RESUMEN

The article investigates attitude of foreign students to health and a healthy lifestyle. The main practices of maintenance of health and healthy lifestyle are analyzed. The opinions of foreign students related to their health and their modes of dealing with stress in new social cultural conditions are considered. The results of sociological survey carried out in January 2024 covering students of the Kursk State Medical University - foreign students who arrived to receive higher education were chosen as the analysis base. The study established that foreign students more often associate healthy lifestyle with maintenance of mental health, healthy diet and domestic hygiene. At that, considering medicine and physician visits, percentage of respondents attributing these aspects to healthy lifestyle and themselves applying to medical workers is far lower than those giving up bad habits and maintain hygiene. The conclusion is made that it is necessary to increase awareness of foreign students about their rights to receive qualified medical care that will serve as factor increasing confidence in medical institutions and physicians.

RESUMEN

The article is devoted to the analysis of modern approaches to the problem of the health of foreign students who are educational migrants and need medical care, taking into account their current social status and status in the territory of the Russian Federation. The undermining of health, significant psycho-emotional tension and, in general, worries about maintaining health can affect the learning process, therefore it is necessary to determine in whose area of responsibility the health of educational migrants is: whether they themselves are obliged to monitor their condition and organize medical care, whether the university should participate in the organization of medical commissions and examinations, or diasporas, whose members are often foreign students, may have these powers.

RESUMEN

A comparative analysis of the psychological characteristics of the working and non-working population in the context of personal employment, demand and quality life. The study was conducted with the participation of 51 women and 58 men, age 65,35±5,25 years. Randomization into two groups: the 1st group - 59 people of those continuing to work in the field of higher and vocational education; the 2nd group (50 people) consisted of non-working pensioners whose labor activity was related to teaching, taking care of their families, children and grandchildren, the circle of their social contacts is limited by the connections necessary to ensure life. An assessment was made of the orientation of the personality, the level of prevailing needs, the formation and strength of motives, the degree of adequacy of one's own attitude to various life situations, and the psycho-emotional state. It is shown that working pensioners have a higher indicator of the personality's orientation to the task and a low indicator of the personality's orientation to oneself. In the 1st group a stable psycho-emotional state was revealed for a number of functional indicators of a physical, role, social nature, significantly higher indicators of vitality and the physical component of health, they strive to maintain professionalism, financial freedom, and independence. In the 2nd group the desire to overcome social isolation, the desire to develop creativity in oneself prevails. In the 1st and 2nd groups, there were no differences in the levels of the motivational-need sphere. To expand the possibilities of the life potential of an elderly person, it is necessary to study the psychological characteristics older working and non-working population.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Niemann-Pick Disease (NPD) type B is a rare autosomal recessive disease characterised by hepatosplenomegaly and pulmonary disease, highlighted by preserved volumes and diminished diffusion capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO) on pulmonary function tests (PFTs). There is no current accepted treatment for the disease. We present a case of a successful bilateral lung transplant in a patient with a DLCO of 14%, and significant pulmonary changes attributable to NPD type B on computed tomography (CT) chest, and both microscopic and macroscopic assessment of the lung explant. To the author's knowledge this is only the third case of lung transplantation in a patient with NPD type B and is one of two current living patients post lung transplantation for NPD type B. CASE REPORT: A 64-year-old male patient underwent bilateral lung transplantation for NPD type B. Preoperative PFTs demonstrated preserved volumes with significantly decreased DLCO, with imaging showing a diffuse reticular interstitial pattern, typical of chronic fibrotic lung disease. The patient suffered from primary graft dysfunction type 3 in the postoperative period as well as rejection managed with methylprednisolone and intravenous immunoglobulin. The patient improved steadily and was discharged 80 days post-transplantation. CONCLUSIONS: This case is only the third reported case of lung transplantation in a patient with NPD type B and the second case of a patient with NPD type B currently living post-transplantation, being at postoperative day (POD) 267 at the time of manuscript drafting. It demonstrates that lung transplantation, although hazardous, is a viable strategy for treatment in patients with NPD type B who have significant pulmonary involvement.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: to evaluate the efficacy of combination therapy with three antiglaucoma agents (dorzolamide + brimonidine/timolol) for uveal ocular hypertension. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study enrolled 20 patients with anterior uveitis complicated by intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation. Besides standard anti-inflammatory agents, the treatment included IOP-lowering instillations, namely dorzolamide 2% 3 times daily and timolol 0.5% 2 times daily. Those patients whose IOP remained uncompensated were then switched to a three-drug regimen: dorzolamide 2% 3 times daily and a fixed combination of brimonidine 0.2%, an aLPHA2-receptor agonist, and timolol 0.5%, a 3-blocker, 2 times daily (Combigan, Allergan). IOP was measured with Maklakov tonometer three times during the day before the treatment and then three times daily while performing the two- or three-drug combination therapy. RESULTS: The mean initial IOP was 34.57 +/- 0.09 mmHg with daily fluctuations of 5.2 +/- 0.08 mmHg. After starting the unfixed combination therapy (dorzolamide + timolol) the mean IOP decreased by 7.86 +/- 0.07 mmHg. Switching to the three-drug therapy (dorzolamide+ brimonidine/timolol) enabled an additional decrease in IOP by 5.43 +/- 0.06 mmHg. Thus, with the new regimen the total decrease in IOP averaged 13.29 +/- 0.09 mmHg with daily fluctuations of 2.5?0.06 mmHg, which ensured that the target IOP was achieved in all patients. All the drugs were well-tolerated. CONCLUSION: Combination therapy with three antiglaucoma agents in the form of two medications--dorzolamide 2% and brimonidine/timolol fixed combination (Combigan)--is shown to be effective in uveal ocular hypertension patients.

RESUMEN

We studied the influence of correction of iron metabolism and erythron characteristics to normal values in latent iron-deficiency states and mild iron deficiency anemia (IDA) with a hemoglobin level of 130-110 g/l on clinical manifestations of the concomitant coronary heart disease (CHD). The patients were 71 men aged 51.5 +/- 1.1 yr; the control group was comprised 18 age-matched healthy men. CHD and anemia were diagnosed as recommended by RSSC and WHO respectively. Clinical manifestations of both pathologies were compared before and after correction of iron metabolism and erythron characteristics using Sorbifer Durules (Egis, Hungary) in combination with pharmacotherapy ofcardiovascular disorders. Characteristics of iron metabolism and erythron were determined using a Stet Fax 3300 analizer and Vital reagent kits. Sorbifer (200 mg Fe) was given daily for 3 weeks with relevant dietary recommendations. All patients with latent iron-deficiency showed normalization of iron metabolism and those with IDA of both iron metabolism and erythron. In CHD patients, these effects were accompanied by a decrease in the frequency, duration, and intensity of angina, reduced requirement of nitroglycerin, increased tolerance of physical exercises. Also, the severity of co-morbid clinical manifestations (oedema, dyspnoea, palpitation) and heart rate decreased.

RESUMEN

Gluten-sensitive enteropathy (Celiac Disease)--is an autoimmune inflammatory disease, with hyper Regenerative atrophy of the mucous membrane of the small intestine, that is precipitated by the ingestion of gluten, a component of wheat rye, barley, protein. Exclusion of dietary gluten results in healing of the mucosa of the small intestine. The main method of treatment and prevention of complications of celiac disease is strict lifelong adherence to gluten-free diet (AGD), which reduces the quality of life of patients. The labeling of all foods and greater variety of gluten-free products, reducing their cost, psychological support doctors and nutritionists will improve their quality of life.

RESUMEN

Treatment of inflammatory diseases of the upper digestive tract, associated with Helicobacter pylori has recently greatly complicated by the presence of significant number of resistant strains of this microorganism to traditionally used drugs for eradication therapy. Average resistance to metronidazole and clarithromycin in Russia is about 30 and 25% respectively. The article presents the experience of treating patients with metronidazole resistant strains of H. pylori with using triple therapy, which included a drug used nitrofurans--nifuroxazide in suspension, proton pump inhibitors and clarithromycin.

RESUMEN

Change of the oil-degrading activity was studied in psychrophilic microbial strains Rhodococcus spp. DS-07, DS-21 and Pseudomonas spp. DS-09, DS-22 maintained on various media: rich and synthetic with a selective agent. After 2.5 years of storage on rich medium, the oil-degrading activity decreased by 50-60%, whereas this decrease was insignificant in the medium with oil. Passages to selective medium with oil after the storage partly restored the activity. It was found that storage of oil-degrading microorganisms caused loss of biodegradation plasmids. Their recovery and long-term preservation demand the presence of the selective agent in the medium.

RESUMEN

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is an etiological agent of a number of benign and malignant human diseases, such as infectious mononucleosis (IM), Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL), and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). EBV latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) gene (recognized as a viral oncoprotein) of various clinical and geographical origin was found to have different types of amino acid mutations affecting its biological activity. Since there was no information on the strain differences in LMP1 of EBV persisting in Russia, the authors made a sequence analysis of LMP1 samples amplified from the biological materials of Russian patients with IM, HL, and NHL and healthy individuals. The studies have shown that LMP1 variants of Russian origin are a mixed heterogeneous group containing both the earlier characterized and presumably new genetic variants. Among the point amino avid substitutions, the mutations S366T, F106Y, 185L, and E328Q associated with the enhanced transforming activity of a LMP1 molecule and its reduced cytotoxicity. There was no specific association between the certain Russian variants of LMP1 and the specific forms of the disease (IM, HL, and NHL).

RESUMEN

Out of the 30 strains capable of oil degradation at 4-6 degrees C, four were selected by the ability to degrade 40% of the oil substrate present in the growth medium: Rhodococcus spp. DS-07 and DS-21 and Pseudomonas spp. DS-09 and DS-22. We studied the activity of these strains as degraders of oil products of various condensation degrees (crude oil, masut, petroleum oils, benzene resins and ethanol-benzene resins) at 4-6 degrees C. The maximum degrees of degradation of masut and ethanol-benzene resins were observed in Pseudomonas spp. DS-22 (17.2% and 5.2%, respectively). The maximum degradation of petroleum oils and benzene resins was observed in Rhodococcus spp. DS-07 (40% and 16.6%, respectively). The strains provide a basis for developing biodegrader preparations applicable to bioremediation of oil-polluted sites under the conditions of cold climate.

RESUMEN

The coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor (CAR) is a membrane glycoprotein with a cytoplasmic domain, a transmembrane domain and an extracellular region consisting of two immunoglobulin-like domains, an amino-terminal immunoglobulin variable (IgV)-related domain (D1), which is distal to the cell surface, and a proximal IgC2 domain (D2). The coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor has been shown to exhibit tumour suppression activity in human bladder and prostate cancer cells. In the current paper, we demonstrate that CAR is a tumour suppressor in glioma cells and that the extracellular D2 domain is not required for this inhibitory effect. This finding provides a biological basis for the observation that expression of CAR is downregulated in malignant glioma cells. This suggests that strategies to redirect adenoviruses to achieve CAR-independent infection will be necessary to realise the full potential of adenoviral vectors for cancer gene therapy.

RESUMEN

Of 150 cultures capable of degrading petroleum at +6 degrees C, 40 strains growing in the liquid mineral nutrient medium containing petroleum (2%) as a sole source of carbon were selected. Of them, 13 cultures displaying a petroleum degradation rate exceeding 25% were selected. Abilities of these cultures and their associations to utilize fuel oil and its components--oils and benzene resins--were studied. The culture exhibiting degradation rates of fuel oil, its oils, benzene resins, and petroleum amounting to 17, 26, 10, and 51%, respectively, was selected. This culture can be used for cleanup of petroleum pollution under cold climatic conditions.
