RESUMEN

Desde tiempo histórico las plantas medicinales se han empleado como ingrediente principal para preparación de diferentes recetas. Motivo que se investigó sobre la Huamanripa como alternativa saludable para afecciones respiratorias durante la pandemia COVID-19 en Barranca. Objetivo. El objetivo fue determinar la eficiencia de la Huamanripa como alternativa saludable para las afecciones respiratorias en la pandemia. Materiales y Método. La metodología se basa en investigación descriptiva con enfoque cuantitativo prospectivo, por lo que se cuestionó sobre la preparación, frecuencia de consumo y para que enfermedades se consumen. Obtenidos los datos se procesaron mediante estadísticas básicas y regresión. Resultados. Se determinó que la Huamanripa lo usan para tratamiento casero medicinal y consume con frecuencia 4 a 5 veces por semana para afecciones respiratorias y COVID-19, consumo de Huamanripa por mes con 23 % de la población, porcentaje de alivio de afecciones respiratorias con 84 %, correlación entre el consumo de Huamanripa y porcentaje de alivio r = 0.99 y en análisis de varianza del consumo de Huamanripa y el porcentaje de alivio no hubo significancia. Conclusiones. Concluye que la Huamanripa es una alternativa eficiente y se puede complementar con otros tratamientos para las afecciones respiratorias y síntomas de COVID-19; ya sea por sus propiedades como aceites especiales y terpenos que tienen efectos antimicrobiana, antiinflamatoria, aliviante, lo cual favorece a la salud.


Since historical times, medicinal plants have been used as the main ingredient for the preparation of different recipes. For this reason, Huamanripa was investigated as a healthy alternative for respiratory diseases during the COVID-19 pandemic in Barranca. Objective. The objective was to determine the efficiency of Huamanripa as a healthy alternative for respiratory diseases during the pandemic. Materials and Method. The methodology is based on descriptive research with a prospective quantitative approach, so that the preparation, frequency of consumption and the diseases for which it is consumed were questioned. Data were obtained and processed by means of basic statistics and regression. Results. It was determined that Huamanripa is used for medicinal home treatment and consumed 4 to 5 times a week for respiratory diseases and COVID-19, consumption of Huamanripa per month with 23% of the population, percentage of relief of respiratory diseases with 84%, correlation between consumption of Huamanripa and percentage of relief r = 0.99 and in variance analysis of Huamanripa consumption and percentage of relief there was no significance. Conclusions. It is concluded that Huamanripa is an efficient alternative and can be complemented with other treatments for respiratory conditions and symptoms of COVID-19; either by its properties such as special oils and terpenes that have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, relieving effects, which favors health.


Desde tempos históricos as plantas medicinais têm sido utilizadas como ingrediente principal para a preparação de diferentes receitas. Por esta razão, Huamanripa foi investigado como uma alternativa saudável para doenças respiratórias durante a pandemia da COVID-19 em Barranca. Objetivo. O objetivo era determinar a eficiência de Huamanripa como uma alternativa saudável para as doenças respiratórias durante a pandemia. Materiais e Método. A metodologia é baseada em pesquisa descritiva com uma abordagem quantitativa prospectiva, de modo que foram feitas perguntas sobre a preparação, a freqüência do consumo e para quais doenças é consumida. Os dados foram obtidos e processados utilizando estatísticas básicas e regressão. Resultados. Foi determinado que Huamanripa é usado para tratamento medicinal domiciliar e consumido 4 a 5 vezes por semana para doenças respiratórias e COVID-19, consumo de Huamanripa por mês com 23% da população, porcentagem de alívio de doenças respiratórias com 84%, correlação entre consumo de Huamanripa e porcentagem de alívio r = 0,99 e na análise de variância do consumo de Huamanripa e da porcentagem de alívio não houve significância. Conclusões. Conclui que Huamanripa é uma alternativa eficiente e pode ser complementada com outros tratamentos para condições respiratórias e sintomas da COVID-19; seja por suas propriedades como óleos especiais e terpenos que têm efeitos antimicrobianos, anti-inflamatórios, aliviadores, o que favorece a saúde.

RESUMEN

Integrating acoustic wave sensors into lab-on-a-chip (LoC) devices is a well-known challenge. We address this challenge by designing a microfluidic device housing a monolithic array of 24 high-fundamental frequency quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (HFF-QCMD) sensors. The device features six 6-µL channels of four sensors each for low-volume parallel measurements, a sealing mechanism that provides appropriate pressure control while assuring liquid confinement and maintaining good stability, and provides a mechanical, electrical, and thermal interface with the characterization electronics. We validate the device by measuring the response of the HFF-QCMD sensors to the air-to-liquid transition, for which the robust Kanazawa-Gordon-Mason theory exists, and then by studying the adsorption of model bioanalytes (neutravidin and biotinylated albumin). With these experiments, we show how the effects of the protein-surface interactions propagate within adsorbed protein multilayers, offering essentially new insight into the design of affinity-based bioanalytical sensors.

RESUMEN

In this paper, the analysis of the intensity of muscle activations in different subjects when they perform an industrial task in a repetitive way assisted by a robotic upper-limb exoskeleton is presented. To do that, surface electromyography (EMG) signals were monitored with and without a robotic upper-limb exoskeleton for 10 subjects during a drilling task, a typical tedious maintenance or industrial task. Our results show that wearing the upper-limb exoskeleton substantially reduces muscle activity during a drilling task above head height. Specifically, there is statistically significant differences in the pectoralis major and rhomboids muscles between the groups wearing or not wearing the robotic upper-limb exoskeleton.

BACKGROUND: In natalizumab-treated relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) patients, various extended interval dosing strategies are under evaluation to minimize severe treatment-associated side effects, mainly progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy development. Up to now, it has not been presented any approach, even in form of assay design, to determine the optimal percentage of CD49d receptor occupancy (RO) associated with a favorable clinical, radiological, and immunological response. METHODS: A multiparametric quantitative flow cytometry method was settled to measure CD49d RO on peripheral blood lymphocytes. The analytical protocol was tested in a 6-month follow-up from 19 RRMS patients treated with the natalizumab standard dosing of every 4 weeks or an extended-interval dosing of every 6 weeks. RESULTS: Extended natalizumab dose schedule promoted an increase of CD49d molecules per cell surface and a reduction of CD49d RO levels. The reduction observed on CD49d RO was not only depending on dose schedule but also on individual parameters such as body mass. Interestingly, individual clinical outcome was apparently the same between the different dose schedules or even better with the extended interval dosing. CONCLUSIONS: Following up CD49d RO levels with a well-regulated monitoring work scheme is crucial to further identify over-/under-treated patients and to define a safe, personalized natalizumab regimen. © 2017 International Clinical Cytometry Society.

A Love Wave (LW) immunosensor was developed for the detection of carbaryl pesticide. The experimental setup consisted on: a compact electronic characterization circuit based on phase and amplitude detection at constant frequency; an automated flow injection system; a thermal control unit; a custom-made flow-through cell; and Quartz /SiO2 LW sensors with a 40 µm wavelength and 120 MHz center frequency. The carbaryl detection was based on a competitive immunoassay format using LIB-CNH45 monoclonal antibody (MAb). Bovine Serum Albumin-CNH (BSA-CNH) carbaryl hapten-conjugate was covalently immobilized, via mercaptohexadecanoic acid self-assembled monolayer (SAM), onto the gold sensing area of the LW sensors. This immobilization allowed the reusability of the sensor for at least 70 assays without significant signal losses. The LW immunosensor showed a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.09 µg/L, a sensitivity of 0.31 µg/L and a linear working range of 0.14-1.63 µg/L. In comparison to other carbaryl immunosensors, the LW immunosensor achieved a high sensitivity and a low LOD. These features turn the LW immunosensor into a promising tool for applications that demand a high resolution, such as for the detection of pesticides in drinking water at European regulatory levels.

INTRODUCTION. Anabolic-androgenic steroids are synthetic substances derived from testosterone that are employed for their trophic effect on muscle tissue, among other uses. Their consumption can give trigger a series of adverse side effects on the body, including the suppression of the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis as well as liver, psychiatric and cardiovascular disorders. The most common effects are altered fat profiles and blood pressure values, cardiac remodelling, arrhythmias or myocardial infarcts. CASE REPORT. We report the case of a young male, with a background of anabolic-androgenic steroids abuse, who visited because of an acute neurological focus in the right hemisphere related with an ischaemic stroke. The aetiological study, including cardiac monitoring, echocardiograph and imaging studies (magnetic resonance and arteriography) and lab findings (thrombophilia, serology, autoimmunity, tumour markers) showed no alterations. CONCLUSIONS. The association between consumption of anabolic-androgenic steroids and cardiovascular pathologies is known, but its relation with cerebrovascular disease has not received so much attention from researchers.

Introducción. Los esteroides androgénicos anabólicos son sustancias sintéticas derivadas de la testosterona, utilizados, entre otros usos, por su efecto trófico sobre el tejido muscular. Su consumo puede producir una serie de efectos adversos sobre el organismo, entre los que destacan la supresión del eje hipotálamo-pituitario-gonadal, alteraciones hepáticas, psiquiátricas y cardiovasculares, y los efectos más frecuentes al respecto son la alteración del perfil lipídico y de las cifras tensionales, la remodelación cardíaca, la producción de arritmias o el infarto de miocardio. Caso clínico. Varón joven, con antecedentes de abuso de esteroides androgénicos anabólicos, que consulta por focalidad neurológica hemisférica derecha aguda en relación con un ictus isquémico. El estudio etiológico, incluyendo monitorización cardíaca, estudio ecocardiográfico, de imagen (resonancia magnética y arteriografía) y analítico (trombofilia, serologías, autoinmunidad, marcadores tumorales), no mostró alteraciones. Conclusiones. La asociación entre consumo de esteroides androgénicos anabólicos y patología cardiovascular es conocida,pero no se ha estudiado tanto su relación con la patología cerebrovascular (AU)
