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, and rejuvenating energy. There have been clinical reports of THSWD treating chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) caused by paclitaxel. We conducted a network pharmacology and molecular docking analysis to further clarify the molecular mechanisms by which THSWD exerts its protective effects against CIPN. Methods: Chemical components of THSWD and their corresponding targets were obtained through the traditional Chinese medicine systems pharmacology database and analysis platform (TCMSP), and related targets of CIPN were searched in disease databases including Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM), Therapeutic Target Database (TTD), GeneCards, and DrugBank. Common targets between THSWD and CIPN were identified using Venn diagrams. A protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed using Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes/Proteins (STRING), which was followed by Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis. AutoDock and PyMOL were used for the molecular docking validation of the key components of THSWD with core targets. Results: At total of 69 chemical components of THSWD were identified, corresponding to 856 targets; 2,297 targets were associated with CIPN, with an intersection of 105 common targets. PPI analysis identified eight core targets: MYC, TNF, MAPK14, AKT1, ESR1, RELA, TP53, and HSP90AA1; KEGG enrichment analysis implicated signaling pathways such as PI3K-Akt, NF-κB, and HIF-1, etc. Molecular docking results indicated that the selected active components and their corresponding target proteins have good binding activity. Conclusions: Through network pharmacology, this study found that THSWD has significant advantages in treating CIPN. By analyzing potential core targets, biological functions, and involved signaling pathways, we clarified the potential molecular biological mechanisms involved in THSWD's treatment effect. This study provides a theoretical basis for the clinical application of THSWD in treating CIPN.

RESUMEN

Objectives: Sarcopenia has a detrimental impact on the prognosis of individuals with liver cirrhosis, however, the clinical significance of alterations in muscle mass remains uncertain. This study aims to investigate the influence of loss of skeletal muscle mass (LSMM) on the prognostic outcomes among patients diagnosed with cirrhosis. Methods: In this retrospective analysis, a total of 158 individuals with cirrhosis who visited our hospital during the period from January 2018 to August 2023 were included. Computed tomography was utilized to measure the cross-sectional area of the skeletal muscles at the level of the third lumbar vertebra. This measurement enabled the determination of the skeletal muscle index for the purpose of diagnosing sarcopenia. The annual relative change in skeletal muscle area (ΔSMA/y) was calculated for each patient, and LSMM was defined as ΔSMA/y < 0. To assess the risk factors associated with liver-related mortality, a competing risk model was applied. Results: Of the 158 cirrhotic patients, 95 (60.1 %) patients were identified as LSMM. The median of ΔSMA/y% was -0.9 (interquartile range [IQR], -3.8, 1.6) in all patients. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) was confirmed as a risk factor of LSMM. During a median follow-up period of 68.1 (IQR, 43.5, 105.0) months, 57 patients (36.1 %) died due to the liver-related diseases. The competing risk model found that LSMM was significantly associated with liver-related mortality in cirrhotic patients (hazard ratio [HR], 1.86; 95 % CI, 1.01-3.44, p = 0.047). Cumulative survival was significantly higher in patients without LSMM than in those with LSMM (p = 0.004). Survival rates at 1-, 3-, and 5-years were 96.8 %, 81.0 %, and 65.1 %, respectively, in patients without LSMM, and 97.9 %, 80.0 %, and 56.8 %, respectively, in patients with LSMM. Conclusion: The utilization of LSMM can be valuable in the prediction of liver-related mortality among individuals diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. Paying attention to the management of skeletal muscle might play a role in enhancing the prognosis of patients with cirrhosis. Clinical relevance statement: This study provides an additional indicator-LSMM for clinicians to help predict the liver-related mortality in patients diagnosed with cirrhosis.

RESUMEN

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the quadriceps femoris in patients with chronic thyrotoxic myopathy (CTM) using musculoskeletal ultrasound and to explore its practical clinical value for the diagnosis of CTM. Methods: A total of 241 subjects recruited from the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University were surveyed for detailed medical history and underwent grip strength tests, fixed-distance walking, and quadriceps femoris ultrasound examinations. Differences in muscle parameters between the CTM, non-CTM, and healthy groups were analyzed. An Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was established to analyze the predictive value of various ultrasound measurements for CTM, and Spearman correlation analysis and binary logistic regression were applied to explore the factors associated CTM. Results: The quadriceps femoris contraction index, muscle thickness, muscle cross-sectional area, and pennation angle in the CTM group were significantly lower than those in the non-CTM and healthy groups (p<0.01). The ROC curve prediction showed that the pennation angle had the best sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing myogenesis, with an area under the curve of 89%. Moreover, the pennation angle of the CTM group was positively correlated with step speed (r=0.245, p=0.031) and body surface area (r=0.276, p=0.014), but negatively correlated with age (r=-0.306, p=0.007). Regression analysis showed that the quadriceps femoris contraction index, muscle thickness, pennation angle, and cross-sectional area were factors that related the CTM. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, the association between Muscle Bundle Length and CTM became significant (OR=1.99, 95% CI: 1.22, 3.35, p=0.007). Muscular echo in patients was observed to varying degrees of enhancement. Conclusion: Musculoskeletal ultrasonography in the quantitative analysis of muscle parameters and muscle echo of the quadriceps femoris can provide essential imaging evidence for predicting CTM.
