RESUMEN

The aim of the study was to design a textile material as a carrier for dermatological drugs. Cotton fabric was chosen for experimentation to be a fibrous support for the system. Additional components were a drug carrier in form of synthetic hydrogel impregnation (partially crosslinked poly(acrylic acid) and a bioactive agent dithranol) dispersed within the gel. The rate of release of the drug from the fibrous system was measured in aqueous media and depended on the concentration of dithranol. The structure and physical properties of the material were designed and controlled in order to ensure the optimal contact with the skin. Clinical studies were carried out with psoriatic patients. The results of the treatment with the textile material containing dithranol were presented using a computer optimalization method. In conclusion it was asserted that this type of textile-based medical device is effective and in many respects more convenient and less troublesome alternative in the treatment of psoriasis as compared to conventional treatments with dithranol suspended in ointments and creams.

RESUMEN

In 85 patients with alopecia areata the frequency of thyroid disease was assessed on the basis of history data, clinical examination and determination of T3, T4, TSH and presence of antithyroid antibodies of different specificity (ATMA, ATg, AMD). Among these patients abnormalities of thyroid structure and function were significantly more frequent (78%) than in the control group (33%). In 11% of the patients autoimmune thyroid disease was present (Graves-Basdow disease, Hashimoto thyroiditis). In 86 controls no cases of autoimmune diseases were found. In some patients only a slight enlargement of the thyroid was present (grade OB, I.).

RESUMEN

2% Erythromycin solution was applied topically in 20 patients with papulopustular acne vulgaris. The treatment proved beneficial and its results were similar to those obtained in the group of patients who additionally received Erythromycin systemically.

RESUMEN

Dermal examinations, including functional tests, were carried out in 628 housing factory workers. Patch tests with chromium, cobalt and nickel were performed. Allergy ranged within 3--16%, varying with the workstations of the test workers. In view of chemical stimuli of strong basic effects in the construction industry environment, studies aimed at evaluating an impact of acid soaps upon the pH regeneration time on the skin surface were undertaken. Unlike alkaline soaps, acid soaps decrease skin surface pH, the pH recovery time being much shorter on their use.

RESUMEN

Basing on the determination of ID50 and IT50 after Kligman and Wooding but involving our own modification, the primarily irritating effect of certain industrial substances on experimental animals' and humans' skin was comparatively evaluated. Mutual experimental studies have been carried out in Dermatological Clinics in Leipzig and Rostock and Dermatological Clinic at the Medical Academy of Lódz. The results were found to be generally consistent in humans and animals. Extension of international cooperation and information and results on the determination of industrial substances adverse effects seem to be necessary.

RESUMEN

In 16 eczematous patients at the time of active pathologic changes, pH was determined on the skin surface as well as the changes resulting from washing with a soap. In addition, the regeneration time of the skin acid reaction was checked. In 10 patients the study was repeated after 10 months, after the clinical changes have subsided. The results indicated a subsistence of the regeneration disturbances in the skin surface acid reaction, which is also exhibited by the comparison with the control group.
