RESUMEN

We report here the fabrication of a robust, highly sensitive, reliable and reproducible phenyl hydrazine chemical sensor using Ag-doped ZnO nanoflowers as efficient electron mediators. The Ag-doped ZnO nanoflowers were synthesized by facile hydrothermal process at low-temperature and characterized in detail in terms of their morphological, structural, compositional and optical properties. The detailed morphological and structural characterizations revealed that the synthesized nanostructures were flower-shaped, grown in very high-density, and possessed well-crystalline structure. The chemical composition confirmed the presence of Ag into the lattices of Ag-doped ZnO nanoflowers. High sensitivity of ≈ 557.108 ± 0.012 mAcm(-2)(mol L(-1))(-1) and detection limit of ≈ 5 × 10(-9) mol L(-1) with correlation coefficient (R) of 0.97712 and short response time (10.0 s) were observed for the fabricated chemical sensor towards the detection of phenyl hydrazine by using a simple current-voltage (I-V) technique. Due to high sensitivity and low-detection limit, it can be concluded that Ag-doped ZnO nanoflowers could be an effective candidate for the fabrication of phenyl hydrazine chemical sensors.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma is a histological type of marginal zone non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Its clinical features and prognosis have seldom been reported because of its indolent clinical course. AIM: To establish prognostic factors that should be considered for the staging and management of this disease. METHODS: Clinical data of 40 pathologically confirmed gastric lymphoma patients, treated during a period of 13 years, were analyzed. RESULTS: Of the 40 patients, 65% had stage IE - II1E disease and 35% had stage II2E - IV disease. A total of 18 patients received surgeries.Eighteen patients had chemotherapy and 10 patients had Helicobacter Pylori eradication therapy. The complete remission rate after treatment was 50%. The patients were followed up for a median of 26.75 months. The 5-year overall survival rate was 70%. Early stage at presentation, surgery, normal lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) levels and Helicobacter Pylori infection were associated with longer survival in univariate analysis. CONCLUSION: This study suggested that surgery might be an important factor predicting the long-term survival of patients with primary gastric lymphoma. Patients with poor prognostic factors should be treated more aggressively.

RESUMEN

AIM: To report the clinicopathological data and the treatment outcomes in patients with primary gastric low grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. METHODS: We carried out a retrospective analysis of 16 consecutive patients (median age 46 and range 28-75 years) who presented to our department with histopathological diagnosis of primary gastric low grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. We analyzed clinical manifestations, endoscopic features, pathological features,Helicobacter pylori infection and treatment. RESULTS: Common symptoms included abdominal pain (87.5%),vomiting (62.5%), and gastrointestinal bleeding (25%). Endoscopic appearances were mainly ulcers and ulcerations (93.75%).Endoscopic biopsy confirmation rate reached 87.5% when biopsies were repeated. Helicobacter pylori detection rate was 75%. A total of 9 patients received surgeries. Three patients had chemotherapy and 8 patients had Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy. The range of follow-up was 2-74 months with a median of 27 months. A complete remission was obtained in 12 cases, whereas 1 patient died and 3 were lost of view. CONCLUSION: Eradication therapy may be offered as an initial treatment option in patients with low-grade gastric lymphoma.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Malignant salivary gland tumor usually involves the parotid gland. Although unusual locations have been reported for such tumors, we here report an extremely rare case of nasal location in a salivary gland adenoma with malignant transformation. OBSERVATION: A 65-year-old man with diabetes and hypertension presented with left nasosinal tumefaction causing nasal obstruction with slow evolution and recent onset of epistaxis and slight telecanthus. CT, MRI and nasosinal bone biopsy were performed. Treatment was by surgical exeresis on an external approach. CONCLUSION: Malignant transformation of a pleomorphic adenoma with nasal location is extremely rare and little described in the literature. Imaging found strong signs of malignancy, confirmed on histology. Surgical exeresis was the only effective treatment option.

RESUMEN

We report a 20-year-old woman who presented with a massive portal thrombosis that rapidly extended to the superior and inferior vein cava system causing an acute Budd-Chiari syndrome. The investigations concluded to a primary antiphospholipid syndrome without any other prothrombotic factors. The outcome was fatal, 18 months later, despite anticoagulation, with hepatorenal syndrome and severe liver failure.

RESUMEN

Repair after resection of a temporomandibular ankylosis can raise the problem of cost and supply. This problem was addressed using the method proposed by M. Benoist which appeared to be particularly adapted to the local situation. A series of 61 joints were operated in 43 patients with resection of the ankylosis block and interposition of preformed acrylic resin heads cemented on a mandibular screw. In the immediate post-operative period, the mouth was maintained in the open position and functional rehabilitation began on the day after the operation. With a follow-up of 12 months, buccal opening was satisfactory in all patients, with a maximum between 28 and 43 mm. There were no indications for material removal, even in one case with screw fracture which occurred without functional impairment. This method is economical and technically simple, only requiring low-cost easy-to-use material and should be more widely used in developing countries.
