RESUMEN

A new conjugate material based on partially reduced graphite oxide (rGO), silver nanoparticles (Ag), and bis(lysinato)zirconium(IV) phthalocyanine complex (ZrPc) was obtained. Its optical properties (absorption and photoluminescence) after dispersion in solvents were examined. The antimicrobial properties were tested to determine the effect of the composite on the following bacterial strains: Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli, which are responsible for many infections and are one of the pathogens the most difficult to treatment. The results obtained for rGO-ZrPc-Ag composite were compared with the properties of GO, GO-ZrPc, and rGO-Ag structures. The influence of the near-infrared irradiation on the antimicrobial activity of ZrPc- and Ag-doped materials against bacteria was observed for very low concentration (0.32mg/mL) of GO-ZrPc to stop the growth of P. aeruginosa in comparison to the nonirradiated sample (41mg/mL). The usefulness of this material in therapy, such as wound infection treatment or endodontic treatment, as antibacterial agent with sustained action was discussed.

RESUMEN

The aim of the paper was to assess the risk of dental caries in students of the Faculty of Stomatology using standard biochemical tests and to answer the question whether Dentobuff tests could be used to study dental caries activity in the 20-25 age group. Sixty-six randomly chosen students of the Faculty of Stomatology, Medical Academy in Lublin have been included in to the study. Clinical examinations of dental state have been performed in all of them and they have been expressed by means of the average number of DMF, DMFs and component Ds. In biochemical examinations a ready-made test from Dentobuff set has been used. Statistically significant dependence between salivary pH and numbers DMF, DMFs and Ds has been found. In assessing the risk of dental caries, the results of Dentobuff should be considered together with other examinations and history data.

RESUMEN

A study of the oral health of workers in flour mills was carried out. The examined group consisted of 40 males and 8 females, currently employed at flour mills. The results of the research indicate the necessity of intensification of stomatological care among mill workers.

RESUMEN

On the basis of literature the authors present the influence of diabetes mellitus on oral health. Diabetes complications as microangiopathy, changes of quantity and quality of saliva, immunodeficiency can cause or modify the course of oral mucosa diseases, periodontal diseases, dental caries.

RESUMEN

The paper presents the clinical description of the masticatory organ and biochemical assessment of dental tissue in a patient employed in a glassworks for 20 years. During 12 years the patient has suffered baldness ("Alopecia areata") and atypical extensive and non-healing cutaneous lesions. Dental examination revealed changes typical of chronic poisoning by cadmium and bismuth compounds.

RESUMEN

A study of the oral health of workers in flour mills was carried out. The examined group consisted of 40 males and 8 females currently employed at flour mills. As much as 93.75% of the workers showed evidence of dental abrasion, particularly of the front teeth. The authors concluded that the dental abrasions in the group are closely related to the work environment.

RESUMEN

The study presents the state of the permanent dentition in 18-year-olds from the rural population. The results show DMF 9.08 which is higher for women (10.66) than for men (7.50). The highest value of DMF has been found in molar teeth which are filled and extracted most often. The health needs concerning filling of teeth are higher in women than in men, they are higher in maxilla than in mandibula. The endodontic health and extraction needs are higher in women than in men; for both sexes they are higher in maxilla and it concerns lateral teeth.

RESUMEN

Oral hygiene status was assessed in 183 children aged 10, 11 and 12 years. The study comprised an inquiry and a clinical examination evaluation the status of oral hygiene. The greatest values of the fuchsin index determining the oral hygiene were found in children brushing teeth without instructions concerning correct brushing.
