RESUMEN

Purpose: Clinical nursing in obstetrics and gynecology is a technically demanding job. Doctors and nurses have different professional backgrounds and work priorities, and there are differences in communication modes, which can easily lead to poor communication between medical staff and their patients. Therefore this study aims to examine the different communication roles and emphases of obstetrician and gynecologists, nurses and midwives in different sections of SEGUE framework, and further navigate the effectiveness and differences of offline and online provider-patient communication. Participants and Methods: This study employs in-depth interviews to address the research questions. A total of 24 health care providers, including 8 doctors, 5 midwives and 11 nurses, were interviewed face-to-face or by telephone. Results: Doctors pay more attention to the "giving information" stage, while nurses pay more attention to "set the stage" and "elicit information" steps. Midwives and nurses spend more time with patients before and after labor. In addition to information giving, they also accommodate the "understand the patient's perspective" and "end the encounter" steps. Nurses and midwives would attach greater importance to "understanding of patients' perspective". Online medical consultation is more convenient for patients, which can be used as a follow-up complement to offline medical consultation. Conclusion: The health care providers of different types in obstetrics and gynecology communicate collaboratively with patients, highlighting the equally important role of midwives and nurses when communicating with patients. Nurses focus on "set the stage" and "elicit information" stage. Midwife is another important information source and medical care provider, especially for pregnant women in stable conditions. Nutrition clinic of midwife could be recommended for hospitals in second- and third-tier cities, which could help to alleviate obstetricians' workload. The provision of an online collaborative consultation could be beneficial supplement after face-to-face doctor-patient communication.

RESUMEN

Purpose: Inspiration is a psychological construct that has been relatively understudied in times of difficulty. This study aims to investigate the mediating effect of inspiration on the relationship between emotions and coping strategies in the context of adversity and to testify the effect in Chinese as well as the International societies. Participants and Methods: Using the snowball sampling method, two survey studies were conducted among 523 Chinese and 503 international participants during and soon after the local Covid-19 outbreak to testify how positive and negative emotions contributed to various coping strategies and whether the experience of inspiration mediated these relations. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the data. Results: Positive emotions had a higher impact on problem-solving and seeking social support coping strategies, whereas negative emotions had a higher impact on avoidance coping strategy. Both positive and negative emotions had positive relationships with inspiration, but positive emotions had a higher impact than negative ones. The indirect effects of emotions on problem-solving and social support coping strategies through inspiration were significantly positive, while the avoidance coping strategy was not influenced by the experience of inspiration. Conclusion: The results suggest that being inspired in both positive and negative emotions is positively related to approach coping strategies in adverse situations such as COVID-19, with the effect patterns slightly differing between Chinese participants and their Western counterparts. This study highlights the importance of inspiration experience as a motivational state that can help individuals bring newly acquired ideas into fruition, especially during times of difficulty. By understanding the role of inspiration in the context of adversity, public health systems can better assist individuals in different societies to cope with the challenges they face.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: This study explores and compares the influences of family communication patterns (conversation orientation and conformity orientation) on family discussion and preventive behaviors for older parents and their adult children in the context of the early COVID-19 outbreak. METHODS: A total of 248 participants, including 117 parents and 131 adult children, participated in an online survey in February 2020. Participants reported family communication patterns, family discussions related to COVID-19, and their preventive behaviors. RESULTS: Conversation orientation was positively associated with information sharing and scientific discussion for older parents and adult children. Our results revealed the differential influences of conformity orientation on older parents and adult children. Conformity orientation was positively associated with scientific discussion for older parents but was not significantly associated with any form of family discussion reported by adult children. There was a significant interaction effect of conversation orientation and conformity orientation on disputed communication within the family, suggesting that conflicts may arise in COVID-related discussions when parents and adult children value conversation and conformity. Scientific discussion was found to mediate the relationships between family communication patterns and preventive behaviors. The effects of scientific discussions were stronger for older parents than for adult children. CONCLUSIONS: Family communication patterns can be associated with preventive behaviors through different forms of family discussion about COVID-19. Conversation orientation is a strong facilitator for positive behavioral effects and scientific discussion is the most benign form of family health discussion. Health communication efforts should enhance the agency role of the family and motivate scientific discussion in health practices.

RESUMEN

Introduction: In China, digital health and telemedicine services grew particularly rapidly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of this study was to examine the effects of technology acceptance model (TAM) predictors, previous social media health service exposure, and telemedicine experience on individual telemedicine service usage intention within the extended theoretical framework of TAM and TAM2. Methods: The study adopted a cross-sectional survey to collect data (N = 1,088) through a Chinese online panel provider (wenjuan.com). Structural equation modeling was performed to examine relationships between the variables in the proposed model. Results: Our results indicated that technology anxiety (TA) was negatively related to perceived ease of use (PEOU) and usage intention. PEOU mediated the relationship between TA and usage intention. Social media health information consumption was positively associated with perceived usefulness (PU). Previous telemedicine satisfaction was positively related to PEOU and PU, but the direct relationship between satisfaction with telemedicine and usage intention was not found to be significant. Besides, PEOU and PU mediated the relationship between previous telemedicine satisfaction and usage intention. Conclusions: Findings of the study not only contribute to literature pertaining to telemedicine promotion by identifying important mediation relationships but also help identify potential users and provide a convenient internet-based promotion channel since they reveal that social media health information consumption is positively related to PU of telemedicine services.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Physician-patient conflicts in China have increased more than ten times from the 2000s to the 2020 and arouse heated discussions on microblog. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic is believed to have brought a turnaround in the physician-patient relationship. However, little is known about the similarities and differences among the views of opinion leaders from the general public, physicians, and media regarding physician-patient conflict incidents on microblog, and whether the outbreak had an impact on this. Objective: This study aims to explore how opinion leaders from the physicians, general public, and media framed posts on major physician-patient conflict incidents on microblog, and compare the microblog post frames before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings will provide more objective evidence of the attitudes and perspectives of the health professionals, general public, and media on physician-patient conflicts, and the influence of pandemics on physician-patient relationship. Methods: A comparative content analysis was conducted to examine the posts (n = 941) of microblog opinion leaders regarding major physician-patient conflicts in China from 2012 to 2020. Results: Post-pandemic microblog posts used more cooperation, positive and negative frames, but mentioned less health-related knowledge; no difference was found in the use of conflict and attribution frames. Results on the use of frames by opinion leaders from different communities found that the media used more conflict, cooperation, attribution, and positive frames, but used fewer negative frames and mentioned less health-related knowledge than general public and physicians. Results on the use of frames for different incidents found that incidents of violence against physicians used more cooperation, positive and negative frames and mentioned less health-related knowledge; in the contract, incidents of patient death used more attribution frames and mentioned more health-related knowledge. Conclusion: The physician and general public opinion leaders share some similarities in their post frames, implying that no fundamental discrepancy between them regarding physician-patient conflict incidents. However, the imbalanced use of frames by media microblogger would cultivate and reinforce the public perception of physician-patient contradictions. After the COVID-19 pandemic, more cooperation and positive frames were used in the posts, indicating an improvement in the physician-patient relationship in China.

RESUMEN

This study aims to explore and compare the influences of two crucial information channels used by middle-aged parents-media and their adult children-on their health knowledge, emotions and preventive behaviors against COVID-19, based on media exposure and the family communication patterns (FCP) theory. Parents of college students in Guangzhou, China were invited to participate in an online survey between February 10 and 24, 2020. A total of 193 respondents, aged between 40 and 65 years, completed the study questionnaire. Media exposure was a positive predictor of negative emotions, intergenerational discussions, and preventive behaviors among Chinese middle-aged parents. Conversation orientation was a positive predictor of scientific discussions and preventive behaviors, whereas conformity orientation was a negative predictor of knowledge, but a positive predictor of intergenerational discussions and negative emotions. Intergenerational discussions mediated the relationships between media exposure and preventive behaviors, as well as between FCP and preventive behaviors. Health communication efforts require the help of adult children as intergenerational communication serves as an important amplifier in terms of influencing the health knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of middle-aged and elderly populations.

RESUMEN

The mechanisms of selective hydrogenation of acetylene to ethylene on B11N12Pd single-atom catalyst were investigated through the density functional theory by using the 6-31++G** basis set. We studied the adsorption characteristics of H2 and C2H2, and simulated the reaction mechanism. We discovered that H2 underwent absolute dissociative chemisorption on single-atom Pd, forming the B11N12Pd(2H) dihydride complex, and then the hydrogenation reaction with C2H2 proceeded. The hydrogenation reaction of acetylene on the B11N12Pd complex complies with the Horiuti-Polanyi mechanism, and the energy barrier was as low as 26.55 kcal mol-1. Meanwhile, it also has a higher selectivity than many bimetallic alloy single-atom catalysts.
