RESUMEN

An 8-month-old male American Staffordshire terrier was referred for a no-weightbearing lameness of the right pelvic limb, hyperthermia, lethargy and inappetence. Two months before, endocarditis was diagnosed and treated in another veterinary hospital. Orthopedic, radiographic and tomographic examinations revealed a bone sequestrum of 4 × 1.4 cm and active periosteal reaction of the caudo-lateral cortical in the metaphysis and the distal third of the right femoral diaphysis, medullary osteolysis and interruption of the cranio-medial cortical profile, with involvement of the femoral trochlea leading to a secondary medial patella luxation. Hematogenous osteomyelitis was the suspected diagnosis. Once skeletally mature, after 4 months from surgical debridement and aggressive antibiotic therapy against Klebsiella oxytoca revealed by a bacteriological exam, the patient underwent prosthetic surgery for the application of a custom-made patellar groove replacement (PGR) to fill the bone defect and restore the femoral trochlea surface. Despite the serious injury that afflicted the right pelvic limb, the surgery had satisfactory outcomes until the last 18-month postoperative follow up.

RESUMEN

We describe a case of a 65-year-old woman affected by hemangiopericytoma/solitary fibrous tumor of the right shoulder-subclavian region. Hemangiopericytoma/solitary fibrous tumor is a rare tumor of uncertain malignancy. She reports shoulder pain and inability to abduct the arm and elevate the shoulder. Imaging showed erosion of the scapula. The patient underwent 5 sessions of "on demand" embolization in the previous 2 years scheduled for recurrence of symptoms-swelling of tissues. Further 2 treatments were achieved through embolization via 2 different microballoon catheter combined with percutaneous cryoablation with 5 probes. Images after the treatment demonstrate a marked reduction in the hypervascularized area and an increase in the necrosis area. So, this combined treatment is safety and reproducible also in extrahepatic tissue.

RESUMEN

The dissemination of severe acute respiratory syndrome linked to the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, prompted all health services to provide adequate measures to limit new cases that could affect healthcare professionals. Due to the large number of suspected patients subjected to CT scans and the proximity of radiologists to the patient during exams, radiologists as well as the entire staff of the radiology department are particularly exposed to SARS-CoV-2. This article includes the emergency management procedures, the use of personal protective devices, and the rearrangement of exam rooms and of human resources in the department of radiology at "Policlinico Tor Vergata" in Rome performed during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. We introduce the management measures that our department has taken to cope with the influx of patients while still ensuring the proper management of other emergencies and time-sensitive exams.

RESUMEN

We describe the case of a 41-year-old woman who developed a liver neoplasm due to previous Fontan surgery for a single ventricle anomaly and pacemaker implantation. She was admitted to our hospital for moderate ascites and she was affected by hepatocellular carcinoma treated by trans-arterial chemoembolization (TACE). Computed tomography showed features of chronic liver disease and 4 cm hepatic nodules with arterial enhancement. Laboratory analyses documented preserved liver function and increased levels of alpha-fetoprotein. TACE was performed obtaining complete necrosis at 4 weeks of follow up and significant reduction of alpha-fetoprotein after 2 months. The patient is currently in follow-up, being evaluated for further treatments and/or combined liver/heart transplantation. TACE is a therapeutic option for the treatment of patients with unresectable HCC and with severe heart disease, like those submitted to FS.
