RESUMEN

High-entropy oxides (HEOs) exhibit distinctive catalytic properties owing to their diverse elemental compositions, garnering considerable attention across various applications. However, the preparation of HEO nanoparticles with different spatial structures remains challenging due to their inherent structural instability. Herein, ultrasmall high-entropy oxide nanoparticles (less than 5 nm) with different spatial structures are synthesized on carbon supports via the rapid thermal shock treatment. The low-symmetry HEO, BiSbInCdSn-O4, demonstrates exceptional performance for electrocatalytic carbon dioxide reaction (eCO2RR), including a lower overpotential, high Faraday efficiency across a wide electrochemical range (-0.3 to -1.6 V), and sustained stability for over100 h. In the membrane electrode assembly electrolyzer, BiSbInCdSn-O4 achieves a current density of 350 mA cm-2 while maintaining good stability for 24 h. Both experimental observations and theoretical calculations reveal that the electron donor-acceptor interactions between bismuth and indium sites in BiSbInCdSn-O4 enable the electron delocalization to facilitate the efficient adsorption of CO2 and hydrogenation reactions. Thus, the energy barrier of the rate-determining step is reduced to enhance the electrocatalytic activity and stability. This study elucidates that the spatial structure of metal sites in HEOs is able to regulate CO2 adsorption status for eCO2RR, paving the way for the rational design of efficient HEO catalysts.

Introduction: The impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on diabetic kidney disease (DKD) patients in China is not fully understood. This study aimed to investigate infection status in a DKD cohort post-renal biopsy and analyze vaccination and infection rates, as well as symptom severity, across various renal pathologies in DKD patients. Methods: This epidemiological survey, centered on COVID-19, employed a Chinese DKD and renal puncture follow-up cohort. A customized questionnaire enabled standardized data gathering. It collected data on clinical characteristics, vaccination and infection statuses, and diverse pathological types. The study analyzed the relationship between vaccination and infection statuses across various pathological types, evaluating characteristics and treatment outcomes in patients with infections. Results: In total, 437 patients with DKD from 26 Chinese provinces were followed up for a median of 44.6 ± 20 months. COVID-19 infection, vaccination, and novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) rates were 73.68%, 59.3%, and 6.63%, respectively. Ten patients with NCP had severe pneumonia or died of COVID-19. Renal pathology revealed that 167 (38.22%) patients had diabetic nephropathy (DN), 171 (39.13%) had non-diabetic renal disease (NDRD), and 99 had DN and NDRD (22.65%). The DN group had the lowest vaccination (54.5%), highest all-cause mortality (3.6%), and highest endpoint rates (34.10%). Compared to patients who were not vaccinated pre-infection (117 cases), vaccinated patients (198 cases) had reduced NCP (6.6% vs. 13.7%), severity (1.0% vs. 3.4%), and endpoint (9.10% vs. 31.60%) rates. Conclusion: Vaccination can prevent infection and diminish COVID-19 severity in patients with DKD; therefore, increasing vaccination rates is particularly important. We aimed to test whether red blood cell distribution width (RDW) to monocyte percentage ratio (RMR) was associated with the acute-phase prognosis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Prospective enrollment and 90-day follow-up of CKD patients with COVID-19 were conducted from December 1, 2022 to January 31, 2023. Demographics, clinical data, and laboratory and radiographic findings were collected, and multiple logistic regression, subgroup analysis, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were performed. A total of 218 patients were enrolled, with a mean age of 59 years and 69.7% being male. The 90-day mortality rate was 24.8%. The lnRMR level was 5.18 (4.91-5.43) and emerged as an independent risk factor (OR: 3.01, 95% CI: 1.72-5.85). The lnRMR-mortality association was consistent across sex, age, CKD stage, COVID-19 vaccination, and comorbidity subgroups. The area under the ROC curve of lnRMR was 0.737 (95% CI: 0.655-0.819). Our findings indicate that lnRMR is a simple and practical predictor for identifying high-risk CKD patients during the acute phase of COVID-19.

This study evaluates the effects of general fatiguing exercises on anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs), compensatory postural adjustments (CPAs), and standing stability between 18 individuals with comprehensive training experience (TR) and 18 untrained individuals (UT). Assessments were conducted before and after a 20-min fatiguing exercise using surface electromyography and a force platform during self-initiated perturbation and postural stability tests. Key findings include that, irrespective of fatigue, the APAs onsets in the TrA/IO (p = 0.004), LMF (PRE p = 0.003, POST p < 0.001), and ST (PRE p = 0.001, POST p = 0.006) muscles activated earlier in the TR group than in the UT group. Additionally, the APA co-contraction indices of the TrA/IO-LMF (PRE p = 0.011, POST p = 0.029), TrA/IO-ST (p = 0.014), and LMF-ST (PRE p = 0.002, POST p = 0.005) muscle pairs were higher in the TR group. After fatigue, the UT group significantly increased CPA co-contraction indices for the TrA/IO-LMF (p = 0.035) and LMF-ST (p = 0.005) muscle pairs. This research highlights the importance of comprehensive training in facilitating feedforward control strategies, particularly for individuals facing challenging postural conditions, such as fatigue or disturbances.

Background: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) and diabetic retinopathy (DR) are common microvascular complications of diabetes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between retinal vascular geometric parameters and pathologically diagnosed type 2 DN and to determine the capacity of retinal vascular geometric parameters in differentiating DN from non-diabetic renal disease (NDRD). Methods: The study participants were adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and chronic kidney disease who underwent a renal biopsy. Univariate and multivariable regression analyses were performed to evaluate associations between retinal vessel geometry parameters and pathologically diagnosed DN. Multivariate binary logistic regression analyses were performed to establish a differential diagnostic model for DN. Results: In total, 403 patients were examined in this cross-sectional study, including 152 (37.7%) with DN, 157 (39.0%) with NDRD and 94 (23.3%) with DN combined with NDRD. After univariate logistic regression, total vessel fractal dimension, arteriolar fractal dimension and venular fractal dimension were all found to be associated with DN. In multivariate analyses adjusting for age, sex, blood pressure, diabetes, DR and other factors, smaller retinal vascular fractal dimensions were significantly associated with DN (P < .05). We developed a differential diagnostic model for DN combining traditional clinical indicators and retinal vascular geometric parameters. The area under the curve of the model established by multivariate logistic regression was 0.930. Conclusions: Retinal vessel fractal dimension is of great significance for the rapid and non-invasive differentiation of DN. Incorporating retinal vessel fractal dimension into the diagnostic model for DN and NDRD can improve the diagnostic efficiency.

Purpose: To investigate the clinical characteristics of hospitalized patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) infection and identify potential risk factors that contribute to mortality. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective study, conducted on patients with CKD who were admitted to the First Medical Center of the People's Liberation Army General Hospital between December 1, 2022, and February 28, 2023. All patients were also infected with SARS-CoV-2. We analyzed the clinical characteristics of patients, and the patients were categorized into a survival group and a death group whose characteristics were compared. Cox regression analysis was used to identify risk factors that affected patient prognosis. Results: A total of 406 patients were enrolled in this study, including 298 males (73.4%). The average age was 80.5 (67.0, 88.0) years, and the patients had an average estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of 50.3 (25.0-79.0) mL/min/1.73m². A total of 158 individuals died during hospitalization, resulting in a mortality rate of 38.9%. Renal function was worse in the death group than in the survival group (P < 0.001). Patients in the death group had more severe COVID-19 disease and higher CKD staging than those in the survival group (all P values < 0.001). Multivariate Cox regression analysis identified several risk factors that affected patient mortality, including being male, a higher resting heart rate (RHR) upon admission, dyspnea, a low lymphocyte count (Lym), a high international standardized ratio (INR), a high Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) score, heart failure, and the need for mechanical ventilation during the disease. Conclusion: Hospitalized patients with CKD who were infected with SARS-CoV-2 (38.9%) had a relatively high mortality rate (38.9%). Furthermore, a marked correlation was observed between a reduced eGFR and an increased risk of mortality.

Background: Chinese Martial Arts (CMAs) have garnered a global following, with their rich historical and cultural heritage transcending geographical and cultural differences, sparking profound interest among an international community. As an increasing number of non-Chinese individuals persist in practicing CMAs, investigating the motivations behind their continued participation has emerged as a compelling question. This study aims to delve deeper into the factors driving international practitioners to sustain their practice of CMAs, thereby broadening our understanding of the global resonance of CMAs. Methods: Employing Self-Determination Theory, 226 international CMAs practitioners completed the Physical Activity and Leisure Motivation Scale, Perceived Belonging Scale, and Persistence in Practicing CMAs Scale. SPSS 20.0 was utilized for conducting descriptive statistics, common method bias tests, and correlation analyses. Structural equation modeling was performed using AMOS 26.0. Results: Motivation for Practicing CMAs, comprised of enjoyment, mastery, physical condition, psychological condition, and appearance, has a positive impact on Persistence in Practicing CMAs (ß = 0.297, p < 0.01). Sense of Belonging also positively affects Persistence in Practicing CMAs (ß = 0.268, p < 0.01). The aforementioned variables account for 22.1% of the variance in Persistence in Practicing CMAs. Furthermore, Affiliation, Competition/Ego, and Others' Expectations were found to have no significant correlation with Persistence in Practicing CMAs. Conclusion: The formation of persistence in the practice of CMAs among international practitioners is propelled by their ongoing desire for skill mastery, enjoyment, enhanced physical and mental health, body shape improvement, and a Sense of Belonging. The study reveals that a stronger motivation and Sense of Belonging significantly enhance their commitment to CMAs. Recommendations include that international instructors should center their teaching strategies around the practitioners, helping them to find joy in their practice, achieve skill mastery, and foster the development of physical, mental, and aesthetic qualities, alongside virtues and etiquette. Additionally, building a supportive CMAs community and cultivating a sense of ritual are essential. Such strategies are intended to reinforce practitioners' self-affirmation and group identity, thus boosting their Sense of Belonging and encouraging their continued engagement in CMAs.

Background: The global dissemination of Chinese martial arts (CMAs), transcends mere physical activity; it represents a cultural and philosophical journey that contributes to enhanced psychological well-being. Capturing international attention, CMAs have engendered a network of global instructors committed to their cross-cultural teaching. However, the narrative of CMAs across the globe is incomplete without understanding the psychological factors that fuel the perseverance of these international instructors. Their relentless commitment, motivated by factors beyond the cultural and geographical barriers, poses a unique question: What motivates these instructors to persist in teaching CMAs in the face of such challenges? The study aims to uncover the key motivational mechanisms that influence the perseverance of international CMAs instructors in their teaching endeavors. Methods: Employing Self-Determination Theory, 147 international CMAs instructors completed the Motivation for Teaching CMAs Scale, Perceived Belonging Scale, and Perseverance in Teaching CMAs Scale. SPSS 20.0 was utilized for conducting descriptive statistics, common method bias tests, and correlation analyses. Structural equation modeling was performed using AMOS 26.0. Results: Autonomous Motivation positively affected perseverance in teaching CMAs (ß = 0.369, b = 0.465, t = 4.232, p < 0.001). In contrast, Amotivation negatively affected perseverance (ß = -0.323, b = -0.382, t = -3.561, p < 0.001). Neither Controlled Motivation nor Sense of Belonging significantly affected perseverance. The model explained 27.9% of the variance in perseverance, offering insights into the motivational mechanisms influencing international CMAs instructors. Conclusion: This study concludes that the perseverance of international instructors in teaching CMAs is primarily driven by overcoming amotivation and fostering autonomous motivation, rather than short-term internal or external incentives, which appear ineffective. Additionally, sense of belonging to their CMA school does not significantly influence their perseverance, potentially due to the diverse cultural backgrounds of the instructors surveyed. The findings suggest that by enhancing the recognition and acceptance of CMAs' core philosophies and values, aligning teaching practices with personal and cultural values, and fostering a profound passion for CMAs, international instructors could boost their autonomous motivation, which is crucial for their sustained commitment in promoting CMAs globally.

Social pain, a multifaceted emotional response triggered by interpersonal rejection or criticism, profoundly impacts mental well-being and social interactions. While prior research has implicated the right ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (rVLPFC) in mitigating social pain, the precise neural mechanisms and downstream effects on subsequent social attitudes remain elusive. This study employed transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) integrated with fMRI recordings during a social pain task to elucidate these aspects. Eighty participants underwent either active TMS targeting the rVLPFC (n = 41) or control stimulation at the vertex (n = 39). Our results revealed that TMS-induced rVLPFC facilitation significantly reduced self-reported social pain, confirming the causal role of the rVLPFC in social pain relief. Functional connectivity analyses demonstrated enhanced interactions between the rVLPFC and the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, emphasizing the collaborative engagement of prefrontal regions in emotion regulation. Significantly, we observed that negative social feedback led to negative social attitudes, whereas rVLPFC activation countered this detrimental effect, showcasing the potential of the rVLPFC as a protective buffer against adverse social interactions. Moreover, our study uncovered the impact role of the hippocampus in subsequent social attitudes, a relationship particularly pronounced during excitatory TMS over the rVLPFC. These findings offer promising avenues for improving mental health within the intricate dynamics of social interactions. By advancing our comprehension of the neural mechanisms underlying social pain relief, this research introduces novel intervention strategies for individuals grappling with social distress. Empowering individuals to modulate rVLPFC activation may facilitate reshaping social attitudes and successful reintegration into communal life.

BACKGROUND: To provide a new non-invasive method for the differentiation of diabetic nephropathy (DN) from non-diabetic renal disease (NDRD) by assessing retinal microstructure using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS: OCTA parameters were recorded and their relationship with DN was analysed. A differential diagnosis regression model for DN was established, and the diagnostic efficiency was evaluated. RESULTS: Based on the pathological results of renal biopsy, 31 DN patients and 35 NDRD patients were included. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that DN was independently associated with the following parameters: 15.3 mm-1 ≤ vessel density (VD) full < 17.369 mm-1 (odds ratio [OR]=8.523; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.387-52.352; P = 0.021), VD full < 15.3 mm-1 (OR=8.202; 95% CI=1.110-60.623; P = 0.039), DM duration > 60 months (OR=7.588; 95% CI=1.569-36.692; P = 0.012), and estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 (OR=24.484; 95% CI=4.308-139.142; P < 0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.911, indicating a high diagnostic efficiency. CONCLUSIONS: VD full < 17.369 mm-1, DM duration > 60 months, and eGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 may indicate the presence of DN. OCTA may be an effective non-invasive method for identifying DN and NDRD.

In a survey of mycoviruses in Fusarium species that cause sugarcane Pokkah boeng disease, twelve Fusarium strains from three Fusarium species (F. sacchari, F. andiyazi, and F. solani) were found to contain Fusarium sacchari hypovirus 1 (FsHV1), which we reported previously. The genomes of these variants range from 13,966 to 13,983 nucleotides, with 98.6% to 99.9% nucleotide sequence identity and 98.70% to 99.9% protein sequence similarity. Phylogenetic analysis placed these FsHV1 variants within the Alphahypovirus cluster of Hypoviridae. Intriguingly, no clear correlation was found between the geographic origin and host specificity of these viral variants. Additionally, six out of the twelve variants displayed segmental deletions of 1.5 to 1.8 kilobases, suggesting the existence of defective viral dsRNA. The presence of defective viral dsRNA led to a two-thirds reduction in the dsRNA of the wild-type viral genome, yet a tenfold increase in the total viral dsRNA content. To standardize virulence across natural strains, all FsHV1 strains were transferred into a single, virus-free Fusarium recipient strain, FZ06-VF, via mycelial fusion. Strains of Fusarium carrying FsHV1 exhibited suppressed pigment synthesis, diminished microspore production, and a marked decrease in virulence. Inoculation tests revealed varying capacities among different FsHV1 variants to modulate fungal virulence, with the strain harboring the FsHV1-FSA1 showing the lowest virulence, with a disease severity index (DSI) of 3.33, and the FsHV1-FS1 the highest (DSI = 17.66). The identification of highly virulent FsHV1 variants holds promise for the development of biocontrol agents for Pokkah boeng management.

The poor electrocatalytic stability and rapid deactivation of metal electrocatalysts are always present in the electrocatalytic conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) due to the harsh reduction condition. Herein, we demonstrate the controllable dispersion of ultrafine bismuth nanoparticles among the hollow carbon shell (Bi@C-700-4) simply by a thermal-driven diffusion process. The confinement effect of nitrogen-doped carbon matrix is able to low the surface energy of bismuth nanoparticles against the easy aggregation commonly observed for the thermal treatment. On the basis of the synergistic effect and confinement effect between bismuth nanoparticles and carbon matrix, the highly dispersed active sites render the obviously improved electrocatalytic activity and stability for CO2 reduction into formate. The in situ experimental observations on the reduction process and theoretical calculations reveal that the incorporation of bismuth nanoparticles with nitrogen-doped carbon matrix would promote the activation of CO2 and the easy formation of key intermediate (*OCHO), thus leading the enhanced electrocatalytic activity, with a Faradaic Efficiency (FE) of formate about 94.8 % and the long-time stability. Furthermore, the coupling of an anode for 5-hydroxymethylfurfural oxidation reaction (HMFOR) in solar-driven system renders the high 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) yield of 81.2 %, presenting the impressive solar-to-fuel conversion.

The alkaline oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a promising avenue for producing clean fuels and storing intermittent energy. However, challenges such as excessive OH- consumption and strong adsorption of oxygen-containing intermediates hinder the development of alkaline OER. In this study, we propose a cooperative strategy by leveraging both nano-scale and atomically local electric fields for alkaline OER, demonstrated through the synthesis of Mn single atom doped CoP nanoneedles (Mn SA-CoP NNs). Finite element method simulations and density functional theory calculations predict that the nano-scale local electric field enriches OH- around the catalyst surface, while the atomically local electric field improves *O desorption. Experimental validation using in situ attenuated total reflection infrared and Raman spectroscopy confirms the effectiveness of the nano-scale and atomically electric fields. Mn SA-CoP NNs exhibit an ultra-low overpotential of 189 mV at 10 mA cm-2 and stable operation over 100 hours at ~100 mA cm-2 during alkaline OER. This innovative strategy provides new insights for enhancing catalyst performance in energy conversion reactions.

BACKGROUND: Nonmalignant pleural effusion (NMPE) is common and remains a definite health care problem. Pleural effusion was supposed to be a risk factor for acute kidney injury (AKI). Incidence of AKI in NMPE patients and whether there is correlation between the size of effusions and AKI is unknown. OBJECTIVE: To assess the incidence of AKI in NMPE inpatients and its association with effusion size. STUDY DESIGN AND METHOD: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of inpatients admitted to the Chinese PLA General Hospital with pleural effusion from 2018-2021. All patients with pleural effusions confirmed by chest radiography (CT or X-ray) were included, excluding patients with diagnosis of malignancy, chronic dialysis, end-stage renal disease (ESRD), community-acquired AKI, hospital-acquired AKI before chest radiography, and fewer than two serum creatinine tests during hospitalization. Multivariate logistic regression and LASSO logistic regression models were used to identify risk factors associated with AKI. Subgroup analyses and interaction tests for effusion volume were performed adjusted for the variables selected by LASSO. Causal mediation analysis was used to estimate the mediating effect of heart failure, pneumonia, and eGFR < 60 ml/min/1.73m2 on AKI through effusion volume. RESULTS: NMPE was present in 7.8% of internal medicine inpatients. Of the 3047 patients included, 360 (11.8%) developed AKI during hospitalization. After adjustment by covariates selected by LASSO, moderate and large effusions increased the risk of AKI compared with small effusions (moderate: OR 1.47, 95%CI 1.11-1.94 p = 0.006; large: OR 1.86, 95%CI 1.05-3.20 p = 0.028). No significant modification effect was observed among age, gender, diabetes, bilateral effusions, and eGFR. Volume of effusions mediated 6.8% (p = 0.005), 4.0% (p = 0.046) and 4.6% (p < 0.001) of the effect of heart failure, pneumonia and low eGFR on the development of AKI respectively. CONCLUSION: The incidence of AKI is high among NMPE patients. Moderate and large effusion volume is independently associated with AKI compared to small size. The effusion size acts as a mediator in heart failure, pneumonia, and eGFR.

AIM: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are more susceptible to endothelial dysfunction and cardiovascular disease (CV). Remote ischemic preconditioning (rIPC) has been proven efficient in improving endothelial function and lowering the risk of CV. However, the safety and effect of rIPC on endothelial function in patients with CKD have not been effectively assessed. METHODS: 45 patients with CKD (average estimated glomerular filtration rate: 48.4 mL/min/1.73 m2) were randomly allocated to either 7-day daily upper-arm rIPC (4 × 5 min 200 mmHg, interspaced by 5-min reperfusion) or control (4 × 5 min 60 mmHg, interspaced by 5-min reperfusion). Vascular endothelial function was assessed by natural log-transformed reactive hyperemia index (LnRHI) before and after a 7-day intervention. Arterial elasticity was assessed by augmentation index (AI). RESULTS: The results showed that LnRHI could be improved by rIPC treatment (Pre = 0.57 ± 0.04 vs. Post = 0.67 ± 0.04, p = .001) with no changes relative to control (Pre = 0.68 ± 0.06 vs. Post = 0.64 ± 0.05, p = .470). Compared with the control group, the improvement of LnRHI was greater after rIPC treatment (rIPC vs. Control: 0.10 ± 0.03 vs. -0.04 ± 0.06, between-group mean difference, -0.15 [95% CI, -0.27 to -0.02], p = .027), while there was no significant difference in the change of AI@75 bpm (p = .312) between the two groups. CONCLUSION: RIPC is safe and well tolerated in patients with CKD. This pilot study suggests that rIPC seems to have the potential therapeutic effect to improve endothelial function. Of note, further larger trials are still warranted to confirm the efficacy of rIPC in improving endothelial function in CKD patients.

Chrysoviruses are isometric virus particles (35-50 nm in diameter) with a genome composed of double-stranded RNAs (dsRNA). These viruses belonged to the Chrysoviridae family, named after the first member isolated from Penicillium chrysogenum. Phylogenetic classification has divided the chrysoviruses into Alphachrysovirus and Betachrysovirus genera. Currently, these chrysoviruses have been found to infect many fungi, including Fusarium species, and cause changes in the phenotype and decline in the pathogenicity of the host. Thus, it is a microbial resource with great biocontrol potential against Fusarium species, causing destructive plant diseases and substantial economic losses. This review provides a comprehensive overview of three chrysovirus isolates (Fusarium graminearum virus 2 (FgV2), Fusarium graminearum virus-ch9 (FgV-ch9), and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. dianthi mycovirus 1 (FodV1)) reported to decline the pathogenicity of Fusarium hosts. It also summarizes the recent studies on host response regulation, host RNA interference, and chrysovirus transmission. The information provided in the review will be a reference for analyzing the interaction of Fusarium species with chrysovirus and proposing opportunities for research on the biocontrol of Fusarium diseases. Finally, we present reasons for conducting further studies on exploring the interaction between chrysoviruses and Fusarium and improving the accumulation and transmission efficiency of these chrysoviruses.

Atmospheric cadmium (Cd) deposition contributes to the accumulation of Cd in the soil-plant system. Sedum plumbizincicola is a Cd and Zn hyperaccumulator commonly used for the phytoremediation of Cd-contaminated soil. However, studies on the effects of atmospheric Cd deposition on the accumulation of Cd and physiological response in S. plumbizincicola are still limited. A Cd solution spraying pot experiment was conducted with S. plumbizincicola at three atmospheric Cd deposition concentrations (4, 8, and 12 mg/L). Each Cd concentration levels was divided into two groups, non-mulching (foliar-root uptake) and mulching (foliar uptake). The soil type used in the experiment was reddish clayey soil collected from a farmland. The results showed that compared with the non-mulching control, the fresh weight of S. plumbizincicola in non-mulching with high atmospheric Cd deposition (12 mg/L) increased by 11.35%. Compared with those in the control group, the malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the non-mulching and mulching S. plumbizincicola groups increased by 0.88-11.06 nmol/L and 0.96-1.32 nmol/L, respectively. Compared with those in the non-Cd-treated control group, the shoot Cd content in the mulching group significantly increased by 11.09-180.51 mg/kg. Under high Cd depositions, the Cd in S. plumbizincicola mainly originated from the air and was stored in the shoots (39.7-158.5%). These findings highlight that the physiological response and Cd accumulation of S. plumbizincicola were mainly affected by high Cd deposition and suggest that atmospheric Cd could directly be absorbed by S. plumbizincicola. The effect of atmospheric deposition on S. plumbizincicola cannot be ignored.

BACKGROUND: In the process of international communication in Chinese Wushu (ICCW), the government controls the orientation, scale, pace. However, the ICCW currently lacks a standardised government capacity structural system, and a detailed study of framework construction may be required to ensure the smooth development of the ICCW. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to clarify these elements and construct a framework for a governmental capacity system for ICCW. METHODS: For this purpose, an expert interview outline was designed, and in-depth interviews were conducted with 61 experts. Using grounded theory in the qualitative research method, NVivo 12 software was used to conduct a three-level coding analysis of the interview text for data processing and analysis. RESULTS: We extracted 58 opening codes and 11 tree nodes and categorised them into three core categories: supply side government capacity, environment-side government capacity, and demand-side government capacity, accounting for 62.36 %, 24.76 %, and 12.86 % of the total, respectively, which jointly constructed the framework structure system of the governmental capacity system for the ICCW. CONCLUSIONS: This study found that these three-dimensional government capacities have synergistic effects and that multiple measures work together. The government should ensure the supply side's direct promotion effect; the environmental side's indirect influencing effect; and the demand side's internal driving effect to promote ICCW. Meanwhile, a closed-loop systematic study of communication processes should be conducted in combination with communication organisations and individuals.

Introduction: There are no standardized assessment criteria for selecting nutritional risk screening tools or indicators to assess reduced muscle mass (RMM) in the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria. We aimed to compare the consistency of different GLIM criteria with Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and protein-energy wasting (PEW). Methods: In this study, nutritional risk screening 2002 first four questions (NRS-2002-4Q), Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 (NRS-2002), Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST), and Mini-Nutritional Assessment Short-Form (MNA-SF) tools were used as the first step of nutritional risk screening for the GLIM. The RMM is expressed using different metrics. The SGA and PEW were used to diagnose patients and classify them as malnourished and non-malnourished. Kappa (κ) tests were used to compare the concordance between the SGA, PEW, and GLIM of each combination of screening tools. Results: A total of 157 patients were included. Patients with Chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 1-3 accounted for a large proportion (79.0%). The prevalence rates of malnutrition diagnosed using the SGA and PEW were 18.5% and 19.7%, respectively. The prevalence of GLIM-diagnosed malnutrition ranges from 5.1% to 37.6%, depending on the different screening methods for nutritional risk and the different indicators denoting RMM. The SGA was moderately consistent with the PEW (κ = 0.423, p < 0.001). The consistency among the GLIM, SGA, and PEW was generally low. Using the NRS-2002-4Q to screen for nutritional risk, GLIM had the best agreement with SGA and PEW when skeletal muscle index (SMI), fat-free mass index (FFMI), and hand grip strength (HGS) indicated a reduction in muscle mass (SGA: κ = 0.464, 95% CI 0.28-0.65; PEW: κ = 0.306, 95% CI 0.12-0.49). Conclusion: The concordance between the GLIM criteria and the SGA and PEW depended on the screening tool used in the GLIM process. The inclusion of RMM in the GLIM framework is important. The addition of HGS could further improve the performance of the GLIM standard compared to the use of body composition measurements.

Single-atom alloys (SAAs) show great potential for a variety of electrocatalytic reactions. However, the atomic orbital hybridization effect of SAAs on the electrochemical reactions is unclear yet. Herein, the in situ confinement of vanadium/molybdenum/tungsten atoms on bismuth nanosheet is shown to create SAAs with rich grain boundaries, respectively. With the detailed analysis of microstructure and composition, the strong p-d orbital hybridization between bismuth and vanadium enables the exceptional electrocatalytic performance for carbon dioxide (CO2 ) reduction with the Faradaic efficiency nearly 100% for C1 products in a wide potential range from -0.6 to -1.4 V, and a long-term electrolysis stability for 90 h. In-depth in situ investigations with theoretical computations reveal that the electron delocalization toward vanadium atoms via the p-d orbital hybridization evokes the bismuth active centers for efficient CO2 activation via the σ-donation of O-to-Bi, thus reduces protonation energy barriers for formate production. With such fundamental understanding, SAA electrocatalyst is employed to fabricated the solar-driven electrolytic cell of CO2 reduction and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural oxidation, achieving an outstanding 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid yield of 90.5%. This study demonstrates a feasible strategy to rationally design advanced SAA electrocatalysts via the basic principles of p-d orbital hybridization.
