RESUMEN

Fundamento. (AU)

Background. Allergies are important in Public Health, among the different types Pollen sensitivity, as hypersensitivity to pollen, are pathologies affecting part of the population. Objective. To appreciate the importance of the Pollen sensitivity problem in our region and to relate them to Rhinitis, Asthma, IgE values, and other allergies. Setting. Allergy and Immunology Service (AAIS) of the Hospital Nacional de Clínicas (HNC), in Córdoba city, Central Region of the country. Design. A Cross-sectional study was developed. This is a descriptive study of usefulness for the healthcare administrator because it allows estimating the disease burden significance on the population. It lets to know the sickness Prevalence (P). Population. Clinical Histories (CH) of the patients that attended the AAIS, located in Córdoba city were analyzed. Methods. CH of the patients that attended the AAIS during the years 2008 and 2009 and that the Prick Test was carried out, were processed by using the 2000 Epi-Info Program, 3.3.2. version. Statistically, Chi-square and Confidence Interval were calculated. Results. The Prevalence of Pollen sensitivity was 51.96%. From the total sample, 24.24% was monosensitized patients. Among them, 12.5% were monosensitized to pollens. The rest of the sample (75.76%) were poly-sensitized, from these, 65.33% were sensitized to pollens. Conclusion. Analyzing the obtained Prevalence emerges that Pollen sensitivity represent a problematic that affect more than a half of the studied population. Also it was observed that the pathology presented a comorbidity associated to other types of allergy produced by mites or fungus, among others, for the majority of the patients.(AU)

RESUMEN

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Huperzia saururus (Lam.) Trevis. has an extensive ethnopharmacological use, mainly because of its aphrodisiac properties. The species is consumed as decoctions or infusions in traditional medicine. The purpose of the present research was to determine if Huperzia saururus is able to increase sexual potency by evaluating the ejaculatory response, in the presence of a decoction in spinal cord transected male rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The fictive ejaculation model to record the rhythmic contractions of the bulbospongiosus muscles that accompany ejaculation as an indicator of ejaculation occurrence was used. Sexually experienced male Wistar rats were used. The activation of the fictive ejaculation by the i.v. administration of a decoction was tested, as well as the effects of the oxytocinergic, cholinergic, adrenergic and nitrergic antagonism upon the pro-ejaculatory activity of Huperzia saururus. RESULTS: Decoction (3µg/animal) was able to activate the fictive ejaculation in spinal male rats, producing a statistically significant diminution on the latency of discharge parameter and a statistically significant augment for the number of discharges. Moreover, when sequential treatments using antagonists plus decoction were administered, the effects produced showed that prazosin prevent the pro-ejaculatory effect of the decoction and that the four antagonists assayed blocked the facilitatory effect of Huperzia saururus since the facilitation in the latency of response was prevented, and the number of discharges was reduced. Together these findings support the notion that the decoction exerts an aphrodisiac effect influencing the ejaculatory potency which is partially mediated by oxytocinergic, cholinergic, adrenergic and nitrergic spinal mechanisms. CONCLUSION: In agreement to the ethnopharmacological uses, Huperzia saururus decoction has aphrodisiac properties by influence on the ejaculatory potency.

Introduction: With the objective of develop an epidemiologic study that allow us to know the dietarysupplement (DS) consume (especially of those that contain herbs) in a university community ofCórdoba city, a transversal study was developed. It is important to know which is the DS proportion ofconsume in this community due to the very big and diverse offer of these products present in themarket.Material and Methods: Data were collected by using two surveys applied on university students (EU),and the other one, among university agents or their relatives (AUF), respectively. Results: There was not significant difference in the consume between the EU (10,60% [IC 95 %: 8,44– 12,76]), and the AUF (14,71% [IC 95 %: 12,31 – 17,11]) (X2= 0,38; df= 1, p > 0,05)).Discussion: From the data afforded by the surveys it can be inferred among others, that the mainreason for DS consume are therapeutic purposes. Such asseveration contradicts the DS concept. Thissuggests that DS are inadequately considered as food and that a revision of the actual regulationsshould be done(AU)

It is a well established fact that in many countries smoking is a major cause of preventable death. In recognition of smoking as a priority topic in public health policy, a diagnosis of smoking habits among adolescents from six secondary schools was carried out in the city of Cordoba, Argentina, in order to determine its prevalence. An adapted form of a World Health Organisation (WHO) questionnaire was used as a survey instrument and the gathered data was processed using the Epi-Info program, version 3.3. The results obtained demonstrated, among other considerations, that the prevalence of smoking among this population group was 30.45% (IC 95%= 27.50% – 33.50%) and that 56.80% (IC 95%= 53.60% - 60.00%) had smoked a cigarette at least once in their lives
