RESUMEN

The authors report on 58 patients with ureteral stump disease. Therapeutic errors, certain specific conditions, but also nephrectomies done for diseases other than pyelo-calyceal tumors and tuberculosis may increase the severity of ureteral stump pathology. The clinical symptoms are often vague, and are demonstrated too late. The incidence may be reduced and the outcome improved by removal of the ureter whenever favourable conditions for development exist, and by looking for them by efficient exploration and complete excision, if nephrectomy is followed by even less marked changes.

RESUMEN

Taking into consideration the frequency of urethral lesions in the frame of uro-genital tuberculosis, and their serious effects on the renal tissue it becomes apparent that either conservative or radical surgical therapies should be applied when their extension make it mandatory. Besides prevention of development, or of the maintenance of vesical lesions can be obtained. On the basis of a statistic covering 1 440 cases of renal tuberculosis a total figure of 492 nephrectomies is found and 130 total nephro-uretherectomies. The transperitoneal pathway is suggested, that does not imply any risks and generally characterized by a benign post-operative evolution, which allows also for the simultaneous solution of eventual tuberculous genital lesions, both in men and in women.

RESUMEN

130 total nephroureterectomies were performed for advanced renal tuberculosis with multiple ureteric stenoses. The important part played by ureteric lesions in maintaining vesical foci after simple nephrectomy is emphasised. The operation performed through the lumbar and intraperitoneal route does not carry any risk.
