RESUMEN

In an experiment performed on pigs, methods of light and scanning electron microscopy were used to study the interaction of zirconium and titanium dental implants with bone 6 months following their insertion. Distinct features of integration of both implant types with bone structures were detected. Sites of direct contact of bone structures with metal were found to undergo constant remodeling according to biochemical and metabolic conditions in each zone of an implant surface. Statistically the degree of interactive properties of zirconium implants significantly exceeded similar parameter for titanium screws. Along the perimeter of the zones of bone contact with zirconium implants greater numbers of forming and formed bone areas were revealed as compared to the zones of bone contact with titanium implants, where erosion lacunae were more numerous. The complex of research methods used in this study have not revealed distinct changes in the structure of osteocytes, located in immediate proximity to the metal surface in comparison with more distant sites in the bone.

RESUMEN

The incidence of hypoplasia in children with congenital and hereditary developmental defects of the central nervous system and the locomotor system is high (44.5 +/- 3.5%), much higher than the incidence of hypoplasia in children without neurological disorders (2.0 +/- 2.0%). This is explained by exposure of the fetus and newborn to numerous intensive factors complicating the biological anamnesis because of profound disturbances of the metabolic processes and largely responsible for the underlying neurological disease and defects of hard dental tissues presenting as hypoplasia of the enamel.

RESUMEN

Twelve patients with hemangiomas of maxillofacial soft tissues aged 9 months to 15 years were examined by B-mode echography and color doppler imaging of the bloodstream. Combination of these two methods helps confirm the presence of a vascular neoformation, assess its dissemination, volume, and syntopy, specify the morphological variant of its structure, evaluate bloodstream velocity in various parts of the neoplasm. The notion of bloodstream intensity is introduced for the first time, reflecting the number of actively functioning vessels per unit of tumor volume. Causes of artefact appearance have been detected and approaches to their elimination out outlined. Echographic signs permitting selection of the optimal treatment strategy for each patient have been defined.

RESUMEN

The intensity of restructuring of various types of bone transplants and reaction of the adjacent tissues of the femoral distal epiphysis to these transplants was studied in rat experiments. The most manifest bone-inducing properties were detected in demineralized allobone, the least so in formalin-treated one; lyophilized and frozen transplants occupy an intermediate position between these two. These data are recommended to be borne in mind when replacing mandibular defects.
