RESUMEN

Pulmonary mucormycosis is rare in kidney transplant recipients and has a high mortality rate. We report a case of pulmonary mucormycosis presenting as round pneumonia 1 year and 1 month after the transplant. The diagnosis was confirmed by a percutaneous lung biopsy. A complete resection of the lung mass, followed by intravenous liposomal amphotericin B therapy, saved the life of the patient. In conclusion, early and prompt diagnosis followed by complete resection of the lesion in pulmonary mucormycosis is lifesaving.

RESUMEN

CASE PRESENTATION: A 58-year-old man presented to us with a 1-week history of high-grade fever and progressive dry cough. Four weeks before his presentation, he was diagnosed with COVID-19 infection and needed non-ICU hospital admission with no supplemental oxygen requirements for 6 days and was treated with a 5-day course of remdesivir and 3 weeks of dexamethasone. His steroid dose was commenced on dexamethasone 12 mg bid (four times the recommended dose) for 14 days and then gradually tapered over the remaining 7 days. His history was unremarkable, except for well-controlled asthma. He did not complain of any shortness of breath, weight loss, or loss of appetite. He was never a smoker and denied any alcohol use.

RESUMEN

Perivascular epitheloid cell tumors (PEComas) are rare tumors of malignant potential. There is no normal cell variant to these cells. The family is large and includes angiomyolipoma, clear cell "sugar" tumor amongst others. Imaging modalities are not very diagnostic. The diagnosis hence is often postoperative. A 55-year old female presented to us with ultrasonographic diagnosis of solid mass in the right infrarenal region. Contrast-enhanced computerized sonography (CECT) suggested paraganglioma or a soft tissue retroperitoneal tumor. Laparoscopic excision was successful. The rarity of this pathology and laparoscopic modality of excision prompted us to publish this report.
