RESUMEN
Specific IgG antibodies against Tick-Borne Encephalitis Virus (anti-TBEV) at levels exceeding 60 VIEU/ml were detected in almost 14% of forestry workers and in 1.5% of other healthy persons, residents of the endemic area. Mean levels of anti-TBEV were similar in comparable subgroups of men and women, or subgroups of urban and rural residents, however, increased levels of these antibodies were found in elderly persons.

In 37 out of 613 (6%) residents of north eastern Poland, IgG antibodies to tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) were detected at levels exceeding the diagnostic value of 60 VIEU/ml. The prevalence of the antibodies was not related to sex or place or residence. However, significantly higher antibody levels were found in the group of forest workers than in individuals not professionally connected with forestry.

The authors analysed the dynamics of leukocytes migration inhibitory test and its prognostic aspects in 38 patient with viral hepatitis B. In the first group -- 19 patients with decreasing migration index in the first evaluation (mean value 0.44) it was observed the shorter time of the Hepatitis-BS-antigenemia with the normalisation of hepatic laboratory parameters in comparison to the second group -- 19 patients with normal migration index in the first examination (mean value 0.96). The authors discussed the prognostic meaning of leukocytes migration inhibitory test in the course of viral hepatitis type B.

A plasmid, derived from a naturally occurring strain of Proteus mirabilis, conferred resistance to cephalosporins, apparently mediated by a beta-lactamase indistinguishable from that determined by the chromosomal gene of Escherichia coli K-12. There was evidence for a recombination event between the wild-type plasmid and a defective F factor (Fsp) in the Escherichia coli K-12 culture in which it was stored.

A total of 218 Proteus strains isolated from clinical sources were tested for their susceptibility to three penicillins and two cephalosporins. The ability to beta-lactamase production was examined in 36 of these strains. Proteus mirabilis strains were generally more susceptible to cephalosporins than to penicillins, whereas indole-positive Protei were almost uniformely resistant to cephalosporins as well as to ampicillin and benzylpenicillin but susceptible to carbenicillin. Fairly good correlation was found between the amount and hydrolytic soectryn if beta-lactamase activity and the pattern of resistance to penicillins and cephalosporins in the strains examined. Some observations indicate, however, that the resistance of Proteus bacilli to this group of antibiotics is partly related to permeability barriers in bacterial cell. About 37% of Proteus strains transferred their ampicillin resistance to E. coli K12. Beta-lactamase activities mediated by R plasmids in E. coli cultures were 1.5 to 5 times higher than in respective Proteus donors.
