RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a clinical condition that promotes a decline in the overall health status of individuals affected, including parameters physical, functional, and psychosocial. This systematic review was conducted to assess effects of whole-body vibration exercise (WBVE) in individuals with CKD. MATERIALS AND METHODS: It was conducted electronic searches in Pubmed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science databases on May 2021. Records were identified and irrelevant studies were excluded based in eligibility criteria. RESULTS: Five studies were included with a mean methodological quality score of 9, considered high quality in PEDRo scale. The studies have shown that the WBVE intervention, when applied low intensity was well tolerated, and no adverse effects; was able to improve the motor performance and strength in frail people, which could benefit the prevention of falls events. However, did not improve the quality of life, and the heart rate variability; and not altered cardiorespiratory parameters. CONCLUSIONS: WBVE intervention promotes a better response in parameters of the motor performance and muscular strength, and interaction bone-muscle. Nevertheless, more studies are needed with this intervention to improve physiological responses, and to understand your recommendation to prevent and reduce the complications and symptoms of the CKD, promoting an active life to these patients. PROTOCOL STUDY REGISTRATION: PROSPERO (CRD42020203295).IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONChronic kidney disease (CKD) is a clinical condition that promotes a decline in the overall health status of individuals affected, including parameters physical, functional, and psychosocial.WBVE program possibility, of good acceptance, efficient as well tolerated by physically deconditioned patients who present difficulty to perform any type of exercise.WBVE protocol can promote changes in the patient with CKD lifestyle and benefits for this population because is an exercise without fatigue, impact, stress, or discomfort.

RESUMEN

This paper investigated the effects over time of different forms of neuromuscular training on hemodynamic responses, the estimated VO2max, and walking performance. 105 older adults were randomly organized into three groups: RGA, RGB, and the Control Group (CG). RGA and RGB did 4 weeks of adaptation phase training and 12 weeks of intervention with different loads: moderate loads for RGB. and higher loads for RGA. A pre- and post-evaluation of the resting heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), double product (DP), estimated VO2max, and walking performance were assessed. Significant differences were observed for SBP, DBP, HR, and DP. For SBP, a post-evaluation reduction was observed only in RGA (p = 0.007) and when comparing RGA with the Control Group (p < 0.000). For the absolute VO2max, a significant improvement was seen in RGB compared to RGA (p = 0.037) and CG (p < 0.000). For the relative VO2max, RGB scored significantly higher than RGA (p < 0.000) and CG (p < 0.000), post-intervention. For the walk test, a significant reduction in completion times was observed for RGA (p = 0.027) and RGB (p < 0.000), and for RGB compared to RGA (p = 0.000) and CG (p < 0.000). Resistance training can be an excellent strategy for hemodynamic and cardiorespiratory improvement in the elderly.

RESUMEN

The exercise could play a central role to the fat management and glucose metabolism what can be a critical role in the health status of diabetic people, but the high intense exercise remains with controversial data about their effects. To identify the effect of the multimodal high-intensity interval training on body composition, lipid profile, and glucose metabolism in elderly diabetics. Methods: Elderly diabetic individuals (n = 48) were randomly divided in a Sedentary Control (SC) group, a Moderate-Intensity Continuous Training (MICT) group, and a High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) group. MICT and HITT were conducted over 60 days, 3x per week, with 40 minutes of exercise. Blood was collected prior to intervention, at four, and at eight weeks subsequently to assess glucose metabolism and lipid profiles. Body composition was determined before and after the intervention period. To verify the normality Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistical test was performed, followed by student "t" test or two-way ANOVA with Bonferroni's post hoc test with significance of 5 % the Cohen's f test to indicate the magnitude of the differences. HIIT significantly lowered cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and significantly lowered blood glucose and glycosylated haemoglobin levels (p<0.05). MICT and HIIT significantly increased levels of high-density lipoprotein, decreased total body mass and body mass index. HIIT resulted in significantly smaller waist circumferences, waist-to-hip ratios, and weight-to-height ratios over 60 days of training. HIIT is more effective than MICT for improving lipid and glycaemic profiles, decreasing body fat, and improving fat distribution elderly diabetics.

MÉTODOS: Participaram do estudo 16 voluntárias.

Osteoporosis is a chronic disease of the human skeleton. OBJECTIVE: To verify the effects of resistance training on bone mineral density (BMD), muscular strength, balance and quality of life in menopausal women taking Alendronate. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixteen female volunteers participated in the study. The volunteers were separated into two groups: resistance training participants (n=9; 49.7±4.2 years) and control group (n=7; 53.8±4.4 years). The following evaluation instruments were used: absorptiometry-DXA (which measured the lumbar spine L2-L4, neck femur, Wards triangle and major trochanter), the Osteoporosis Assessment Questionnaire (OPAQ) and a balance test. The training was applied in 12 months, divided in six cycles with intensity of 70-90 percent of the maximum load (10RM). Parametric tests for intra-group analysis (t or Wilcoxon) and (Anova) for inter-groups, were used. RESULTS: Significant differences in the resistance training group were found in the bones variables: lumbar L2-L4 (6.8 percent, p=0.001), neck femur (4.8 percent, p=0.005) and trochanter (0.76 percent, p=0.005). In addition, significant differences were also found for body balance (21.4 percent, p=0.001), quality of life (9.1 percent, p=0.001) and all muscular strength measurements, such as in leg press 45º (49.3 percent, p<0.001). CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the methodology applied to resistance training can be recommended for menopausal women with low BMD.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to determine the effects of different physical activity (PA) programs on bone density, balance and quality of Life of postmenopausaL women taking concomitant aLendronate. A quasi-experimental study was conducted with 35 volunteers divided into four groups: practitioners of resistance training (RTG, n = 9, 49.8±4.2 years), judo (JUG, n= 11, 52.2 ±5.3 years), water aerobics (WAG, n = 8, 57.1 ±7.4 years) and the control group (CG, n = 7, 53.8±4.4 years). METHODS: The following assessment tools were used: bone mineral density (BMD) measured by dual X-ray absorptiometry of the spine and proximal femur, the 'Osteoporosis Assessment Questionnaire' (OPAQ) and the 'Static Balance Test with Visual Control'. The physical activities were planned for 12 months in cycles with different intensities. A two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for analysis between groups, and a Scheffe post-hoc test was used for multiple comparisons. RESULTS: The multiple comparisons results showed that the RTG and JUG groups were significantly more efficient in the variables studied, including: Lumbar BMD (Δ% = 6.8%, p = 0.001), balance (Δ% = 21.4%, p = 0.01), OPAQ (Δ% = 9.1%, p = 0.005) and Lumbar BMD (Δ% = 6.4%, p = 0.003), balance (Δ% = U%, p = 0.02) and OPAQ (Δ% = 16.8%, p =0.000) compared with the CG. Furthermore, the RTG (Δ% = 4.8%, p =0.02) was significantly better than the WAG for the neck of femur BMD, and the JUG (Δ% = 16.8, p = 0.0003) also demonstrated superiority to the WAG in the OPAQ. CONCLUSIONS: The physical activities studied appear to improve BMD, balance and quality of Life of postmenopausaL women taking a bisphosphonate. In this small sample, the RTG and the JUG groups were superior to the other groups.
