RESUMEN

A short review is given about some of the data reported in the literature on dehydroepiandrosterone and its derivatives, delta 5-androstenediol (hermaphrodiol) and sexual steroid binding globulin (SHBG) in breast cancer patients. The reported results lead to hypothesis that a decreased SHBG binding activity may be found in these patients.

RESUMEN

The fundamental histological findings about endometrial and ovarian changes during the menstrual cycle by Robert Schröder (1884-1959) are passed in review and some actual conceptions of the regulation of the ovarian cycle are cited. In addition, general findings of molecular processes during gonadotropin actions in follicular cells are described, e.g. activation and desensitization of adenylyl cyclase, the role of 3',5'-adenosinmonophosphate and down-regulation of gonadotropin receptors. In general, the progress in cycle research since the work of R. Schröder was done consists in the transition from the histological description of endometrial changes to recognition of intracellular events which have to be considered by gynaecologists.

RESUMEN

Some parameters about the metabolism of androgens in men and women taken from other papers have been compiled in five tables. Most of the female figures are completed by estimations for pregnant women. The transport proteins for androgens in plasma are also regarded.

RESUMEN

The excretion of the C19O2-fraction of 17-oxosteroids in urine (C) and the concentration of testosterone in serum (T) have been compared in 15 women with hirsutism during tests with suppression of the adrenals and the ovary and with stimulation of the ovary. The behaviour of both parameters seemed to be only qualitatively similar in all three phases of the tests. In one of the test phases a statistically significant correlation between the percentage of decrease or increase of C and T has been observed (First phase: r = 0.242; second phase; r = 0.457; third phase r = 0.392). The mean relative changes of C in the adrenal suppression phase was more distinct (P less than 0.002) than that of T. Both parameters seem to be of different diagnostic meaning.

RESUMEN

Pregnant women with imminent miscarriage were treated with Partusisten and/or Dilatol for tocolysis beginning in the 29. week of pregnancy. During treatment the mean urinary excretion of total oestrogens (n = 35; p less than 0,01 in 36th week of pregnancy and later) and the mean plasma level of HPL increased (n = 8; p less than 0,01 in 33., 34. and 35. week of pregnancy). These changes have to be concidered in judging the fetoplacental unit or the function of placenta.

RESUMEN

832 estimations of heat stable alkaline phosphatase (HSAP) and of heat alkaline phosphatase (HLAP) were carried out simultaneously in late pregnant women at 25th to the 42nd weeks of pregnancy. 147 of them delivered children with normal birth-weight. All these women suffered from pre-eclampsia, hypertension or any kind of superimposed pre-eclampsia. 110 other pregnant women with or without symptoms of pre-eclampsia gave birth to small for dates babies. In addition, the values of these patients were compared with 372 estimations of the same enzymes carried out in 120 patients with normal pregnancy and outcome of normal weighted children. The site of the values of every group showed no typical correlation to the course and outcome of their pregnancy. Regarding four special criterions it was possible to give a good prediction by serial determinations for the weight of the newborn in 80 per cent of the cases. A correlation between the urinary excretion of total oestrogens as well as HLAP and the values of HSAP was to be found only in some groups of patients.
