RESUMEN

Exploring emerging two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) semiconducting materials and precisely tuning their electronic properties at the atomic level have long been recognized as crucial issues for developing their high-end electronic and optoelectronic applications. As a III-VI semiconductor, ultrathin layered hexagonal GaTe (h-GaTe) remains unexplored in terms of its intrinsic electronic properties and band engineering strategies. Herein, we report the successful synthesis of ultrathin h-GaTe layers on a selected graphene/SiC(0001) substrate, via molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). The widely tunable quasiparticle band gaps (∼2.60-1.55 eV), as well as the vdW quantum well states (QWSs) that can be strictly counted by the layer numbers, are well characterized by onsite scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS), and their origins are clearly addressed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. More intriguingly, distinctive 8|8E and 4|4P (Ga) mirror twin boundaries (MTBs) are identified in the ultrathin h-GaTe flakes, which can induce decreased band gaps and prominent p-doping effects. This work should deepen our understanding on the electronic tunability of 2D III-VI semiconductors by thickness control and line defect engineering, which may hold promise for fabricating atomic-scale vertical and lateral homojunctions toward ultrascaled electronics and optoelectronics.

The randomized controlled study investigated the impacts of immediate peri-operative Intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) on hemodynamic indicators in patients undergoing laparoscopic gynecologic surgery. Patients scheduled for elective laparoscopic gynecologic surgery were randomized to control (IPC not used), pre-operative IPC, post-operative IPC, and peri-operative IPC (performed both before and after surgery) groups. Systolic blood pressure (SBP), mean blood pressure (MBP) cardiac output (CO), heart rate (HR) and systemic vascular resistance (SVR) were measured at different time points. The results showed that SBP changes not obviously over time in the control and peri-operative IPC group. Compared with values before surgery, the pre-operative IPC group had a lower SBP (P < 0.01) at the end of PACU stay, whereas the post-operative IPC group had a higher SBP (P < 0.01) after surgery. All groups exhibited little or no variation in HR, CO and SVR. Conclusion is peri-operative IPC has no major adverse effects on hemodynamic parameters.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers in the world, with characteristics of high morbidity and mortality. Identifying clinically practical targets and uncovering the potential mechanism for HCC were urgent for us. Though aberrantly expressed miR-99b-3p has been reported in several cancers, the expression and roles of miR-99b-3p in HCC remain uncovered. In the present study, we demonstrated for the first time that miR-99b-3p was overexpressed in HCC by our findings and data from GEO datasets. Statistical analysis revealed that highly expressed miR-99b-3p was closely related to malignant clinicopathological characteristics and poorer prognosis of HCC patients. Furthermore, results from Wound healing assay, Transwell assays, 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT)assay and 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) assay revealed that miR-99b-3p played a promoting role in migration, invasion and proliferation of HCC cells. Then, by bioinformatics tools, luciferase reporter gene assay, integrative database analysis, and Pearson correlation analysis and so on, protocadherin 19 (PCDH19) was identified as the target of miR-99b-3p in HCC cells. Furthermore, rescue experiments were conducted to confirm the mediator role of PCDH19 for miR-99b-3p. Collectively, we demonstrate that miR-99b-3p promotes HCC metastasis and proliferation by directly targeting PCDH19. MiR-99b-3p may become a potential therapy target for HCC.
