RESUMEN

Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinic of Kansas City, MO, is growing rapidly in size and recognition. Of course, its excellent treatment services depend upon recruiting a wide range of pediatric specialists. Faced with the challenge of attracting professionals to the heartland, its marketing department and physician recruitment personnel worked together on a CD-ROM designed to catch the attention of physician prospects and encourage them to visit Kansas City to see the hospital firsthand.

The Gift of Life Donor Program in Philadelphia is a long-established organ donor organization working with 150 hospitals in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. This campaign by Aloysius Butler Clark of Wilmington, DE, is designed to inform drivers in the state of Delaware about a new online program that enables them to pledge as organ donors. It is scheduled for launch at the end of September by Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Minner.

The system served more than 233,000 patients last year and generated about dollar 3.71 billion in revenues. Its 2004 annual report, Creating a Community of Caring, presented all this information and more while emphasizing the community-oriented mission to which it adheres. Touching photography and copy serve its purposes admirably.

Two interventional radiologists came to Jupiter Medical Center, Jupiter, Fla., as it was making a number of strategic expansion efforts. Together, the doctors developed a center devoted exclusively to their specialty, committing some of their time to the marketing and outreach education about interventional radiology. Using a multi-faceted marketing approach, the campaign has raised knowledge and awareness of The Vascular Institute to the point of reversing the outflow of patients.

Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell, Iowa, used the theme of an aspen grove for its 2002 annual report. It met the challenge of producing and mailing the usual number of copies while reducing the budget. The effort succeeded by eliminating color print, reducing the number of pages and mailing to "occupants" in its region, instead of designating them by name.

An dollar 80 million expansion plan recently was launched by Prince William Hospital, Manassas, Va. The cornerstone of the plan is the new Hylton Family Birthing Center. The hospital employed a full range of tactics to promote the opening of the birthing center. These ranged from quarterly newsletters to billboards; from tours and radio spots to a newly revised web site. The campaign is characterized by infant testimonials, gentle humor and bright colors.
